I recently upgraded to windows 7, and my iwin game "family feud" will not allow me to use the right shift key. this wouldnt normally be that big of an issue, but you need to use the right shift key to "buzz in" and there is no option to change the buzz in key... my right shift key works fine in all other aspects of windows 7.
keyboard shift key ain't woking properly when i press and hold it first letter is normal and second and further ones are capitalized (e.g. fFFFFFFFFFF) the right shift is working properly. Since its laptop i cant change it
I'm using a laptop (Lenovo Ideapad y470) with Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit. I'm not sure how I came about this problem but here it is : Whenever I press the keys "x" or "c" on the physical keyboard , the "shift" key will act as if it's jammed . I.E pressing the letters will produce capital letters with the exception of "x" and "c" while pressing the numbers will produce the symbols instead. I've found a way to undo this effecT by pressing "shift" several times on the On-screen keyboard , but it will return every time I press the keys mentioned. I had turned off Sticky keys and filter keys but it doesn't make any difference. [This was typed with the onscreen keyboard.]
I was infected by a virus. It makes the shift key get repeatedly pressed over and over. This happened to me before and I solved it by scanning with MalwareBytes and AVG. When I went to scan with MalwareBytes it needed updating, so I let it. Unluckily for me MalwareBytes thought it would be kind and restart the computer without my consent. Now, due to the virus, I can't login to my account to do anything, even in safe mode.
A couple of days ago both shift keys stopped functioning correctly. The Caps Lock key still works. If I hold down the shift key, after about 5 seconds, it will ask if I want to active the sticky keys functionality, so I am assuming that the hardware is functioning correctly.
I've just moved over from a mac to a pc to play games. One of the things I am trying to do is bind abilities in my game to Shift-numpad keys. Unfortunately the computer already has these mapped to a large set of default functions such arrow keys and page up / page down and shift-5 does nothing at all. Is there anyway to unbind these default functions so that the shift-numpad does nothing but register as a key press? (I'm using a multi button mouse to register the numpad)
yesterday randomly two or three times when i hit shift and a number it brought me to the windows taskbar and opened up the application of the corresponding number in line. eg my second program on the taskbar is windows media, so whenever i hit shift 2 or control 2windows media comes on. the start menu also randomly comes up as i am typing.
The reason: I write a lot of code with use of such symbols as (){}",#$%$^$&<> and i have to use shift all the time.
The problem: After a while my hands feel some discomfort especially my tiny finger which i use to press shift.
So i was thinking if i can remap shift to space it could be a lot better. I know there is a lot of software that can do simple remap but then i have to press shift when i need to put a space. Doesn't make any sense.
What i am looking: I way to make work space button like this: If i just press down then immediately release space button it acts as usual space (ie. reacts on key up event)but if i hold it and press another keys it acts as a shift button.
I don't know why ,but the keyboard short cut to bypass the recycle bin and instead permanently delete files ,just won't work for me on these 50 thousand PNG pictures i have!Instead,up pops the "move them to the recycle bin" window!
The correct thing happens if i select fewer files,100s say, just not 50 thousand of them.
I have about a dozen Firefox tabs open on my taskbar at the bottom of the screen. Win7 64bit on Dell E6510. But some of them will shift position on the taskbar on their own. Happens all the time, and it's very aggravating because I'm needing to be able to hit them quickly and often and need to have them stay in the expected position. Can't afford the time to hunt around for them. For example [URL]will often move itself to the far right. Even BigCharts.com is doing this now. None of my searches on the web can answer how to stop this. It's easy to grab/drag a tab window for another application around on the taskbar, but within the single application of Firefox this doesn't work. Why/how are these windows shifting around? This never happens on my other laptop, a WinXP SP3 machine.
i have this problem on two different computers running Windows 7 7201 (a notebook running x64 and a netbook running x32). even though i am able to install a second keyboard layout, the option to switch languages with a keyboard shortcut is disabled by default. i can go through the options and enable the left alt+shift shortcut, but as soon as i press ok or apply the shortcut setting resets back to "none".
for the original administrator everything works normaly, but when i tried to set the standard account as administrator temporarily, i still could not make the keyboard shortcut setting to work.
one workaround that i found on the netbook was to delete the standard account, setup the keyboard options for the administrator account, and select the option to copy these settings to any new accounts. after creating a new standard user everything works as it should, but it would be too much work creating a new account for my notebook and setting up everything from the begining.
i also tried finding a way to change the shortcut setting directly from the registry but i can't find any information about it either.
i accidentaly shift deleted (thats permant delete fwiw) my photo folder (large folder tons of shots) - is there any way possible for me to recover it - desperation is setting in
After pressing shift+ctrl, it takes a few seconds before language actually switches. So I'm typing in Russian & English languages, and very often after I switch language and then start typing, first 1-2 symbols are in previous language. For example:>> Выключи ылype (I thought to type "skype", but language switched too slow and first two letters were typed in previous language)I've got windows server 2008 R2 with all updates applied.I have quite a powerfull PC: Core i5 650 and 8 GB of RAM, so this is not the source of problem
My computer has just been restored to its original factory settings and for some unknown reason, this is the first time I have used it since, i cannot use the shift key on either side of my keyboard. I have looked at the accessibility options and checked to see if the keyboard itself was having problems but it comes up as running properly.
I have a hdmi switcher from monoprice that I use to switch input between my pc and my ps3. I have a dell 2407 monitor.
I just recently upgraded to win 7 from vista, but I noticed something. when I switch to ps3 and back to pc via the switcher, my app windows get re-sized, as if the resolution changed and changed back.
For example, firefox and my AIM buddy list would shift to the left and get re-sized.
This didn't happen in vista, all my programs stayed in place.
Anyone know how to fix this? I have the monitor drivers installed.
There's a lag in windows when I hold and drag the mouse for selection rectangle, but only when I keep CTRL or ALT or SHIFT pressed along with the mouse button, there's a lag even with this simple rectangular marquee in windows, the movement gets frozen every 2-3 seconds. And when I hold and drag for rectangular marquee with mouse button only, there's no lag and it's smooth as it should be.
Same behavior in 3D softwares: lag when using mouse button + ctrl or alt or shift, and NO LAG when using mouse button only CTRL, SHIFT and ALT are the cause! But the problem now is how to fix that? I want to use the alt or shift or ctrl key along with the mouse in my 3D apps, it's so convenient and useful. I disabled tablet input service and it doesn't work.
When I hit the left shift key, I get /.V,, but when I hit the right shift key, I get pori.can't access any of the secondary keys when hitting the shift +, getcapitals, etc. I have downloaded 2 different registry repair software programs, and tried the Ease of Use function multiple times without success. I am submitting this problem on a different computer because I can't log onto the internet w/o "@".
I recently bought a new laptop and I installed Office 2007 on it (it had already been installed on other computers before). However, pressing Shift + Tab in Word doesn't decrease indent (It does so on PowerPoint). This does so on my other computers, and I assumed it was a default function in Word 2007. I tried to customize the keyboard shortcut for it, but Word wouldn't accept Tab as a suitable shortcut key (instead of registering Tab as part of the shortcut key combination, it performed the normal Tab function and went to the next gui object). Is there any way to fix this? I can live with it, since all I have to do is make a shortcut without Tab, or just simply click the respective buttons, but the Shift + Tab shortcut is ingrained in my memory and will be hard to unlearn, especially since any other computer I use with Word will use the default shortcut.
So - a problem that I came across in a co-workers Outlook 2003 today was that when they receive an email with 2 (or more) attachments they are unable to Ctrl or Shift select them, right click and send them to print. Now, I find this odd as this was a function available in office 2000 and is available in 2007 and 2010.
You know the button, it looks like a little star right? Well whenever I press it, not going to here, my whole computer gets the blue screen. I think I can press the eight button without shift, but not right now... Don't want to lose this text and open tabs if it does... SO what is the problem? Might just reinstall windows 7, even though I'll lose Dirt 3, ms word, and kaspersky antivirus, all which have to be bought again for a fresh install.
