I have a Dell Vostro 3400 that just had its motherboard and ram replaced by Dell. It is not out of warranty. It was built in 2011. It was working fine at the office after the replacement, I took it home, it installed some updates, then after a minute it shuts off. I have tried a new hard drive, diagnostics, save mode, bios menu, no matter where it is, after a minute give or take it shuts off.

I've had it for 15 months and I've never had any problems other than occasional freeze ups. Now, I switched to Century Link (not sure if relevant) but around 6 pm (Mountain time) the internet slowed down substantially and froze my webpages and it seemed like my entire computer stopped responding. So I held down the power button. When I tried to reboot, I chose the safety one to see if any files were damaged or corrupted. Unfortunately instead of showing me something, I only see the Windows 7 blue screen with the leaves and bird. I left it alone for 20 minutes, nothing. So I shut it down and tried again. Same thing.

I have Dell Vostro 1700 and I recently upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate x64. Since then some of my function keys are not working. Fn + F1 for example is supposed to put the computer to sleep but it's not doing anything. Can you tell me which driver should I install?
On Dell.com for my computer there are drivers only for XP and Vista 32bit. For 1720 (which is the same series) there is for Vista x64 and 7 32 and 64bit. Maybe I could use some of its drivers? But I don't know which to install.
Other than that when I change the brightness of the screen of the volume i don't see visual notification as I used to in Vista. I think it is a program called dell quickset but I can't find it either.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI replaced a Dell battery with a non-Dell one in a Vostro 1720, under Windows 7. The battery powered the laptop until the manufacturer's charge (as recommended) discharged. It recharged to 10% but no further (perhaps I imagined this and it just did not discharge fully). At boot-up, the message 'Windows cannot identify the battery' comes up. This is the same message that came up when the old dead (and broken) battery was in place. I cannot find any way of managing the battery by software (this is probably a Windows 7 problem - it was possible under Vista, I think). I think that Windows 7 is just refusing to 'identify' the battery. I've tried all the permutations of mains-power/battery connection/disconnection.
