Nov 2, 2009I've been having problems with my sound card drivers ever since I upgraded to Windows 7 64 from Windows Vista 32. I must admit I messed up by not writing down what specific sound card is in this laptop (Dell Inspiron 1520) and I have not been able to find any drivers from Dell.com.
I do have a CD that originally came with my computer thats labeled "Creative Sound Blaster Audigy" so I was assuming thats the type of sound card I have? When I look in Device Manager all it says is "High Def. Audio Device". Additionally whenever I do try to install either the SigamaTel Audio drivers from Dell or the Audigy drivers from Creative they just say the device is not supported. So I'm at a loss as to what to do!
I noticed this problem when I couldn't use a microphone (which although old) that until the upgrade had worked perfectly. Now when I plug it in Windows Seven just says it's a "Line In". What in earth does this mean?
I'm not too knowledgeable about drivers but I wish to learn. I've noticed that there are a lot of great people on this forum helping each other out so if you guys could assist me in finding a solution I would really appreciate it. I would love to be able to talk to my buddies over Ventrillo again!

Nov 21, 2009i have a Dell 1520 that origanlly had Vista on it, it also has a D: partition that is a restore partiton of 10gigs (for Vista). i have upgraded to Windows 7 but that partiton is still there. my question is, is it poosible to create a Windows 7 restore partition to repace the Vista restore partition, and if so how? , or can i just reclaim that 10Gigs since i dont think i will be going back to Vista.

Dec 7, 2009i have a small issue with my Dell 1520 laptop and my netgear router, it seem that the laptop is either dropping or not finding my network, i can set the mac address an ip address in my router, and the laptop will find the address and will work, use it for few day without an issue, then when i turn it off and turn it on the next day it cannot find the network again. even when i right click on my network and tell it to connect it will not connect.
there are 2 wireless adapters on the laptop one is a intel pro wireless adapter 3945, and a broadcom 440x integrated controller. ( i am thinking there is conflict ) i can connect with no problem with a cable to the latop, both the intell and broadcom's addresses are in the router.

Nov 4, 2011I run win 7 sp1 on dell inspiron 1520 Its dvd-writer was damaged, so i bought an external Transcend dvd-writer and its working properly but when i insert a bootable cd in it and want to boot the windows from it, the windows does not recognize it and boots normally from internal hard driver as usuall. I am sure the cd is bootable and have tested it in other systems.

Dec 15, 2011i have a Dell Vostro 1520 and im running Windows 7 with a 32bit. It is only 2 years only. It started about a month ago. I was on my laptop viewing and deleting some unwanted photos i had. A few minutes later i realized that i deleted a photo that i wanted. So i went to the recycling bin and restored that photo. When i went back to my photos and went into the album, it said something like i do no have permission to access this folder. Please press continue to get full permission. I clicked continue and i got the access i should have. Now i tried many more random folders and the same thing happened. Also when i came out of the folders, the folders had a big pad lock sign on the front of it. After that i shut down the laptop and went to turn it back on. The laptop will power on like normal. I can press f12 for the boot options. which i have already tried many times. I also tried it in safe mode and what-not, but still nothing. I can hear the fan and stuff spinning up like normal. I have also put and CD into the CD ROM and that spins up fine. So after the Dell logo on the screen, it goes black and stays that way with the cursor. You can move the cursor around no problem. I should also add that the battery light is and has been flashing for a good wile. Its flashing orange and blue. I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the battery. Because my laptop will not charge with the AC adapter in it for many months now. It will only stay powered on with the AC adapter plugged in. One more thing. The LED lights over the buttons. None of the are flashing, besides one, on the far left. And i cant find out anywhere what this LED light stands for.

The first time it searched for restore points of which there are none because the machine has Rollback Rx installed instead. It then restarted with no change. May 29, 2011I've just recently installed one of my favorite old games, Starcaft. after playing it for about a week I've found out that there is a 100 milisecond delay on any action you make when using Windows 7. Sep 15, 2011I'm been working on this problem for over a day now and now I'm stumped.I've read dozens of threads and blogs all over the internet concerning this "operating system not found" problem but none of their problems seem to be the problem that I have.My computer just got extremely laggy and froze into a BSOD (blue screen of death) before turning off and showing me the "operating system not found" message during every boot.Usually when this problem showed up, it turned out to be a hard drive failure, but when I checked my bios, it listed my hard drive as 320gb. (So I'm guessing this has nothing or little to do with my hard drive.)
Here are the things I have tried: Safe modesThe "Launch Startup Repair" (ends up with at start up background and doesn't progress any further)The "Windows Memory Diagnostic""Last Known Good configuration"I've transfered the windows 7 .iso to a bootable usb and started up the laptop it got to the Install Now window and when I press that, the window closes and it shows "setup starting" and just stays like that.The only part that seems to be working like it's supposed to is the quick start/splashtop browser option that doesn't startup anything. (It only opens a browser for internet use and no other programs).I'm guessing the next step should be to open up my laptop and see if any of the cables are loose.ut after that I don't know what else I could do.
Edit- I have just checked and now the operating system not found message doesn't show up. when I start up with regular settings, it just gets to a blue screen and restarts.

Here is the strange thing...if I change the boot order in the BIOS and have CDROM first and choose not to boot off of it Windows 7 loads fine. If I put HARDDISK first then I get the missing operating system message. I have tried running CHKDSK, BOOTREC and the plain old Windows repair util. None of them have worked.

Dec 8, 2010My computer fell a couple days ago, and I had to get a new hard drive. nfortunately, my mother let my uncle who is NOT a professional install a "new" hard drive, which was actually his old one and came with Linux and not Windows. It worked fine but I wanted Windows, so he did something and installed Windows 7 from a flash drive. And it was great. Until this afternoon, when I accidentally changed the BIOS order and now I'm getting an "operating system not found" message...
