View 1 Replies View RelatedI've recently found an old laptop in the back of my closet. It runs Windows '95 currently, and has some start-up problems (but isn't very slow once I get it to work). I'm not an expert at computers, but I can say that it's an IBM ThinkPad built around 1999, as it is the lowest year available in the time setup. I want to update it to Windows 7 so I could maybe give it purpose again. Currently, it tries to use dial-up connection, has no USB ports, but does have a CD drive. It came with an external floppy disc drive. I've searched around on Google for a day or two to see if this is even possible. From what I've seen, it's possible to jump from Windows 95 to Windows 7, but I don't know if anything about the computer itself can change that (e.g. the space on its hard drive, its lack of modern ports, its lack of wi-fi connection). I have a full copy of Windows 7 on the CD, and I can put a CD in the laptop itself, so I see no problem there. My major fear is that I'll try to put in the disc and it automatically erases everything on my hard drive or kill the computer because it's too much strain on an old system.

system information
IBM thinkpad T42,
processor :1.7G
ram: 1.2G
Whenever my machine sleeps/hibernates on its own, for battery or whatever, the display doesn't come back upon resume. The O/S comes up and I can actually ctl-alt-del and hear myself log in, but I cannot see anything.
I think I am having an ATI Mobility FireGL V5200 driver issues on Windows 7, but I've not seen any updated driver. Also I tried uninstalling the driving and running a less than ideal default windows display driver which works fine, but eventually gets overwritten by windows update with the latest and faulty driver.
I have to power down and potentially lose work to get the display back. If i self sleep/hibernate the machine, it comes back fine. It's only when after some time on battery or if its sleeps due to inactivity that this happens.
I see a bunch of Linux/Ubuntu wikis on workarounds but nothing for Win 7 so far.
wondering if anyone could help me solve this problem. When starting computer everything works fine, the windows logo loads, I get the welcome word on the screen and just when the screen should turn into desktop all I get i black screen with a cursor. I can access the Task Manager through CTRL+Alt+Del.restart or shut down the computer. I tried setting it to an earlier date, but no difference. I tried the system repair - found no problems. So do not know what to do with it. It does load in safe mode. This has happened yesterday after I have attached hdmi cable to it, which I have done many times previously without any problems, do not know if this could have any connection to the problem.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running Windows 7 32 bit and I just noticed that all my drivers for the USB controllers, Audio/Sound devices and the Networking internet (Broadcom Netxtreme Drivers) have all died. They indicate that a Code 39 is the problem. I tried to load some of the drivers but it wouldn't allow them to install. I did a last known configuration attempt, no results. Did a system restore and it gave me an error message saying it didn't restore properly. I am trying to get the drivers online, burn them to a disk and load them. I have no internet access on that PC and the USB ports obviously don't work. I can get drivers on this PC online. Some I can't find. I did the uninstall driver, disable, all the usual for this problem. I am stumped. Any recovery attempts produce nil results. Thanks to Microsoft, I have no installation disc to do a new install or a backup image.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm wondering if anyone has successfully overclocked the ThinkPad T400 running the hybrid ATI Mobility Radeon 3470HD with Windows 7 x64.
I don't need any speculation, I've done a lot of reading and a lot of testing and nothing works properly.
I have an IBM Lenovo Thinkpad T61. I have changed the BIOS boot order with the ATAPI DVD first. I hear the DVD spin up but I never get the black screen with the question to boot from the CD. The computer then boots up to Vista. I have Windows 7 commercial bought 3 computer use. I am using the 32 bit CD. I have changed the boot order numerous times and no different. I saw a post that referenced a Maid drive
or something like that and not sure if that may be the problem.
Yesterday when I install Windows 7 on my friend PC I realized it has Realtek audio chipset, and though the drivers for this audio chipset were installed, still the Windows has no audio. The issue was caused because the built-in Realtek audio drivers in Windows 7 were not compatible with the audio chipset of the computer which was causing problem. The problem was that windows has older version of realtek drivers installed. After googling I found the latest version of realtek drivers.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSame as with the graphics drivers, I am having problems with the audio driver too. It has AC 97 2.3 Compliant Audio. Complete specs here Gateway Support - MX7525 Notebook Specifications I tried with the drivers from Realtek (Vista/Windows 7 (32/64 bits) Driver only (ZIP file)) Realtek The driver installed to completion, but it didn't work. Still showed a question mark in Device Manager and a red cross in the speaker icon in taskbar.. Followed salaadin19's method from here ZV6000 Audio x64 solved on the above driver. Couldn't figure out the appropriate inf file to edit (it has a zillion inf files), so uninstalled it. Followed his advice from here ZV6000 Audio x64 solved and downloaded the AC 97 driver from HP's website. Installed it as it is. It also installed to completion but showed the same question mark in device manager and a red cross in the speaker icon in taskbar. I then edited the inf according to his advice and now the question mark is gone in device manager and the red cross in speaker icon has disappeared in taskbar. Now comes the funny part. As in a successful driver installation, I can see all the audio devices on double clicking the speaker icon in taskbar. I can play any audio file. The equalizer sort of bars dance up & down in the speaker icon in taskbar as it should be when some audio is output, but I don't hear anything from the speakers. Tried maximizing the volume
