View 2 Replies View RelatedI have recently noticed the MSN homepage will override at random any other website I am viewing. This is very annoying if I happen to be filling a form out, or buying something online. I must have sent at least 5 or 6 emails to MSN but have been totally ignored so far. In fact whilst typing this it has already returned to homepage and I had to toggle back to continue writing! I am using a Dell Inspiron PC with pre-loaded windows 7 and ie9. This has only started happening in the last month or so and I haven't installed any new software to cause this.

View 4 Replies View RelatedFor days now, I've been looking to solve an issue I'm having regarding the permission settings. For whatever reason I simply cannot move a specific dll file, I then get the following message : "you require permissions from Everyone to make changes to this file" ==> it says "make changes" although all I want to do is copy and paste the dll file elsewhere...
So far, I've tried running the takeownership program, I've ran Registry Booster (who knows?), of course my user account settings are on "never notify me" AND YET I just can't copy/paste this dll file. I've got all the latest Win7 (64-bit) updates, AVG 9 AV+firewall (which I even turned off), I'm running an AMD Phenom II x4 3.00 Ghz, 4,00 GB RAM...and that's about it I guess.
I am attempting to setup Homegroup for first time on new computer, I was asked to set a password. The first pw was only 7 letters. It was rejected as requiring 8 letters. View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently suffered a trojan virus attach and ultimately have changed my password on my email server.I have tried to reset it to the new password in Windows mail multiple times. It keeps reverting to the old password as the saved password, and I continually have to retype in the new password. I tried resetting the password to nothing, and rebooting, and the old password comes back again. There must be a preference file or an ini file that I can edit. Can I do that without loosing my address book, etc.?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've always thought of networking as one of the black arts.
4 PCs - One Vista, 2 Windows 7 Home Premium, 1 Windows 7 Ultimate. All see each other. All have appropriate folders shared.
Try accessing A from B and I get "Enter Network Password (to connect to B)". I never set one up to start with, so why is it asking me for it. How do I access/change something I never set?
Try accessing B from A - I see the PC, and the folders I want but trying to access them results in "You do not have permissionto access folder names Contact your network administrator - who he? Obviously me but I don't know what the answer is!
Trying similar things with the other two PCs in the mix results in various permutations of the same problem.
I have tried all the various links suggested through Networking and Help, but most of the actions seem to be boxes to click to make the PCs try to sort themselves out. When it fails I can't find a manual way of trying to sort it out.
Any suitable tutorials that may help? Couldn't see any.

Why does Microsoft have to make things so hard? Why can't they simply have a single user option that eliminates all passwords and the complicated director structure that results?
At present I have my WIN 7 set to Boot up without a Password. I would now like to change that siuation back to a "Password Required" Boot.
I have tried going into User Accounts >Change Passwords where I get the three boxes "Current Password", "Change Password" and "Confirm New Password" all blank as expected.
Its what happens next that has me puzzled. I tried leaving the "Current Password" blank , entered a new Password into the "Change Password" box and re-entered this into the last Box .
I now get the message " The password you typed is incorrect. Please re-type your new Password"

View 4 Replies View RelatedI followed an online tutorial to hide my admin account by changing my registry so my mom couldn't get in. I kept myself out also. I tried doing a lot of stuff to retrieve it, but nothing would work because the only account I have left is a guest account, therefore, no admin permissions. One thing I think I can still do, though, is a system restoration point, but somehow, my previous restoration point was deleted. What if, and I'm going out on a limb here, I saved a restoration point off of my friends computer onto a flashdrive and used that for my computer? We have the exact same OS (Windows 7 Premium 64bit). I plan on doing that, then doing a complete system restore back to the factory settings.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am running a dual-boot setup of Windows 7 Ultimate, one x64 and the other x86 (the 32-bit one is there mostly for when I face compatibility issues, since my system has 4GB of RAM and it came pre-installed with the 64-bit version). My primary partition runs the x64 version, which is my main OS, but I am facing a really annoying glitch with my user name at the welcome screen. In the 32 bit boot, the welcome screen loads and my account picture is shown maximized and the password box is already highlighted, so all I need to do is enter the password and I am good to log in. However, the 64 bit boot loads with my account picture minimized (as if there was another account available), and I have to click on it or press the Space bar to get it to show me the password box so I can log in. This wouldn't bother me normally, but I just recently did a clean install of both boot configs and it has only been since then that this has been a problem. Previously, my 64-bit welcome screen would load normally and I wouldn't have to select the account manually.
I have spent countless hours online trying to find a solution to this problem, and I have still not been able to do so. The only difference between the two configurations is that I connected to my local HomeGroup with the 64-bit OS, and I have since left it and disabled the associated services, but I have not been able to restore the default login screen. I can't remember if this issue existed before I joined this HomeGroup or not, so I don't even want to restore my computer that far back in case that wasn't the problem.
