Computer Freezes And Dosent Start Programe
Jan 12, 2012My computer has been slower then I ever thought possible. After logging in, the computer will act as fast as it normally does. for about 5 seconds. Then, even after a single click, if it doesn't actually start a program, my computer freezes for 1-30 seconds, and then doesn't even do what I wanted it to do. The only other thing that's unusual is that it doesn't seem to be working as hard as it normally was after I got a new graphics card.

Nov 7, 2009Alright ladies and gentleman. I've decided to make a tutorial for getting the latest desktop drivers for NVIDIA laptop models to work well
for you. Here's how to proceed. This is for x86. x64 is slightly more difficult due to driver signing enforcement.
You can try to permanently disable this "feature" of Windows 7 x64 by searching Google. Please do not ask me how as I do not use x64 and
don't know. But there is a way. If you can't find it, for x64, you will have to use f8 or similar key to start the machine each time.
1) Download the latest desktop driver for Windows 7 and the card that is closest to yours from NVIDIA's website.
2) Extract the installer to C:NVIDIA - Close installer after extraction. It is not needed now any longer.
3) Find NV_DISP.inf and open it in notepad.
4) Look at the models of cards listed. Choose to edit one that is closest to yours.
5) Open device manager. Right click on standard vga or your video card and choose properties. Details tab. Change drop down to hardware ids. The second line down is of interest here.
6) In the .inf, scroll to the bottom [Strings] section. Again, look for most similar desktop model. Change the beginning part to match what you found in last step 5. For example:
NVIDIA_DEV.0421.01 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT"
and you have 8400M GT, change it to
NVIDIA_DEV.0426.01 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GT"
7) Now look up higher in the .inf and search for the number you edited. In this case, "0421" will lead you to this line:
%NVIDIA_DEV.0421.01% = Section010, PCIVEN_10DE&DEV_0421
8) In this line, edit like this and add your particular string from step 5:
%NVIDIA_DEV.0426.01% = Section010, PCIVEN_10DE&DEV_0426&SUBSYS_9016104D
Note the changes made between step 7 and this in red. Do similar for your particular hardware string.
9) Save the .inf (ctrl+s)
10) Right click on standard vga in device manager. Click update driver software. Browse my computer. Let me pick from a list. Have disk. Browse. Find the .inf you just edited and double click on it. Hit ok so it installs.
11) Reboot and rerun the .exe from step 1 until completion, to install the NVIDIA control panel.
Laptop Only Getting Wireless In View Of Router?
May 31, 2011use my laptop just fine down a 40 foot hall way and through a kitchen and 2 more rooms wirelessly(admitedly with a mediocre connection).
About 2 days ago it was giving me sporatic messages after a restart claiming my network settings did not match the ones saved on my laptop. The only change that was made was adding all but one roomates devices to an access list on the router (since the jerk wouldnt shut off bit torrent while people were working). Some other people were noticing some screwy occurances too but dont recall the symtoms so I just set it back to factory default and removed the access list. Everyone else seemed to be fine
Yesterday I cannot see the router on my laptop, I cannot see my neighbors (sporaticly I usually would see 1 bar pop up but now I can't find it at all) I can pick up my router wirelessly only when I have direct line of sight to the router and only 4/5 bars 0,o , so that rules out a lot of choices in its self since it sees it, just not very well.

Feb 22, 2011I have a Windows 7 Desktop mainly used as a server to store files and I have a Windows 7 Laptop used to mainly access and store files to the desktop. I do not use home groups because I find that work groups work better for what I am doing. I have researched hours and hours on forums and goggling troubleshooting tips but I can not find one thing that will fix my problem. So here it is.My laptop can see, view and access my desktop no problem. It shows up on the network and also sees the media devices on it. I can ping and view and alsp remote to desktop. So this is working as expected.My desktop however cannot see my laptop on the network. I can ping and view laptop by ip address though. I can also see the laptop as a media device. I just cannot see the laptop as a computer on the network.I have renamed work-group, reconfigured windows firewall, disabled windows firewall, and pretty much done everything basic and also some minor registry changed but converted back because problem did not fix.

It works when I select my printer. It then converts and saves the document into a PDF format. However, I get a "Your Free Trial Has Expired!" pop up prior to saving. My options are Activate (which I can't), Continue (which I do) and Buy Now (which I don't). My question is, how long can I continue bypassing this free trial expiration? I'm surprised I'm still allowed to convert to PDF for this long.
Anyway, I checked Programs and it appears I installed the deskPDF 2.5 Professional Edition back in June of 2011, so it's already been six months. Funny thing though, is I distinctly remember where I got the download from and that was at CNET Downloads. So that's what they give away? A trial edition for a paid upgraded version? I guess I don't mind the Buy Now pop up and if it lasts indefinitely, all the better. But aren't there other, more permanent alternatives that aren't trial editions of premium versions?
