Jun 7, 2011I have a Dell Inspiron 1440 running windows 7. This computer was purchased new about a year and a half ago, and I have had no problems up until a couple days ago. I went to turn my laptop on the other morning and as usual the dell logo came up and loaded, then the windows symbol saying "starting windows"... then strangely a black screen with a cursor arrow... nothing more, no log in screen... just black nothingness... I have ran the diognostics and they all say "pass". I am able to access F2 & F12 but it will not boot in safe mode or with a command prompt.

Nov 27, 2009I have a Dell Inspiron 1440 with windows vista. I was given the free upgrade to windows7. When I try to install windows 7 it says that my webcam is not compatible and wants to remove it from my system. Has anyone else had this problem or know of a way around it? The laptop is brand new and I don't want to mess it up.

Prior to migrating to Windows 7 it would be best to download and run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor.

Also, please note that when migrating from Windows XP to Windows 7 you will not have an "in place upgrade" option. You will however have the option to select "custom" install when prompted. All applications and documents stored in other locations will have to be reinstalled / transferred manually.

Dell 1440 Inspiron Keyboard Issue
Dec 19, 2009Are all Dell Laptops the same in this regard? I do a helluva lot of typing and just cannot seem to sort out this darn keyboard - cannot seem to find a way to dot my e's or put forward-/back slashes on e's and i's.
My HP had a feature whereby i could type "alt" followed by any three numbers, resulting in those characters.
Can anybody please assist or can i perhaps download directions to explain which buttons represent what?

Oct 3, 2012Something is wrong with my fn key and F1-F12 keys? Suddenly it seems like my F1-F12 keys are using different keys. For example, when I press F1, I get a screen output switch thing.
