View 2 Replies View Relatedi bought my acer machine a little before the time period of the whole " Free upgrade to windows 7 gimmick" and bought 4 new retail version of ultimate for my home computers. 3 of them i put together my self and windows 7 installed with no problems. however on my acer machine i have done a clean install reformatted the drive and installed win7 i get through the whole setup including the part where you name the computer put in the home group password then when it restarts the last time to boot into win7 it gets stuck at the "verifying DMI pool Data" and nothing happens after that.
Things i have tried that didnt fix the problem
1. Enable "Reset Configuration Data" in bios
2. disable internal and external cpu cache
im thinking that acer some how locked the bios to only run windows vista? is that possible?
I just unpacked a new PC here at work and begun setting it up. I neglected to set a password for the default Administrator account and proceeded with the setup. Once I was at the desktop I connected the computer to the domain. At that point I logged off, switched over to my account on the domain. I started installing the programs which the employee required to do her job but because of the heightened security in Windows 7 I was not able to run any files as administrator. When I did try it said the Administrator account was disabled. I logged off my account and tried to log back into the Admin account and sure enough it's disabled.I've done searches in this forum and found similar problems but not quite like the one I am facing in that I never created a second account. So the only account that exists on this PC is the default administrator account which is locked out. I tried booting into safe mode and it still said the account was disabled. How can I resolve this issue?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have problems deleting files and folders which were created for temporary purposes. Usually folders with a temporary picture collection, which I have created just to get it zipped and mailed. Since I use Picasa (which is usually open), there are systems files which are created automatically and stay locked for quite some time, even when all the pictures were erased. Is there any quick and simple way to delete locked files in Windows 7?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've set up a secondary account on my Windows 7 machine and I need to find out how to disable the switch user thing. In Windows XP, I could hit winflag+L and switch user as I would instantly be taken to the user list.In Windows 7, for some reason they had to complicate everything. When I hit winflag+L it just displays a picture of my account and a "Switch User" button, which for me serves no purpose what so ever.Is there any way I can regain Windows XP's user switch functionality in Windows 7, where winflag+L takes me directly to the user list on the login screen?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was waking up one morning to get a quiz done before my Computer Science class. I like to think I'm pretty proficient. But when my computer was going really slow, and eventually locked up, I was forced to do a hard shutdown. Unfortunately, when I went to load it up, it loaded the BIOS, and then it goes to load Windows and poof. Starting windows pops up, but the windows icon never pops up. After about 5-10 minutes, my computer will restart.
Alright, so the first general action is to boot into Safe Mode, but this doesn't work either. I try to boot it up and the greyish screen with "Loading Windows Files." at the top and "Please Wait..." at the bottom. It stops there. Nothing loads up, it just stops. So, I hard reset it again, and THIS time, it says " Startup Repair. " So, I think to myself, this should fix the problem. I load up the startup repair. Loading Windows Files works, then it looks like its loading up and then BAM!
Black screen with a white cursor. SO! I have read up on this error quite a bit, but unfortunately, most of them happen before log in. They say to Ctr+Alt+Del into task manager. I don't have that option because the ctrl alt del doesn't work. So, I break down and try and load up the recovery console from my USB drive that I have on boot. All that does is mimic trying to do startup repair.

I have recently updated my hdd with a clean windows 7 install, but had the old one on a secondary hard disk as a back up. I now need to delete these files to save space on my data drive, but am unable to delete the system and windows files as they are owned by TrustedInstaller.
I discovered how to take ownership of these directories, but now the UAC is telling me that I need permission from myself to delete the files which I own!
Is there anyway to get round this without shipping out my data and doing a format, which I don't want to do as I always seem to miss something important..
When I was setting up my computer for the first time, I misspelled my user name. When I go to My Computer > Local Disk [C:] > Users, I am unable to change the name of my User file.
I have corrected how the user name appears when logging in, via User Accounts, but this "source" seems un-editable. It appears in several places, when I install new programs etc. and I know that there must be a way to fix this.
How can I change the name of the User file folder?
I basically had 3 accounts on my computer, one being "Administrator" (w Admin rights), one "test" (Standard User rights) and one more "User" that is the one I use most frequently (with Admin rights). When I last used it last Friday the User account was still present and all my programs were working fine.
However, when I came back to office today, I found that the User account was missing from the welcome screen, and only the "Administrator" and "test" account were there. Somehow, I could not login to the "Administrator" account. When I logged into the "test" account, all the program shortcuts were blank (Firefox, Adobe Reader Etc) and only IE and the default windows programs would work. I suspected that there might be a virus, but I couldn't install anything because I did not have the admin privileges.
My question is:
1. How do I get back into my admin account?
2. is there any way to install anti-virus programs (by going around the admin account) to solve this issue?
I'm basically stuck with a standard user account and I can't do anything with it. I tried using System Restore on the Standard account, but when I click "Open System Restore" nothing happens.
someone tried to open my system without knowing my password. but the sytem was locked. i cant access the system. It will open after 2 to 3 hour.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Compaq Presario CQ56 64-Bit (Windows 7 Home Premium) laptop that I bought before the summer, today a Windows Update has given me an Acer display update published on the 28/12/2011. I thought because I had my vga cable plugged into the TV Windows Update may have become confused but despite checking for updates again it still appears there as optional.
AMD/ATI is recognized by Windows and Windows Update and there had already been a display driver update not so long ago, so I cannnot understand why I'm receiving an update for the wrong machine?
When i turn the computer on i get the screen : setup is starting service. Install Windows. The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install windows, click ok to restart the computer, and then restart the installation. I have contacted acer they tried to help with the ALT and F12. Nothing I have tried works.. They told me to order the recovery discs for $20.00. I did , and they dont work either... I contacted them back, and now they say to send it back to them and for $199.00 plus shipping, they will repair the computer..I do not have the money for that..I have the the system disc, the 3 recovery disc and the language disc , that I just ordered from Acer for $20.00.

View 6 Replies View RelatedSo I am helping a friend with her Live mail (Hotmail). I dont use it so you will have to forgive me. She forgot her password and it locked her out of the account. She has tried the passwords that she has written down and none of them work. We tried the forgot your password link and had it sent to an email of hers that no longer exists. Then tried to send it to her trusted PC but there is constantly an error code for some reason. Then I tried having it sent to another email address (mine) but I have to verify her Identity. the questions it asks are such as the last subjects sent, last addresses sent to, CC info, Xbox tag, she doesnt have Xbox, CC info on there, nor remembers last addresses sent to other than mine and one other one nor one last subject entry. When I tried sending it off the first time. Microsoft pushed it back saying "there is not enough information to verify identification" then I tried it a second time and it went through but it failed to send me her temporary password or anything. Is there a way I can get into her mail for her or a password cracker or something that I can help her get back into her email. She has been locked out for about 3 weeks now.
