Dec 18, 2009Ever since I got this new PC with Windows 7 two weeks ago, I've had problems when typing text in applications, web forums, etc. I'll be merrily typing along and somehow a random combination of keys I hit causes some unintended action, such as the opening of a new window, switching focus to another open application, opening a different application, or activating some feature I don't want. Does Windows 7 and/or typical apps have tons of keyboard macros or shortcuts on by default, and how can I disable them?
All I'm doing is typing normal text, I swear I'm not hitting the Windows key or some combination of ALT_CTRL_X or anything like that. Maybe it's this crummy USB keyboard, is it possible that it interprets rapid keystrokes as the wrong thing?

Dec 8, 2012I was randomly playing a game, then all of a sudden my keyboard started typing weirdly. Eg. when i type a, e appears and when i type e, L appears. I went on control panel and the keyboard was still set to "English (United States) - US" and the language was still set to English. I tried pressing Ctrl + Shift and that didn't help either, no matter how many times i pressed it.

Oct 1, 2010When in word documents or typing in browsers, my laptop keyboard is perfectly fine, but when I'm in a game or certain other programs (like typing in Pandora, the internet radio) my keyboard (all the numbers, letters, and punctuation keys), when hit, will display numbers. No matter what key is pressed the first press gives me a "1," the next a "2," and so forth until "0" which is when it goes back to "1." I can't play anything and have to copy paste into Pandora's typing field.
Oddly, when I hit CTRL-V to paste it still registers. CTRL-random number would not paste, so something is (I think) changing my letters into numbers after the letter registers. I tried to do all the Num-lock and scroll-lock stuff but it didn't work. AVG Free's scheduled scan turned up nothing. I'm currently scanning with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Spybot S&D. Unhackme says there is no Trojan on my computer. I temporarily fixed the problem previously with a system restore, but it did not last.
Typing / Using Keyboard Briefly Disables Touchpad
Mar 8, 2012I just got a new laptop (Lenovo G770) and am busy configuring Windows on it. I am running into an annoying issue with my input devices. Whenever I type or do anything with my keyboard, it disables my touchpad for about half a second. Since I am an avid user of keyboard shortcuts, this is highly annoying and is messing with my productivity. I can't figure out how to turn it off--when I search for answers I just see lots of threads from people having the opposite problem, who want to disable their touch pad while typing. I currently have the Synaptic driver installed controlling my touch pad, and I can't see any options in its settings to disable this "feature".

In outlook 2003 I have some contacts which I added manually to address book so there should be an address book of some sort.

I should have imported them into Outlook before I made the "Easy File Transfer" to the new Win 7 machine, but didn't know I needed to do that. Several years ago I had imported the files into Outlook, although that data did transfer it is now way out-of-date and full of duplicates.The up-to-date data is still in my old machine and also in an external hard drive backup. I have isolated the Outlook Express personal folders into .dbx format and the addresses into .wab format.Is there a way this can be reformatted into Outlook? Or is there some other way? I would probably also need to delete what is already in Outlook first, or I would have many more duplicates.

Dec 25, 2011I am trying to move one pst file from one laptop which has Outlook 2010 32 bit to another laptop which has Outlook 2010 64 bit installed, steps taken 1) Copied the pst file from the User/AppData/Microsoft/Outlook folder to usb. 2) Pasted the file from usb into User/Documents folder. 3) Tried to open the file in Outlook and I get the error that Outlook encountered errors while opening the file. Now how is that possible when the file is working perfectly in one laptop but when I copy and paste it into another it gets corrupted? Is it due to 32 bit to 64 bit outlook? I tried to repair it using scanpst and it brought back few mails?

May 13, 2011I do not have the new laptop on, it is an expensive paper weight at the moment. None of my XP software works. I loaded MS XP Mode, I was able to load Office 2000, neither Outlook or outlook express work and I dispise MS Mail and all web based mail. None of my CAD programs worked in XP mode. Note: Acer does not have the hardware support. I removed MS XP Mode. Loaded VMware Player with XP Pro,loaded all my programs, copied my old HDD to new files in virtual machine. Setup Office 2000 Outlook and outlook express work perfect as does all office 2000. Cad programs work (or so I thought) I wasted 3 hours designing a generator room in one of my cad programs and all was well till I tried to create a new file on the virtual drive and was unable to. Tried to save my drawing to any file, was not allowed.
Spent the rest of the day re-drawing the generator room on old laptop. Tried all of the things on setting up networking the drives and folders, was still unable to create new file folders or save any new cad files. There is nothing wrong with this old laptop, it is just 6 years old and found a great deal on the Acer. Tried to load XP on a new HDD, that failed (somewhat) after loading and looking at the properties, many drivers were not working. It seems all MFG's are looking to MS to develop their drivers.What else can I try to get XP Mode to work like XPI can not afford to upgrade all my programs and with that, none of my old files would be usable.I use several cad programs daily at the same time as I work on several projects at the same time, plus I do all my own quotes and PO's and send to vendors, plus receive in everything. I have to be able to create new files and save everything I do where I want toThis is also the first time I have used a new OS so soon. I usually give it a few years.I went from 95 2nd Ed to XP all was smooth. Stayed away from ME and Vista like the plague

Dec 27, 2011whatever i try to do on my outlook that has to do with .PST file management results in a crash where outlook quitsif i go to control panel > mail settings > data files 2 of the files that are in use (& work) do not show up, one of them the default mail delivery .PST. in these two, trying to access the advanced properties gives an error:The operation failed. An object could not be found.now - general googling tells me that recreating the profile could perhaps fix this - but i would love to avoid that as there's no manageable UI to set up the email accounts and there's many in use.event log on trying to open a pre-existing .PST that's not in the current profile:

Archived Outlook Files Will Not Open On Outlook 2010?
Nov 28, 2011I have a new Dell Inspiron 14Z running windows 7 pro 64bit and i'm using Microsoft office 2010. I'm trying to retrieve archived emails that i backed up on an external hard drive from a previous computer, the files are .pst which is an outlook format but i keep on getting an error message saying the file is not an Outlook data file (.pst). i dont have any other way to retrieve these emails since they were deleted from the server and its about 1.5 years of work emails. Not sure what to do? should i move the files from the external driver to a different location on the computer and open them, or are they corrupted and need to be fixed?
