PCI Sound Card For Win 7

Sep 7, 2009

I installed Win 7 Build 7127 x64 on a friends older computer- everything was fine but the sound.

Anyone know of a cheap PCI sound card that would work with 7, easily?

FPS Drop Because Of Sound Card / Sound Card Drivers

Sep 19, 2009

I've recently upgraded my os to windows 7, and noticed a significant

fps drop in all games I've installed. The problem seems to come from the sound card.

I've disabled it in device manager and I gained a steady 15-20 more in most of the applications.

Any idea what to do? Is it a driver issue or something? I got an Athlon 64x2 4600+, Asus M2N mainboard,

2 gigs of ram, Gainward 8800GS video card, Sound Blaster Live 24bit soundcard.

Drivers are downloaded from creative.

Sound Card Drivers Show As Working But Still No Sound?

Mar 18, 2011

as stated in the subject, I am unable to hear any sound from my speakers since upgrading to the windows 7 64 bit. I followed the other post that I found on this but I still cannot hear any sound.I have a dell inspiron 531. HDAUDIOFUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0888&SUBSYS_1028020EI have installed the realtek drivers and they as working but I still get nothing but a slight hiss from my speakers. I have tried them on my laptop and they work fine.Does anybody know what might be causing this? I am half tempted to get a new sound card but I am reluctant as it says my existing one is working (it just seems to have forgotten to tell the speakers!)
If anybody knows a fix for this I really would be eternally grateful

Headphone Amplification And Better Sound Sans Sound Card

Oct 21, 2012

I've solved my gaming graphics issues, namely by choosing the parts I wanted rather than buying yet another "Media-Center"-style all-in-one unit that did everything, but not very well, I'm now in need of a solution to my present awful headphone sound quality. I have a generic Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio card that is not very good, sound-wise, and, because it doesn't even include an optical out plug, goes unused. I purchased a refurbished Turtle Beach headset w/DSS decoder, and, while it works as advertised, the headphones are terrible for music. I've replaced the TB Headset with a much better-sounding Pyle set, and will buy some "real" headphones as soon as I've determined that the source itself is sending out a good-sounding signal.I've seen pro and con arguments about sound cards, like the Xonar series that have headphone amplification included. My issue with that is I am more concerned with the graphics for games, and I've built this system with SLI (another gtx580) in mind, and I do not see enough room under or in between the dual GPUs for proper installation of such huge sound cards, though I'm glad to have my ignorance in this area demonstrated. The anti-Sound card group seems to be gravitating towards a separate headphone amplifier, and I"ve seen them from the $20 dollar model included free with another headset I purchased, to the $1800 tube amps. I think I would like to either go this route, or purchase a home stereo receiver that can output the PC sound, thus having both satisfactory amplification for low-volume music listening( or ear-bleeding levels, if desired) and the ability to power speakers elsewhere. I guess what I'm asking is for some entry-level priced PC headphone amplifiers to start off with. I see countless rating comments for the FiiO series, and while the prices are certainly attractive, the fact that they're so low-priced also makes me leery of their actual amplification abilities while staying neutral in tone.

Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Sound Card Compatibility

Jun 6, 2009

I just bought a new pc from Dell. I opted out of buying the SB sound card they had as an option and now I am sorta regretting that. I loaded RC 7100 as soon as I got the machine and after going through this forum I am sorta left with the impression that SB cards don't work with Win 7. Is that really the case?

I was looking at an "Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Sound Card" but if it will just cause me grief it's not worth it. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what I can get and not pull my hair out trying to get it to work? The main game I play sounds sorta mediocre with the on-board sound.

Per-application Sound Device / Sound Card Setting?

Jan 14, 2013

[window 7 ultimate]

normally i only have 1 sound card/sound device in sound settings when i use hdmi with my tv, i have 2 sound devices in there, and i can choose 1 one of them as default, and all applications i run will play sound on that default device, so i choose hdmi (my tv) as default, open chrome for my mom watch movies, sound play on my tv (hdmi), that's what i want and i open firefox, go to Internet, sound also play on my tv (hdmi), that's not what i want, i want it (firefox) to play sound on my pc, so my mom can watch movies on tv, and i can watch Internet on pc

is there a way to do this? a way to set per-application sound card/sound device setting? i know some programs like windows media player or vlc can let you choose sound card, but firefox, chrome do not. i tried indievolume and it did not work, even uninstalled, reinstalled but did not work, or is there any browser that let me choose sound card setting (like wmp and vlc, but these 2 are not browser)

and does anyone know if mac or windows 8 has this feature as built-in? if windows 8 does then i might upgrade

No Sound With Audigy 2 Sound Card

Oct 26, 2009

This is probably just a stop gap but I was finally able to get my old Creative Audigy 2 card to work with 5.1 surround by using Audigy 4 drivers for Windows 7. I haven't been able to adjust bass and treble yet but I've been too busy just enjoying the music to get around to looking for ways to make that happen. Music sounds better than it ever did in XP or Vista!

It may not be a complete fix but at least it'll get you some sound until they come up with driver for those of us with older sound cards. Be patient as it takes a while for the complete install!

Gaming Sound Card

I am looking for a good gaming sound card to replace XtremeGamer by Creative Labs. Since upgrading to this newer build of Windows 7 I can't get the driver to work and it never really worked right anyway. The beta driver or the Vista ones in compatibility mode. Daniel K people also said to try, they didn't work either. Always will freeze the computer and then I will have to go into Safe Mode and remove the driver to be able to boot again. So any ideas for a good card? What about the Razer Barracuda AC-1 Gaming Audio Card? Will it work with Windows 7?

Sound Card Woes

Jul 20, 2009

I'm having problems with the on-board sound-card on my Asus P5K Pro motherboard. I have had this mobo since christmas and has always worked with XP with out ever having any problems.

Last week i installed the RC and initially all seemed to go well. I downloaded the Realtek Vista drivers from the Asus website and installed with the "recommended configuration." This seemed to work properly and i happily continued on my way. A few days ago when i turned on my PC and whacked in a CD i realized there was no sound coming out of the speakers. Upon further inspection i realized there were no sounds coming out from the pc at all. I also realized that the Realtek GUI was no longer detecting the insertion of jacks into the socket.

My board has 5.1 audio outputs so i plugged the speakers into the other outputs to no avail. I did note however that the Realtek software did detect the insertion of a jack into these outputs but refused to spit anything out of them.

I decided to uninstall the driver and try to reinstall. Upon attempting this it repeatedly failed due to "not having the correct OS." When at last it did start to install it gave me a "realtek driver failed to install" screen. This scared me......

After a day of fiddling around i magically made it work and i was back where i started (not recognizing front jack, ignoring the output of others.) So i decided to put in a old PCI card i found in the rubbish bin It's a Creative labs CT4810 i think. I found some XP drivers and attempted an install. The drivers installed but when i attempted to use that driver for the so far unknown "multimedia audio device" i couldn't find it in the list of drivers. After reading further i started to think that the card wasn't PnP. *Shreek* Can PCI cards be non-PnP?

Anyway, i'm unsure now as to the origins of the error and am left audio-less. I'm starting to think it could be a hardware error due to the failure to detect the insertion of jacks and the recent movement (i moved my desk to vacuum behind it) of the PC. The cable to the speakers was also very taught. It is still under warranty (the mobo, not the system, i built the system) so i might take it back.

Any helpz plox?

PCI Sound Card For Win7

Sound Card Recommendation

How Can I Find What My Sound Card Is ?

Dec 27, 2009

I've tried Device Manager in Control Panel, but I'm only given a very generic name. (I just tried to open Device Manager again, but I can't for some reason... I'll edit this shortly.) I tried running dxdiag, and it claims it couldn't find a sound card.

I just installed Windows 7 Home Premium. I was previously using Windows Vista Ultimate.

I'm at home from school, and I didn't feel like bringing my speakers. So, sound would come from my sound card. I reformatted and installed Windows 7 with a headset plugged in, and I'm only able to hear sound through that.

I also hit system lag spikes when playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Sound, during these spikes, becomes a cackling noise. I think I need to update my drivers. If I take out the headset, sound becomes muted because it doesn't recognize my sound card or whatever.

I'm fairly certain I need the stickied Realtek HD drivers (I think I've seen the name before), but I want to confirm.

Ideas?

Sound Card Is In Use Problem

Nov 11, 2009

I bought a PC with Windows 7 Home Premium , and realTek sound card. Everything has been working well, including sound, until I tried using my USB headset.

On plugging in the headset, I right clicked on the taskbar settings , and disabled the RealTek soundcard, and made the Headset the default communications and audio device.

However, when I tried re-enabling the soundcard, and made it default, graphically, it shows that the sound card is in use , but no sound comes out of it. My speakers work well on another PC, and when I insert my USB headset and switch the settings, the headset works fine.

Anyone with ideas in what I should do?
