How To 'activate' Run As Administrator Option
Feb 8, 2013
Running W'7 Homey Edition and I now with MS would have given us the option to choose whether or not to run every program etc. as Adminstrator or not.I am presently running a utilkity named "SweetFX Configurator" and it does not offer me the option to Open it as Administrator and there are several games that I woulld like to LINK up with it but when I get to that stage, it tells me it can't but I might try running SFX Config. as Administrator that might do it. I have now spent alot of time trying to figure out a simple way to do this - to NO avail.can someone here PLEASE turn me on to a nice simple way to open up this option.

I tried to enable/activate my administrator account by following these steps:
1. Open the Local Users and Groups manager.
2. In the left pane, click on the Users folder.
3. In the middle pane, right click on Administrator and click on Properties.
4. To Enable the Buit-in Administrator Account Uncheck the Account is disabled box.after creating enabling the administrator account I just rename it to my interested nickname and I set a password for that. But I still have to run some programs as "Run as Administrator" while I am in administrator account!. I can also see and access to all of stored file and folders (which I saved as Administrator in my document) when I log in as a standard user!I also enable / activate Hidden Administrator Account by this way:
1. Type "secpol.msc" in RUN dialog box or Startmenu search box, it'll open "Local Security Policy" window.
2. Goto "Local Policies -> Security Options".
3. Double-click on first option "Accounts: Administrator account status" and select "Enabled" and apply it.

A little background and info: I support a number of people who for one reason or another need to be able to do things a local admin can do like install programs and start services (or more accurately allow a program they're running to start a service). All users are in the local administrators group. The local admin account is enabled (and renamed) so that we as administrators have local access when the machine comes in for service. The machines are joined to a AD domain so that we can control a lot of the security via GPO. Everything worked fine in XP.
We are getting a few different "you do not have permission" errors. When the user tries to run OpenAFS (which starts a service) they get a "you do not have permission" error. There is no way around this error.
Also, when the users try to run Lotus Notes they get a "you do not have permission" error. When we go into compatibility mode and check the "run as administrator" (or just right click and "run as administrator) it works fine, but they have to click the elevated privileges. The program was installed while logged in as the user.
Again, all users are members of the local administrators group. When the local admin account logs in all these programs run fine. This behavior started in Vista and I chalked it up to "vista sucks". Windows 7 so far seems to be great, except that like in vista, members of the local administrators group are not really local administrators. How do I make them true local administrators?

I use an old XP app (JetToolbar - available at JetToolBar - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com) and do not want to change but I cant make it work on Windows 7. The application installs and starts up just fine but it is not possible to drag icons/programs/files to the toolbar - I just get the 'no entry' sign (Circle with line through)However, the application runs fine when logged on to the hidden Administrator account. If I set up the application in the hidden Admin account and then log on as a normal admin user and run it from that account, the icons I set up are just not visible. So what do I have to change in my normal user account (member of administrators) to make this drag and drop work?I have tried 'Run as administrator' but that made no difference. Ive read about dropping to 'Run as User' apps from 'Run as Admin' apps but that's not the problem (at least problem occurs when app is run as user or run as admin)

My laptop was purchased in 2010 and has Windows 7 Professional on it. I never had a problem until about 2 months ago when restored to factory settings, which doesn't require a Windows disc. About a month later I started getting messages all over about how Windows might not be genuine and I needed to activate it. The only option it gave me was to activate online, which when I did that I got an error.
So I reformatted AGAIN, hoping I wouldn't have the problem. Now it tells me I have 2 days until automatic activation, which I'm guessing isn't going to work because it didn't last time. When I click 'Activate Window Now', I get an error: 0x8007007B... Now right under that there is a product ID and I'm not sure if that's what I need to enter, or where to enter it.
I went to Microsoft's website and had it run its test to see if it says Windows is genuine, and it is, but I'm worried that I'm gonna run into the same problem as last time if I don't get this activated. I'd much rather figure out a way to do it online than over the phone.

I just replaced a hard drive on a Win7 machine, cloning the old drive to the new one, and it boots up fine, but tells me that Windows is no longer activated. I go through the process, but each time it tells me that the KMS server is unavailable. This machine was never in a "corporate" environment, so I don't know why it's doing this.
Is there a way (preferrably without reinstalling Windows!) that I can "force" the KMS stuff to go away, and activate directly with Microsoft?

Have a bunch of machines waiting for the pre-order upgrade disks coming Oct 22. Several posts have said that the RTM is the same installer that will be shipped as upgrade. Is it possible to do the upgrades from XP and Vista now without waiting for the activation, then input it when it arrives shortly?
I started to try this last night and wasn't prompted for any key after starting RTM disk from desktop, selecting custom and selecting partition to install. Is this because the Upgrade disks have special code required for reading the XP/Vista activation when asking for Windows 7 upgrade key?
Also if upgrade can be installed to a different partition, then it seems there is a way to get a completely clean install running the installer from the XP/Vista desktop on HDD and installing to another HDD? I am trying to figure out how to get the cleanest possible install here without overwriting if poss.

I am a student and I recently purchased Windows 7 Professional through the $30 student program. However, I have been running the beta and have heard that there are some issues regarding upgrading from Beta which is the Ultimate edition to a lesser edition (ie Pro). I have access to a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate... but I don't have a genuine key for it, however I do have a genuine windows 7 Pro key. Will the windows 7 Professional key activate windows 7 Ultimate?

What I want to do is convert a 32 bit Win Ult to 64 bit, transfer it to a new hard drive then install in a new build. It this possible using the same key used to activate the 32 bit install? I have Windows install DVDs for both which are Upgrade versions.I'm also confused on the order to do things. Convert first, if possible, then clone the drive. Clone the current drive, do the build then convert. Also I understand maybe sysprep would be needed too.I will have a new motherboard soon (hopefully) so I want to use my old one and CPU, graphics, and RAM to make a new PC for my wife. The only component that will be re-used is the DVD-RW and I may add a 2nd one which I don't need.

I was hoping for a little clarification as to which keys will activate which versions.I was going to install the E version although I live in the USA.I then came across a list of activation responses while digging around Windows 7 files. The one that caught my eye was:
"The activation server determined the specified product key has been blocked for this geographic location"
Will U.S. retail keys be able to activate E versions? Will OEM Certs be bound by geographical location? Or will the above restriction only be applied to Starter,Enterprise editions?

I installed a new hard drive today and performed a clean install on the new drive. I followed the tip under Tutorial that mentioned not to activate during the installation. I reinstalled the OS from the upgrade version of Win 7 Professional. Now the OS is installed, I attempted to activate my copy and received the message that it is an invalid key, can only be used for upgrading not for clean installation. I do have a valid key, entered the key from the Microsoft email received when I purchased the product.

I bought Windows 7 Upgrade when it came out, and upgraded an XP laptop. Worked fine. The disk got corrupted, though, and I had to do a complete, clean install on a re-formatted harddrive. So my Windows 7 upgrade doesn't think it's an upgrade. I tried to do the online activation -- didn't work. I tried to do a phone activation -- didn't work. Talked to MS customer service. They said I have to install/activate Xp or something first, then re-install Windows 7 upgrade. The problem is that this laptop didn't come with any disks, and I don't have any way to do that. So they said to "borrow" a copy of XP/Vista from someone, install that, then re-install Windows 7 upgrade. I just spent two full days installing Windows 7, updates, programs, data, etc. I sure hate to have to start all over again. Is there any other way to make this work?

I have a desktop (currently running Win 7 x64) and a laptop (currently running Ubuntu) but I'm having loads of problems with the 64bit version of windows on my desktop and I want to switch so Ubuntu is installed on the desktop and Windows 7 (32 bit) on my laptop.
I would only be using Windows on 1 PC but obviously it's already been activated on my desktop so would I have any problems activating it on my laptop? Is there a way to "deactivate" my desktop so I can activate it on the laptop or am I going to have to call Microsoft and hope they'll allow me to do this?
