Issue: Fresh Win7 Install; Cannot Run ANY Programs
I downloaded Windows 7 from MSDNAA from my school and burned it to a blank DVD (4.90GB I believe is the capacity). Everything seemed to work fine and the burn didn't seem corrupted even when I burned it at full speed, so please keep this in mind for the following issue.
After I successfully installed Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit on my system, I ran into an issue. Certain programs will not open or execute at all, whether it be a setup file or even Internet Explorer 8. Windows Media Player opens sometimes, but bugs out too every now and then. This is hindering me because since this is a fresh install, that means I cannot begin to install drivers such as the latest Catalyst drivers for my HD 3870.
Even if I open it as Administrator, it does nothing but show the usual "Processing" mouse animation spinning symbol and after a while, nothing shows up. I checked the task manager and I see it is still running, but since I don't see anything, I have to kill the process. Again, this happens with more than 50% of the Application files/Programs that I have tried and this is a fresh install of Windows 7.
I have tried to re-install Windows 7 again to no avail.
One weird error message I got was when I tried to open the sample "Wildlife in HD" video just to test it out: "Server Execution Failed".
I don't know what else to try and right now I am using my laptop with Windows XP to use this forum since I can't even open my browser on my desktop. Is there a way to solve this problem? Sorry for my first lengthy post, but I wanted to provide as much detail as possible.
And I think my specs should show below since I filled that part out....does it?

Keeping Old Programs With Fresh Windows Install
I have all of my new PC parts in transit and have a copy of Windows 7 ready to be installed when I get it. Well in my current computer I have 3 internal HDD's. 1 for Windows and misc programs, 1 for Steam game installs and 1 for non steam game installs. Well Im wondering if I will be able to keep the software installed on the 2 gaming HDD's and just do a Windows clean install on the Windows HDD. Any thoughts? Im leaning towards a resounding NO! But Im hoping for a YES!

The Ribbon Interface Will Be In ALL Programs That Run On Win7
It's called the Scenic Ribbon and you can already see it in Paint, Wordpad and Movie Maker. The Ribbon originated in Office 2007 and has been improved even more in Office 2010. Untill now it has only been a part of Office however starting with Windows 7 the Ribbon will be a part of the Operating System. That means any programmer will be able to add the ribbon to his program instead of the current menu bar. Microsoft envisions a future where all programs running on Windows will have a ribbon instead of the menu bar.

Can't Install Programs From Run DL Option In 7077
Not sure if anyone's reported this yet, but I did a clean install of 7077 on my backup computer and anytime I start an application download and select "run" from the download menu, it downloads the program but will not start it, I have to go back and save the file, and run the .exe from there. Anyone else run into this and found a fix?

Some Programs Won't Run/install, Explorer Slow, Ect.
It was all fine until yesterday. I copied over a game from my laptop the night before (I just installed 7 on this computer recently, was copying over stuff from my laptop) and also finished installing World of Warcraft and not long after I turned off the computer. The next day I switched it on and didn't notice anything at first but some programs wouldn't run (Winamp would have a blank space where the music list normally is). I tried installing some virtual drive programs such as magic disc and power iso which I usually use for isos I rip onto the computer (I lost some discs before so I've been doing that recently) but the magic disc programs wouldn't run properly and power iso wouldn't progress during its installation. I tried installing some anti spyware like AVG and Avast (Spyware doctor detected 300 odd tracking cookies that appeared in the past week I installed, way more than it did with my vista laptop) but they would just either not respond (and then pop up with a message saying it took a while and wouldn't respond) or just not even progress when it was installing (on the part where it begins putting down files) Explorer itself is slow and takes a while to load when on "My computer" and usually wouldn't display USB drives. Once it did but it didn't actually open it up when I clicked on it and prevented the window from responding. I have used task manager to close all these down when they wouldn't. When I tried switching off my computer it just stayed on the logging off/shutting down screen. I tried leaving it overnight, expecting it to finally switch off but it only ende up going into sleep mode (and popped up with the log in screen when I waked it up) I have switched the computer off and on a few times but its still the same. I also got the disc I used to install and tried to repair it but it wouldn't boot from the disc when I switched on the PC and when I opened it up and ran the setup file, it came up with the usual "are you sure you want to run this" dialog and didn't do anything.

How To Do Fresh Install On New HDD ?
My work machine's HDD is on its way out. It currently has XP Pro x86 on it. I got a fresh new HDD and upgrade version of Win7 x64 Pro. I booted from the Win7 x64 disc, it went through its whole install thing on the new HDD, and then when it got to the product key, it wouldn't accept the one that came in the box. I read on the web that upgrade versions must have XP or Vista already installed for it to work. But, the 7 documentation says I have to do a Custom install if I'm upgrading from XP. A custom installation deletes whatever is on the partition, I think. So how can it work when upgrading from XP? I have actually gone back and installed XP on the new HDD (that had its own share of problems, couldn't even get the internet connection working), and now trying to do a custom installation of 7 again. When it gets to the product key section, should I put in my original XP product key? Or will the 7 product key work this time?

Fresh Install With An Upgrade Disk
Is it possible to do a fresh installation from a Windows 7 Professional Upgrade disk? I pre-ordered it, not thinking that I would be upgrading from a Windows 7 Ultimate RC. I really want to be able to start fresh and stuff. Is this possible in anyway? I do have a recovery disc from HP, but I *really* don't want all of their crapware on my computer. Using the recovery is the worst possible scenario in this situation.

Install Of Windows 7 As Fresh Or Upgrade ?
I am thinking of giving Windows 7 beta a try on my work laptop and was wondering how a upgrade would work for me rather then doing a clean install. I hate to have to reload everything I have on my laptop. Has MS made it so doing a actual upgrade is not so bad anymore?

Did A Fresh Install Of 7 On My Sony Vaio - Drivers?
After doing a fresh install of Windows 7 Enterprise on my Sony Vaio things are going well. I visited the Sony Vaio esupport site and it has recommended all sorts of drivers for my particular laptop. 2 questions... 1. What is the equivalent of Windows 7 Enterprise for driver purposes? 7 Ultimate or 7 Professional? 2. Do I really need the Vaio drivers if nothing appears to be wrong?

Hard Drive Failure After Fresh Install
I have just bought a brand new hard drive due to my last ones controller failed. Western Digital Caviar Black 500gb So the problem, Did a fresh install of win 7 (Build 7229) two nights ago, all installed perfectly, next day (yesterday) went to boot up pc and had the dos error message - Disk boot failure, please insert system disk and press enter. My first impression was it may have been an install failure, so i formatted the hard drive and reinstalled. shutdown the PC and rebooted up and i had the same error message, now after this, i got my failed hard drive out and after a lot of faffing around, BIOS found it and it gave me the same error message. Can anyone tell me what the problem might be. I have tried Windows startup repair, did not fix. BIOS settings are First boot device is Hard drive second boot device is CD-ROM (I have even swapped these around to boot from windows 7 and it just starts the setup procedure of installing windows drivers) I have even set boot order of HDDs so my main windows HDD is up top. Anyone got any clues.

Oem Install Fresh Sata Drive
I am attempting to install a Windows 7 OEM x64 onto an older machine I have. MB is a Foxconn NF4UK8AA-8EKRS, CPU is AMD Athlon 64 x2, 4200+ 2.25 GHz, RAM 1GB. I installed a new OEM 500GB SATA hard drive unformatted. Current OS is Windows XP Home SP2, I deleted SP3 since it was giving me some problems with auto login. My DVD drive will not read the Windows 7 installation disk, similar to another post the drive just flashes, never spools up. It will read other CDs and DVDs. I initialized the hard drive but have not partitioned or formatted the new SATA hard drive which is where I want to install the new OS. While the BIOS recognizes the drive, its not listed on Computer tree. I have copied the Windows 7 OEM DVD contents onto a Folder that I created on a Toshiba External USB drive. Only had a 2GB USB Flash Drive so thought I would use the external drive and select the setup.exe in the Windows 7 files I copied into a folder without formatting a complete 250GB ext USB drive. Question, can I partition and format the new SATA drive using the Windows XP Home Edition with an NTSF format and will this be recognized by Windows 7? Question, can I install Windows 7 from the Toshiba Ext USB drive's folder onto the newly formatted SATA drive? Or does Windows 7 require a different formatting setup? The BIOS and MB won't recognize a DVD drive it only allows a boot from CD. I removed the CD and DVD master/slave parallel cable and only installed the DVD as the master, but Windows 7 DVD just blinks and never spins the drive. If I can get the new OS installed I'll remove my two older 40GB PATA hard drives and add more RAM. This machine is for my wife's use since it was in the garage gathering dust. Thought I would revive it and set up a wireless home group between my machine and her's. I added an all in one printer/copier/scanner in addition to the HP Photosmart D7460 I have so we can share files, printers and Internet connection. I have been building my own machines since about 1990. Building a machine is fun (takes maybe 2hrs) but all the software kicks my butt. Also I went to the OEM System Builder License at Microsoft OEM Partner Center that is the most confusing arrangement I have ever seen. I'm just a home builder having fun, not a business, must I buy the full version to get this installed?

Fresh Install With Win 7 Upgrade Disk
I have been asked if you can do a CLEAN INSTALL of Windows 7 when upgrading from Vista on a newly purchased laptop. I think this is mainly to get rid of the manufactures bloatware. This is with the upgrade program that is out now. I said no, but I want to double check. This media will be meant for upgrade only and needs to be able to detect the Vista OS to install. The custom install selection shouldn't be selectable. Am I correct?HP dv9535nr Triple Boot: XP Pro SP3, Vista Ultimate X64, Windows 7 RC1 X64

Proper Way To Upgrade? Fresh Install Or Live?
I just got Windows 7 7232 x64 VHD to iso. I'm currently running 7201 x64 and wondering the best practices for a seamless upgrade? is it best to fresh install (my preference) but since this is a beta not sure if its worth it. If I go with an inline upgrade whats the best way to make sure drivers and installed apps are not "hosed" or cause problems?

Stuck On Boot Logo After Fresh Install
I wanted to dual boot Win 7 64 with my vista 32 but after the install completes and the computer reboots it hangs on the Win 7 boot logo and then just stays there until i turn off the power button. It's kinda like the problem when you have a USB plugged in and the boot logo hangs except there's nothing plugged into the comp. Reinstalled again the the same result. When I look at the win 7 drive from vista it looks like all the files are all there but it just keeps hanging on that logo =(. What should I do? Also when i try and boot into safemode it hangs on "Classpnp.sys" I've looked elsewhere and seen that people solved this problem by updating bios but I have the latest version of mine =( I've tried EVERY boot option in F8 to no avail.

Fresh Install Directly From Vista X64 To A New Drive
I was a bit lazy to install Windows 7 x64 beta (7000) in a "default" way (and i didn't want to upgrade Vista too). So i choose to mount the iso file in a virtual drive in Vista x64 and install it directly on a new partition. After the final reboot, i was amazed to see that all my hardware except one (SM bus), were recognized and working. For this last driver, i just had to connect to windows update and it was allright.Installing windows 7 beta this way seems to me the fastest and the easiest way (for people who have already vista installed and some space left). The Pc wich i'm testing windows seven with is quite new. And Vista was installed with the latest drivers availlable, shure that helped. Anyway, if you have trouble installing seven with DVD, problems with raid drivers, or anything that block the install of Seven, you should try to install it from another Os (Vista or XP). So at least you can try this awesome beta.Â

RC 7100 Fresh Install Dell M1330 Mouse / Sleep
2 Issues with a fresh install of Windows 7 RC 7100 x64 on a Dell XPS M1330. Issue 1 Every other reboot my mouse stops responding. I need to do another restart with the keyboard and then it functions again. Then if I do another restart it stops working. Its like clockwork. Issue 2 Sleep mode crashes. It goes in to sleep mode fine. if I come back a little bit later and open the lid it doesn't turn on. I push the button and it boots up and tells me it shutdown unexpectedly and has safe mode options. These are the same 2 issues I had with an earlier version of windows 7 6 months ago. They still haven't fixed this kind of basic stuff?

Doesn't Prompt To Delete Partitions, Do Fresh Install
I'm trying to install Windows 7 x64 on a machine that currently has the Windows 7 RC on it. When I boot from the DVD, it immediately goes into "Windows is loading files...", which it does for 30 minutes or so and then reboots, at which point I get a message that says that Windows cannot start because files have changed. Normally when I boot from the DVD, the first thing it asks me is whether I want to create/delete partitions, do a fresh install or an upgrade, etc. I'm not getting any of that. Anyone know what's wrong?

Windows should let me run a program from any country, not just one at a time.

Sound Drivers = Only Able To Run Programs As Admin
When I install the drivers for my HTO Striker 7.1 and restart to complete driver installation, suddenly, I can only run anything if I right click and Run as Administrator.. not even Firefox. Its annoying to have to get the gray User Access Control screen everytime I want to do something, as well as having to right click and left click just to start a program. HTO Striker 7.1 drivers on their site are listed as being good for Windows 7 x64. What could be happening here? Has anyone had this problem?
