I have a new win 7 notebook with a i7 2630 processor 2.0GH and it seems to run well. Out of curiosity I went to control panel/performance and checked my performance assessment and it reads as following on a scale of 1.0 to 7.I was hoping the boost mode would help the HD run a little faster but I see virus scans still take about the same time. What would you folks do if you wanted this machine to boot faster and run virus scans much faster? (if possible) I would only need about 250G in mass storage.
I decided to open a thread to show what people are getting with there current memory settings, what improvements are shown with various timing tweaks, speed settings ect.
to access this you MUST have UAC turned off, OR choose 'Run as administrator'. open the command prompt window first, either by opening 'Run' from the start menu and typing 'cmd' --this will only work if UAC is deactivated--, or go to accessories in your start menu locate 'Command Prompt' right click, select 'Run as administrator'.
once opened simply type:
winsat mem
Note: it will not matter what the command path is set to.
i am currently facing issues with my DDR3 and being stuck at around 8500mb/s any suggestions why feel free. Dual channel and tri channel play a huge factor in this benchmark, so keep that in mind before comparing with others
so here is my winsat score:
with the current timings:
post em up and let other people know what basic timings and MHz your set at (DDR2 950MHz 4/4/4/12 ect) and channel configuration (dual/tri channel) your using.
thanks to smarteyeball for pointing out the admin trick with cmd.exe!
I installed new hardware and the system prompts me to run a reassessment . When I do it stops part way through with the above captioned message. I cleared the settings and tried again with the same result. 12/07 Home Build, Q6600 w/Zalman, Striker Extreme, 1910 BIOS, 2 x EVGA 768MB 8800GTX in SLI, 2 x 4GB Mushkin Enhanced Silverline DDR2 800, 2 x 150 GB WD Raptors in Raid 0 (OS & Programs), 1 TB Hitachi Desk Star (Storage), Sony BD Burner, card reader, Cooler Master Stacker 830 w/LED fans and case lights, 1000w power supply, Windows 7 64 bit, Altec Lansing 2.1 40w, Samsung Sync Master 27" HD monitor.
I just finished building a new computer last week. It runs very well, and it scored a 7.8 out of 7.9 overall on the Windows User Experience Rating. The problem I am having is that I had to reinstall windows (I messed up the first installation) and now when I try to run the assessment again it always crashes on "Direct3D 10 Texture Load Assessment."
I have all the latest drivers and DirectX 11 installed. Any idea why it would do this when it did not on my previous Windows installation?
My i7 990X is currently at 4.65 GHz. I was using MSI afterburner to overclock my GPU, but I confirmed that it is not the problem. Full computer specs in my profile.
I'm using window 7, my system is running slow. I've did all those which I know to increase the performance of system but that was not effective. So I want to know; is there any tool to increase my pc performance?
As you know there are hundreds of PC booster and performance software 'speeding' up your pc, fixing registry issues, optimizing boot time etc etc. eg. CCleaner, System Mechanic, Which ones are really worth having and what makes them any better than the tools you already have at your disposal from Windows7 itself?
I can't use the Resource monitor. This is build 7048. Is this a known bug? I can't find anything about it. Do any of you have this problem? It just keeps coming back until I close Resource monitor. Thanks for any info.
I mean the Resource Monitor. Also....it worked at first....I assume it's just a bug because it's a beta.
I know there is probably a simple answer out there, however RAM is cheap right now and I though I would go ahead and future proof my system or whatever. My WEI with 4 GB RAM was 6.6 and after upgrading to 8 GB of Crucial RAM it was 6.6. I knew the difference from 4 to 8 would be negligible but I thought I would see a better score. The system does see 8 GB RAM by the way.
i have a problems about my pc, sometimes the cpu usage goes to 90% without opening many things, my ram performance is always around 75%. also when i play any gameit become lag for a few seconds and weird sound came out.
why did M$ wreck the performance monitor? i can't get to view the monitor because it's stuck in a directory (c:perflogs) that i don't have permission to access. what a crock.
unless someone can point out something i'm doing wrong. but i added counters, only to see that it's output was something in that perflogs directory.
and bill, what kinda drugs were you taking when you made windows 7? because never in my whole entire life did i ever have so many directories on my computer that i can't access. what on God's green earth were you THINKing?
My CPU/RAM gadget shows the cpu at about 60%. The task manager performance graph agrees. I look at the processes in task manager, and order by CPU usage, and the top two or three processes are using 2 or 3%! What gives? Why doesn't the processes window show the processes that are using this 60%of cpu? How do I find out what is using the cpu that much?
when i try and do a windows performance index in windows 7 ultimate it says it cannot rate my computer because it cant do a video playback performance test. I have a toshiba sattelite laptop.
I have a HP Pavillion Ddv6-3230us laptop. 2.4 GHz 4 GB ram, Windows 7 Home Edition.I bought it brand new in January and this morning I got a start up error after reopening the lid (it wasnt hibernating or turned off). I ran the start up recovery utility and it couldn't fix it. I did a sys restore, still couldn't fix it. I followed HP's system recovery tools and ran diagnostic tests and finally decided to perform a back-up and reformat back to factory settings. After the new install, I updated everything like java, installed AVG. When I try to talk on windows live messenger (my friend has their webcam on, not me) and try to stream a tv show or watch a video, everything starts crackling and freezing. I have gotten the error High CPU Performance from audiodg.exe. I searched for an answer and turned off all enhancements under playback devices.
My computer performance is low. Do you know how to increase your computer performance? I think my computer performance is very low. The song or voice and action are not perfect when I watch movies.
Alright so for the past few days my girlfriend's computer has been having a very quick command-prompt-looking pop-up within 10 minutes of starting up. We weren't able to catch a glimpse of what it said until today, as the pop up is literally less than a second long.We recorded her screen and were able to pause at the time of the pop up, discovering what the pop up is.
My parents have a Windows 7 (64bit) pc which is performing really slowly. It's got a AMD Athlon II X2 215 2.70 ghz processor and 2GB of RAM.Just logging in takes an age and then launching something simple like a browser can take a good few minutes for anything to happen.I've put the CPU gadget on my desktop for a quick guide and although my CPU is about 20%, my ram is often 85%+.I've done the basic servicing processes, like defaging but they've made little difference.I've looked on the Crucial.co.uk website for Ram upgrades and have seen that I can upgrade to 8GB of RAM for less than £40.Would this be a worthwhile investment or is there something else causing the system to be so slow.I myself am a Mac user, so I'm not familiar with ways to improve performance on a PC, but I don't want my parents to struggle with the PC in the way they currently are, so if I can speed things up for them I'd like to be able to.
I keep getting a windows pop up everynow and then when im gaming saying that windows has noticed my performance is really low would I like to switch to a basic etc. etc. Im not sure how this is even possible with my setup. Ive checked my temps on both my GPU/CPU and they are all within normal range and this last time I got it while I was gaming both my GPU/CPU were under half load.
I just bought the retail dvd of Halo 2 and I'm trying to install it on Windows 7.The install pops up a message box that says Quote: "This computer's performance information has not been created. You should create performance information on this computer before running Halo 2 for Windows Vista.Click Start, Control Panel, System and Maintenance, and Performance Information and Tools." and the installation stops when I hit 'Run' anyway. But I have done a performance test to create a score of 5.9. I have a quad core i7 with 12 gig of ram and a 2gig Nvidia graphics card. It seems Halo 2 just doesn't recognise the performance information.I've searched but I haven't found anyone else who has had this problem.I can't believe Microsoft seems to have locked this game into Vista-specific requirements - that violates the basic future-proofing principles that Microsoft has been espousing to programmers for years.
I've just bought a netbook with windows 7 starter edition its a HP mini 110-3500 which i was assured by the sales assistant has a good processor (intel Atom N550) anyway it seems to be quite slow respinding to commands i.e. opening up explorer etc. My first question is do all netbooks perform like this running windows starter and would upgrading the OS help performance?
its about 6 months i m using the same window, but now it starts really slow and over all performance of my system is also down. i have dell n5110 i5 with 4gb ram, and please i dnt want to reinstall window, also i am using selective startup.
im playing Cities XL right now , and something very annoying is going on .( by the way happened in a couple of other games too ) but .. whenever im starting a new game , everything goes smooth as it should , but after a couple of neighbourhoods im building (lots of objects to render) , it becomes impossible to play ! fps drops to something like 2019 .and i seen the benchmarks for this game a year ago , the best performance was on gtx 480 ! with 40 fps Min ! the weirdest thing is , that when im exiting the game , my gpu fan works as in idle mode( i can hear the difference , in BF3 it's god damn loud as Jet ) , and the gpu mhz usage is really low , almost as when im just browsing my PC .
Take look at all of it Intel i5 2500K Motherboard PSU 8gb RAM,Grand total: $264.99I don't have a lot of money to spend on this. I think its a ,bargain on the price considering the CPU,The i5 2500K is $70 off at microcenter.
I wanted to hop on the SSD band wagon a few months ago so I grabbed a 64GB SSD down my local store.I'm pleased with the fast boot times and applications like Photoshop (which always used to take 10-15 seconds to open), which now open within a second.I have been having an annoying issue though since the purchase which has got me considering going back to my old drive. I have formatted and reinstalled windows and experienced the issue basically within the first few hours of the format, so i assume its the drive. Below are a few things I experience...
*I will be navigating directories and exploring files when all of a sudden the hour glass will appear and make me wait for 5-10 seconds before allowing me to resume doing what I was doing. *This happens in all windows applications like firefox (while browsing webpages) or within photoshop while navigating in application menus. *sometimes the application or windows menu will hang for a couple of seconds.. sometimes 30 seconds ! *I never experience any actual application crashes.. just 'hanging' *If I ctrl+alt+del .. nothing happens UNTIL the computer decides it wants to 'wake up'. *If I continue to do things while the computer is hanging, when it 'wakes up'.. it will 'fast forward' many of the actions I did while it was hanging (if that makes sense). It does this Intermittently.. sometimes I have a good hour.. sometimes it can be an issue for a few hours etc.
I have a Toshiba Satellite A300M00 Notebook and got it about a year ago with Vista Home Premium. I purchased the new Windows 7 Home Premium (Full) and did a clean instal.
Now they issues is this. When i was running windows vista my WEI (windows Experience Index) was at an overall 5.0 (knowing that vista's max is 5.9, my laptop was pretty powerful and ran games and other things beautifully).
So knowing that Windows 7 is supposed to increase computer performance, the opposite has actually happened on my system (both by looking at the WEI which is now 3.8 and the performance itself with games in particular being much slower).
I was wondering why this may be the case, i have installed all driver related to the graphics card which is an ATI Mobility Radeon HD3650 512MB Ram. My CUP is 2.5Ghz Dual core, i have 4GB Ram and a 400GB Harddrive.
The windows experience index is as follows. Processor went from about 5.4 to 3.8, RAM went from 5.0 to 4.0, Graphics stayed about the same at 5.2, gaming performance went from 5.5 to 6.1 and HDD went from about 5.2 to 4.9.
The lowest of those being the Processor is the subscore and not only is this rating system different but the performance is actually worse with games, Far Cry 2 i use to be able to run 1,024 x 768 with 2XAA at Very High Graphics nicely (just as an example).
I have searched through some of the threads and there seems to be an issue with the realtek drivers, but I am wondering if anyone has any other ideas.
I am currently running build 7237 and everything runs great except if I copy something across my network. I have attached a picture that shows my network utilization spiking up to almost 99% when just coping files from one computer to the other. This only happens under 7, not on xp or vista.
I have tried playing around with adapter settings, etc but nothing seems to help. My motherboard is a Gigabyte with the built in 8168/8111 nic card. Connecting to a Linksys WRT54GL router. I have checked gigabytes site and they don't have any new drivers for 7 yet.
After having rather high hopes for SSD Performance...I'm disappointed.I'm glad I got a test unit, because if I would've shelled out the cabbage for this, I'd be a little PO'd.I have an 8300 Quad Core 2.5 Intel with 4GB of RAM running Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit.Instead of trying to clone the old drive, I did what I thought was right and did a fresh install.I loaded up MSE, Office 2010 and all Windows Updates.Did a couple of tweaks (made sure defrag was off, DMA mode on instead of PIO, disabled indexing)I have all the latest chipset, mobo, video, etc., drivers.Yes, it boots into Windows to the desktop faster. No doubt.Yes, it opens up windows faster and programs SOMETIMES as well. But it multitasks terrible. If I'm download, installing, etc., anything...and try to move program to program, it's slow. To the point I think it's freezing up.I've read a few of the tweaks here...and I'm missing something I think. It's an Imation 2.5" M series 64GB drive. I know it's not the Vertex 2...but it has pretty decent specs behind it. Not the best, but it should do everything my SATA platter drive does better...period.It doesn't.What should I be looking for? (It shipped with the latest firmware, and trim is turned on...not like that matters since I only installed Win7Pro fresh a few hours ago...)
when i press the "rate this computer" button, there's nothing going on! there's no process! but the thing is that i can use my aero theme! my rating was 5.9 before! and now its not working should i post some kinda report or file for u guyz to trace the error?
