Computer Doesn't Even Turn On BIOS?
Jan 26, 2012my mothers laptop (HP-2133 *Large Battery*) just stopped working.There have happened a couple of things, so I'll tell it one by one:- My mother turned on (From hibernation) her laptop one day, and the screen was green.:My thoughts: I thought that it might be the graphics card that had some kind of error on start up, so I just turned it off and on again. Then it ran like it used to. A few hours later the laptop had these random freezes, which made "Force-shutdown" the only possible way of rebooting.:My thoughts: I thought that this was perhaps a virus, but I never got the chance to run our Anti-virus (Kaspersky Antivirus PRO)- Now (two days later), when she/I tries/try to turn on the laptop, nothing happens... The laptop powers on, but doesn't actually run the HDD, or even the motherboard for that matter (Doesn't run the BIOS).
:My thoughts: I noticed that the only light that's on, is the power-light, (The HDD doesn't even blink). I also noticed that the screen doesn't even turn on, but the fans actually run (Most likely because the laptop is powered on)So I can imagine that the motherboard is dead, and in these couple of days, it's shown me that this is it's last days to live.But before I rip it apart and save the value parts, and scrap the rest, I would like to ask you guys for your opinion..
Recognized In Bios But Doesn't Boot
Oct 8, 2012I've built an 128gb Samsung (830 Series) SSD into my Acer RL70 Nettop. It was empty and when I tried to boot the nettop there was only the message "ERROR: No boot disk has been detected or the disk has failed". Then I connected the SSD to another computer and installed windows on it and it worked on that PC. When I put it pack into the Nettop i got the same error again. In the Bios, it shows the SSD correctly.

Sep 16, 2012The first one is the BIOS boot up screen that usually leads me to Windows. A few months ago, this vanished. I don't know if it was due to a version of Windows 7 i installed or something but whenever I turned on the PC, the screen would appear blank for a few minutes then go straight to the Windows welcome screen. I thought it was weird, but I didn't see a problem since it went to Windows so I disregarded it, which looking back is kind of dumb but I didn't want to risk doing something to the computer in the process.So a few weeks ago I was trying to partition the hard drive so I can install the Windows 8 preview on it, rebooted the computer and...nothing. It wouldn't take me to Windows to there's clearly a problem with the hard drive. I could always get a new one, but there's still the problem of the vanishing BIOS screen.

May 18, 2012I forgot my windows password, so I created an Ophcrack ISI Image DVD. When I try this the bios shows my DVD drive in the list of bootable devices, and I select it, save changes, and exit bios, the computer then tries to boot from the hard drive (not the DVD drive selected) and obviously starts up asking for my windows password which I do not have. WHY won't the bios allow me to change the bootable drive to DVD?

Dec 7, 2011I have Windows 7 Ultimate installed on a Dell Optiplex GX620 P4 hyperthread, approx 6 years old. Bios is most current Phoenix ROM Bios Plus 1.10 A11. I have 2 sata drives and 2 IDE drives installed. Boot is from SATA 0. SATA drives 2&3 are not present. All is well with this part of the equation.I had been running a Seagate 250GB IDE drive (ST3250824A) as BIOS drive 4, master drive, jumper selected. I just installed a second 120gb Seagate IDE (ST3120026A) as a slave, BIOS drive 5. That was when things got interesting. When I rebooted BIOS took a long time to load, and then reported that neither IDE drive was present. I then did all the obvious things: Disconnected one drive at a time - BIOS would recognize the connected drive. Switched master & slave drive positions. Changed jumpering from master/slave to cable select. Installed a new ribbon cable. Checked that BIOS drive recognition was set to 'Auto' for both drives. Results are always the same: either drive is recognized when only one is connected but BIOS does not recognize them when both are installed. On boot I receive a warning that IDE Drives 4 & 5 are not present and have to press F1 to continue. When I enter Setup BIOS reports the drives as unknown drive type. When only one is connected BIOS accurately reports the drive model # & capacity.After going through all this,I decided to bring WIn 7 up and see what would happen. To my surprise, Windows 7 showed both drives and worked fine. Device Manager properly reported drive model & capacity. I have used the system in this configuration for several days and everything has worked fine.This is not a problem, per se, since other than slow booting and having to press F1 every time I boot to bypass the BIOS "error" notice the system works fine but I am curious if anyone else has had this problem, and if they found a solution. I have considered forcing a reinstall of the BIOS but since it isn't really broken I don't want to try to fix it and make things worse. I googled this problem before coming here and could not find anyone with an identical situation on any tech site. Can I be the only one who's ever had this happen?

Dec 10, 20113 year old Sahara Notebook 2gb Ram, Intel Core Duo T2250 Processor. 1.7 GHZ, ATI xpress 200M graphics card. Win 7 Ultimate 32bit Hasn't given me problems for the last few months, until recently.What happened. I was in school studying, shut down the laptop, took a 15 minute walk to my student residence. When I tried to start the laptop. It showed nothing on the screen, not even the BIOS screen. Thought it was a faulty screen, I connected it to another monitor and even a projector. Nothing still showed on them.
When I insert a Win 7 Installation disk in the DVD drive, I can here it humming but still no display. The fan too is working plus the power on and charging lights are working to?
Dual Monitors, HDMI Monitor Doesn't Display BIOS
Apr 16, 2012My old monitor has problems turning on, I can leave it on for 30hrs before it decides to display a picture, or I can manipulate it by unplugging the DVI cable from the back, but sometimes even that takes a few tries. It's off warranty and for reference it's a Samsung SyncMaster 226BW.So I bought a new monitor and I have it plugged in using HDMI, but a problem I get is that when both monitors are plugged in the HDMI has no display until it gets to Windows, so I cannot see the boot process of my PC, because my old monitor as explained above has problems turning on. Was a hindrance today when I was tinkering with my SSD and had to go to BIOS, and frankly I'd like to be able to see in case anything goes wrong, like a BSOD or Windows update etc.

Sep 17, 2012When i got home today didn't my computer work, my girlfriend has been the last one using it. So don't know how things were just before the shutdown or anything.when i turn on the computer i get to the screen where "touch bios" is and where i can see the options like Bios settings, boot menu, xpress recovery.but i cant press anything, and after about two seconds on that screen the PC shuts down again.The keyword lights up so there is a responds on it, but just doesn't work to press anything before it shuts down.I've got BSOD upto several times a day for a few months time.believe that my computer is affected by some virus or something is delaying my computer. might be an combination of several things.I got no external things hugged up to the stationeer computer right now.it is a windows 7 x64 machine.
usually when i get issues i can access advanced boot up or bios, but can neither in this case..I wonder if it might be a hardware issue.
Bios Clock Time Changes After Every Restart Even After Replacing Bios
Aug 23, 2011I've got an Acer Model As5742 Laptop with an i5 480M processor and 8 GB of good Ram. I'm running Win 7 Pro 64 Bit. It's only about 5 months old and this started about a month ago. I have no other problems. IE: Blue Screens or Lockups or anything, just the Bios clock changes to a random date and time after every restart. I replaced the Bios battery twice and it only effects the chore of having to reset the time in Windows every time I boot.
I'm going to send it to Acer to be repaired within a week or two, but maybe it's not a bad timing mechanism in the motherboard and one of you people have a correct solution to it. Which will save me the trouble of sending it in for a motherboard replacement.
I do have all the drivers and bios updates installed. Oh yes I've ran about 15 different virus Etc. Malware scans with several different products and they all come back clean. I ran System File Checker SFC /scannow from the command prompt several times that also comes back OK.

Feb 6, 2012I have a Toshiba Satellite, A305 S6905 with a New Install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.Bios was updated to latest 2.20 version. I put two new, matched 2 GB ram modules in it. It does not show but 2 GB installed even in the Bios. I checked both modules by putting each one seperately in the primary ram slot and both were showing up as good. I even put the old 2 GB and 1 GB modules I had before under Vista and it still only shows 2 GB installed.It only shows 2 GB installed and 1.87 useable..It boots OK and seems to run fairly smoothly but I have not put it to the test under some memory hog programs yet.

Try Not To Do A Bios Upgrade When Using Win 7
Apr 17, 2009Just thought I would mention this as it is the second machine I have bolloxed now due to doing a bios upgrade.
A while ago I did a bios upgrade on a desktop machine and after doing it got a BSOD and windows would not boot. Had to format and do a fresh install to get over it.
This time round I did a bios upgrade on my laptop so that I could put a T9500 processor into it and got the same problem.
Bit of a pig this one though as I have 3 weeks of non backed up emails I will lose amongst other things.
It seems that if you do a bios upgrade windows 7 see's it as a different machine and just errors out without trying to load. There seems to be nothing you can do to recover from it.
Only option I have it to install another oppperating system on it and then see if I can downgrade bios. See if that will work.
Just be aware of this as not something that will show to often as not to common to have to upgrade bios. Hope this helps someone.
Flashing The Bios
May 16, 2009i never flashed bios before and have recently noticed there is an update on the Acer web site. The bios mine is running on at the minute is R01-B3 and the new one is R01-B4.
Is it worth updating to the new one?
Will Win 7 take to it?
What will be the benefits of the newly released bios over the one I have?
How do I go about doing it and are there any safety precautions I could take so I can roll back incase I F it up?

Dec 30, 2010I have two SATA hard drives. I was poking around in the BIOS yesterday and noticed that they were setup IDE instead of AHCI. I am not sure what either does and did not want to change anything without asking. When I first got my PC, it had XP installed, so I am thinking that is why IDE is set. Do I need to change it to AHCI? I am not having any problems. Would it be of any great advantage to change it? I understand that after the OS is installed, it is a problem to switch to AHCI.

Jan 14, 2012I was updating with sp1 and some other updates and when it rebooted the 2nd time it got stuck on the motherboard logo so when I tried to boot with my Window7 disk "nothing" I can not boot into my BIOS so I guess I should go down and get another motherboard? May 20, 2012my computer when being booted up sits for about 30-45 seconds then goes to the welcome screen and turns on. My BIOS will not work. I need to change my primary graphics adapter and apparently need to do it in bios since its currently disabled. Does anyone know how to fix this? Ive tried pressing the keys to open it and it does nothing. When I force shut down my computer and you would receive the startup menu recommending safe mode etc my keyboard lights up and if I press enter it will bypass the 30 second count down before starting up my computer, but my monitor does not identify until the welcome screen and BIOS will not start.

Nov 25, 2012There are 2 options in the BIOS for my laptop fan:Silent and Normal.Right now, it is running under option 1 - "Silent".This may well be the reason why I don't hear any sound of the fan (unlike my other laptop that has a relatively noisy fan coming ON and OFF from time to time).Do I need to switch to "Normal" mode?Will there be any problem in the long run if I stay with the existing setting?The touchpad area and its vicinity are sometimes hot (not too much though) under the current setting.
