I have a Dell Inspiron 1440 with windows vista. I was given the free upgrade to windows7. When I try to install windows 7 it says that my webcam is not compatible and wants to remove it from my system. Has anyone else had this problem or know of a way around it? The laptop is brand new and I don't want to mess it up.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1440 running windows 7. This computer was purchased new about a year and a half ago, and I have had no problems up until a couple days ago. I went to turn my laptop on the other morning and as usual the dell logo came up and loaded, then the windows symbol saying "starting windows"... then strangely a black screen with a cursor arrow... nothing more, no log in screen... just black nothingness... I have ran the diognostics and they all say "pass". I am able to access F2 & F12 but it will not boot in safe mode or with a command prompt.
Prior to migrating to Windows 7 it would be best to download and run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor.
The Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor will determine if your current computer configuration will be compatible with Windows 7, for further information as well as a link for download please go here:
Also, please note that when migrating from Windows XP to Windows 7 you will not have an "in place upgrade" option. You will however have the option to select "custom" install when prompted. The Windows 7 install process will then copy all of your data in "My Documents" over to a Windows.old folder within Windows 7 itself. All applications and documents stored in other locations will have to be reinstalled / transferred manually.

Are all Dell Laptops the same in this regard? I do a helluva lot of typing and just cannot seem to sort out this darn keyboard - cannot seem to find a way to dot my e's or put forward-/back slashes on e's and i's.
My HP had a feature whereby i could type "alt" followed by any three numbers, resulting in those characters.
Can anybody please assist or can i perhaps download directions to explain which buttons represent what?
I am only getting " limited" access to the wireless network at my university, meaning no access! I had no wireless adapter issues 20 min earlier. The only thing I did install was driverupdate, cause I was getting the blue screen only when I was connected to the wireless network at school and the code that came up on the blue screen said something wrong with the driver.I have tried s restore to te previous day, that didn't work! I uninstalled DriverUpdate, still doesn't work. I've tried clearing dns cashe at cmd, that didn't work.
