File Transfers Through USB 3.0 Keep Disconnecting?
Nov 28, 2012
I have several USB 3.0 external hard drives and they all seem to exhibit this problem. First, I had a Western Digital MyPassport SE 1TB with USB 3.0. Transfers of 1GB or less are usually fine, but once it gets higher than that, the drive disconnects. It disconnects before the transfer is complete, usually disconnecting about 5 seconds after transfer begins. I thought something was wrong with the hard drive, so I had it RMAd. New drive came back and still didn't work. This year's Black Friday gave me a Western Digital Elements 1TB also with USB 3.0 capabilities.Same as before: files bigger than 1GB will not transfer. And yesterday I was graced with a Western Digital MyPassport 2TB but unfortunately the same problem occurs.
For all of these drives, I can transfer large files through USB 2.0 connections, no problem. I would be happy with this but... I was really looking forward to using my computer's USB 3.0 connection for the faster speeds. I've tried updating drivers for the port but I still have the problem. Does anyone have any suggestions? Here are links to the hard drives:Western Digital MyPassport SE 1TB (mine was new): Newegg.com - Refurbished: Western Digital My Passport Essential SE 1TB USB 3.0/USB 2.0 Black Portable Hard Drive WDBACX0010BBKWestern Digital MyPassport 2TB: Newegg.com - Western Digital My Passport 2TB USB 3.0/USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive WDBY8L0020BBK-NESNWestern Digital Elements SE 1 TB: Newegg.com - Western Digital Elements SE 1TB USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive WDBPCK0010BBK-NESN

is there anyway to limit file transfer speed on the local area network (not the wan port)? I have a tv tuner farm on my server wich I use to stream live tv to other computers on network. Problem is when I start a file transfer it maxs my connection leaving tv unwatchable. I am running windows 7 hp and have a wired gigabit network
Started experiencing playback lag on most movies that were stored on my E Drive which is a 500gb western digital, taking a movie off that harddrive and placing it on my C drive(150gb WDraptorx) sometimes would hang during the file transfer for 10 minutes then start up again. playback would be smooth if played from my external or main c drive , so i thought this could be my E drive was failing, so i tried a disk check over night but was only 10% when i got up and didn't seem to be moving at all.1week later i get a BSOD and freezes for 15 minutes so i did a hard reset, freezes on loading screen for windows and BSOD once again, once is started up in bios got windows is missing a certain file and prompted me to system restore and was freezing every couple of minutes but completed successfully. 2 hours later i get BSOD and BIOS reports the C drive as BAD. did a check disk for it and had a ton of unreadable sections but it completed, haven't been able to get back to windows since. ATM am trying start up repair but its already on 2 hours +.Should i take the main drive out and install windows on to my secondary or is it possible that they are both failing and should just purchase a new hard drive.
My old hard drive sounds like it is about to die. So I am wondering, once I install my new HD (format and install windows) will it be possible to hook up my old HD and transfer the files from it to the new HD? I am using Windows 7 and both drives would be SATA.
I am running two windows machines, 7x64 in a LAN using Groups. They both have static IP's. If I transfer a file from one machine to the other, the rate is over 100MB per second which is very good. Going the other way, it slows to only 16KB per second.PS: Firewalls and AV turned off.
My Linksys WRT120N router no longer works, so I bought a D-Link DIR-655, which has Gigabit ports.I have a PC with Win 7 64-bit with an Atheros L1 Gigabit Ethernet built in the motherboard, an ASUS P5B-VM SE. I also have 4 GB of RAM and internal hard disks connected via SATA 2. The PC is connected to the router via a Cat 5 cable with the label "Type CM24AWG UL E188L30".I also bought a Buffalo Linkstation Live LS-CHLV2 NAS with a 2 TB HD, and it's supposed to have a Gigabit port, too. The NAS is connected to the router via the Cat 5 cable included with the NAS.I checked the settings of the Atheros, and it uses "auto" for the media type (other choices range from 10Mbps Half Duplex to 1000Mbps Full Duplex. The maximum frame size is 1514 (the default), and the receive and transmit buffers at 256. There is no "jumbo frame" property in the configurations. The NAS only has frame size for the configuration, and it's currently set at 1518 (the default). Other options are 4102, 7422, and 9694 (all labeled as "jumbo" frame sizes).
I ran LAN Speed Test from the PC with a folder in the NAS as the destination, and the results for a 100-MB file are 34 Mbps for writing and 71 Mbps for reading.I experimented by setting the Atheros media type to 1000Mbps Full Duplex and the maximum frame size to 9694. I went to the NAS and set the frame size to the highest, 9694. The transfer speed became worse.I could not find any settings in the router except for MTU for Internet connections, but I think that's not used for network file transfers, so I did not change it (the default is 1500).I would like to know if the system and components I have are supposed to be enough to do file transfers between the NAS and the PC that are faster than the results I've gotten. Also, is it necessary to modify Ethernet configurations? Finally, I do not what else to do except to do the LAN Speed test using the ff. options:
1. connect the NAS directly to the PC
2. connect to another PC, probably a laptop, that has Gigabit ethernet and is connected to the router
3. buy two cables that are identified for Gigabit networks and to replace the ones connecting the PC and the NAS to the router
I have moved to Windows 7 Ultimate x64 for almost half a year, recently my hard drive was getting full and I decided to move some of the data to usb external hard drives. Both the externals I have are IDE hard drives and both are NTFS. I always use Quicksfv to make a CRC check file before I transfer the file and then run the CRC check after its been copied over to the external drive. I have used these externals in the past with Windows XP and had no problems.
However, on Windows 7 when transferring large files (usually over 1GB in size), I get corruption in the files. The corruption occurs randomly, if I recopy the files again it might be corruption free. This only occurs when copying files from internal to external, if I copy files from the external to my internal there's no corruption at all. I have tried changing the usb cables, power cable of the externals, using different usb ports but none of it helped. I scanned both externals with chkdsk and I used memtest+ for over 24hours and all the tests passed fine.
i have some issues with my wireless internet on my laptop when i play an online game, sometimes the internet disconnects I use a D-link router.I have tried to uncheck IPv6, and uncheck the 'Allow computer to turn off this device to save power'. I have an Intel R WiFi Link 5100 AGN and it is up to date There is a copy of my ipconfig :maybe there is something wrong with it?
So I've been having this issue for quite a while, but recently it has reached the point that I hardly have enough time to type in a web address or message a friend before my laptop loses Internet access. I have to first disconnect and reconnect again and hope that I can go a bit longer without losing connection again. It's quite random: I could go hours without disconnecting or I'll disconnect eight seconds after reconnecting. I'll explain more in detail below. To begin with: I know for a fact that it has to be an issue with the router since the laptop has no issues at a relative's house. The issue is wirelessly - if I connect the ethernet cable to the laptop, I stay connected. I've gone through all the settings in my router and could not find anything that may cause the issue.
My broadband connection randomly and frequently drops, particularly when composing Emails on Sky mail and messages on sites such as Facebook and other forums. Running the troubleshooter always fixes the problem and the messages I get are 1) A network cable is not plugged in and 2) the computer was manually disconnected from network profile. My router is a Sky Sagem, using Sky Fibre Broadband. It is connected to my PC wirelessly and so I do not understand why it complains that a network cable is not plugged in.
This is my first Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, and although it looks as though it was designed by an art student, you are totally fudged if you are left handed because Logitech decided, the entire world are right handed. It is a well designed keyboard and mouse that cups your hand like a well fitted glove, but it has a major flaw...
Or it's Windows 7? The problem I have is the keyboard keeps disconnecting all the time which is really annoying when you are typing and half the words are not there. Windows 7 has Bluetooth already set as standard, but I am now wondering if the problems I am getting is Logitech SetPoint clashing with Windows 7 Bluetooth...? Which could be causing the keyboard to disconnect?
I must be honest I love the keyboard and the mouse is just amazing.... But the disconnection of the Bluetooth is so irratating, you just feel like throwing in the towel and returning back to your wireless keyboard which kept a steady connection. It never stopped working, you never had to search for your keyboard via Bluetooth Central. Does anybody have an idea what is causing the dissconnection of the keyboard. The mouse is fine it's just the keyboard which drops the connection and you have to press the red button on the keyboard and reconnect again, it was fine to start off with, then it started disconnecting.
This one is really bugging me because I have checked everything, and I cannot fathom out what is causing the disconnection apart from, either is a MB issue or driver issue...?Whenever, I turn on my computer and Windows loads it will not load the USB External HDD which has been set to AUTO so it will load when Windows loads. I have tried manual switch but this does not work either. The HDD is a combo HDD with Firewire and USB 2.x although, if I use Firewire instead its fine...?What is happening is that Device Manager in disabling the device for some reason, and the only way in which I can get Device Manager to recognise the "EXT HDD" is to search for new hardware and then it works...?The only thing that I found to be a little odd was there is no set power showing for the USB Mass Storage Device 0 mA I know it is the right port location because it is the same number. There is something I forgot to mention and that is the battery needs replacing. I have never had a battery die on me on a motherboard ever. The only conclusion I can think for the reason why the battery has been drained in the ROC Logo on the MB I used to leave on and I think it drained the motherboard battery. If the power is terminated, example the PSU is turned off then I have to reset the BIOS.
my internet keeps disconnecting and then reconnecting after for some reason. I am using wifi on my computer to connect to the internet and every other computer in the house uses same thing and works fine. But my computer keeps disconnecting and then reconnecting to internet for some reason. It just started a couple days ago.Sometimes it goes a couple minutes before disconnecting and sometimes it disconnects after a couple hours but it keeps doing it and is really annoying.
I just bought a Windows 7 laptop (I still have my old XP laptop). I am now in Las Vegas and trying to connect to LaQuinta's wireless network from my room. My XP laptop has no problem and stay connected all day long. But my Windows 7 laptop has been having problems. The wireless connection kept getting disconnected every few minutes. I have called LaQuinta Tech Department and they couldn't figure out why either and kept telling me it's my laptop.
I can't seem to figure out what's going on with connectify. No matter what computer or wifi adapter I use, connectify seems to just stall and stop working. I have waited for upgrades to be released and it still does the same thing.
I use the Microsoft Basic Optical Mouse v2.0 with my Samsung Laptop and the USB port disconnects and reconnects the mouse often. This makes it tough to use the mouse with my computer.
I connected my phone onto the same port for syncing and didn't have issues. Could this be a problem with the mouse (2 months old) or the laptop (4 months old)?
PS. I have unchecked Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power for all the ports, but the problem still persists.
I'm having a problem with staying connected to my network with my Windows 7 PC. I have several other machines running XP and a laptop with Vista none of which are experiancing the problem.Basically what happens is the network adapter drops the connection whenever there's a high amount of throughput. Streaming media, transfering files, gaming, download all do it. Browsing is totally stable but as soon as I try to download a few things or move some stuff around the network it disconnects. It's a Linksys AG241v2 with the Pheonix Firmware and an Asus Crosshair in the PC. I've tried sifting through the forums but none of the solutions have worked so far.
got a new dell xps laptop few weeks ago. internet runs fine at home but when i connect to internet in my house at college it is very slow and keeps disconnecting. the other guys i live with all have laptops and have no trouble with it.
I'm having a problem when I connect or disconnect my firewire cable I get a BSOD. I'm not sure what to do. I think I have the latest drivers for firewire.
I recently purchased a OCZ Diesel 8GB USB drive and i plugged it into my computer and at first everything was fine then I tried to transfer some files onto it and kept hearing the "dadum...Dadum" as the drive kept connecting and disconnecting and now when I plug it in it wont stop doing that. Any suggestions on how I can stop this from happening or do I need to return the drive?I tried different usb ports on the front and back of my case and I put in my old USB and it worked fine. I also tried it on another computer and when installing the drivers it got hung up on "searching pre configured driver folders" and the same thing happened.
I just got an ipod today and when i try to plug it in to the PC it will disconnect itself after like 5 seconds. I tried on my neices laptop what still has vista and it works fine.
Windows 7 x86 I've got an USB External Hard Disk Drive (Samsung S2 Portable 500 Gb). In the last 3-4 days it keeps randomly disconnecting when in use... So, Windows starts, it runs fine for an hour or so (in use), then the magic sound strikes. After a couple of seconds it's detected again, and the whole show starts again. Sometimes it reconnects for 3-4 times in a minute. My USB drivers are up to date, I've unchecked all those Power Management things, I've installed the KB976972 update (tho I'm not quite sure I was suited for it ). I thought it was the cable's fault, so I left it on my brother's Vista PC for about 5 hours playing movies, and it worked...
I recently bought a linksys E3000 router and has been working great for a couple of weeks. Then yesterday it started to disconnect like every 50min? I would have to go into the router settings and just change back to dhcp from static then go back, then it would reconnect?
I connect with a broadband dongle. Sometimes it's disconnecting me after a couple of minutes - other times I'm OK for a couple of hours. No problem getting back on-line - only takes a minute, but it's damned annoying.I contacted the ISP (Indian call centre) and they were of no help. Said they could see the frequent disconnections but that there was no breaks in their service.
I am having this problem while gaming online, i get disconnected from game after aprox 10minutes . Tried Both using MSI RG60SE wireless and Speed-touch modem. Firmwares updated, protocol v6 unchecked everything works fine while chatting browsing etc. When i log on BF3 after 10mins or so it disconnects. Always same time. The interesting part is even on my ps3 i play fifa and it always disconnects me from it after i finish off playing first match (ps3 is wireless connected with MSI router). Always same timing.Everything disconnects and it re-connects automatically.I called providers everything fine from their side. Only thing i am concerned is I have the cat wire cable very long 25metres or so which is useless because i moved modem near pc and kept same long cable. But than why ps3 disconnects also (wireless) after 10mins? Wireless both on ps3 and pc are full signal. I am using wi-fi internet on my BB and i never disconnects i am always online.
I am on Win 7 Ultimate and my messenger kept logging out every 40 seconds or so. After I logged in,my contact list would be different each time.(I am confident that my friends did not come and go at the time.) For around 40 seconds, I would be able to open chat windows, type them a message, and it will then bounce back.Shortly after that I'd be logged off and it'll reconnect. After 6-20 times of logging in and out desperately, it would then magically log back with the correct contact list and it would stop disconnecting.
I have tried reinstall Live Messenger(6 times), checked the 'Sign me out of all other places when I sign in' box in option. I have reinstall Win 7 too many times it consumed all my free time and now my social life(MSN) is about over...
I just upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium from Vista Home Premium and ever since my Local Area Network which takes me to the internet keeps disconnecting after a few minutes. I right click on the little icon on the lower right and the troubleshooter starts and it resets the adapter but after going back to the internet it will disconnect after a short time.
My modem and router are fine because I have XP Pro on another drive on this computer and everything works fine there plus my XBOX 360 is hooked to the same router and when it is on it goes to XBOX Live no problem. Has anyone had this problem with the internet disconnecting in Windows 7?? Please let me know the fix if possible.
So for my new pc build I have used a vga cable so far untill i got a hdmi, so now i have the hdmi and i turn the computer on it shows the screen untill windows has stopped loading (when the login screen appears) saying no signal
