Crahes When Installing Softwares In Windows 7
Dec 1, 2008
Some Windows 7 beta testers that are reporting installation errors with Windows Update and third-party applications.
These errors will commonly manifest as crashes of Explorer and MSI-based installers. These problems may be an issue related to the Customer Experience Improvement Program, or CEIP, client, which is also known as SQM.
If you are experiencing these these issues, there is a workaround that may resolve these problems. Please note, any machine that's currently not affected by this problem does not need this fix, nor will any future installations or upgrades require it.

I have got an Windows 7 x64 PL with SP1 ISO.
What should I do to "add" the patches (those KBXXXXXXX files) from Windows Update to ISO. Is there a way to "put" .NET Framework 4.0?
I guess that "add" is very relative term as I suppose, that the new .iso file can be created at the end of the process leaving the old .iso as it was.
What I mean I've seen terms like Windows Automated Installation Kit, imagex, sysprep, OOBE, but I can hardly figure how they works.
Now there is a huge problem. I had really difficulties with understanding stuff during reading numerous articles which were telling how to make similar things (or just my guessing told so). Here are some wild guesses:
1. Editing the original .iso file with some software, thus creating the new iso.
2. Making fresh installation of Windows 7 (whether by Virtual Machine or on real hardware). Enabling audit mode, but then I don't quite get it about Out of Box Experience (OOBE), set up the things I want to and by imagex(???) create the .iso of it?
3. Creating Win PE which will be (????) a background for "typical" Windows Installation?
Does this problem have something common with unattended installation?

I am curious if there are any recommended system tuning software for 64 bits windows 7? I come across Advanced System Optimizer 3 and PCKeeper. I have not tried either of them but I have heard a few bad reviews for ASO.

I recently purchased a lenovo laptop for home purpose around 1.5 months back. The laptop was having already microsoft security essentials (MSE) and mcafee antivirus plus software. Unfortunately, yesterday i was facing blue screen on death type of error (BSOD) error. On one forum, I found that it may be due to the mcafee antivirus software. So, I uninstalled the software as per suggestion. Why MSE was not able to detect this bsod error? Moreover, why mcafee, which itself is a anti-virus software, was causing this issue?
Morever, I want to install good free antivirus software. I am totally confused whether should I install the antivirus software or, the internet security software. Please throw more light on good free internet security software from longer perspective. (I just found that almost all free trials are only for 1 month only)? Moreover, why built-in windows firewall and microsoft security essentials (MSE) are not enough for detecting malacious software. Why extra internet security software or antivirus software is required ?

I would like to ask for forum members diagnosis before I go spend hours working on the laptop for hours. The security software on the laptop will not work because Windows 7 SP1 has not been installed on the laptop. I can't seem to download SP1 from Microsoft. The local office of Geek Squad diagnosed the problem being that there is a problem with Windows 7 and it will need to be re-installed. I would like to see if forum members agree or have a different diagnosis. Its going to take me quite a while to re-install windows 7 and I would like to get a second opinion before I devote that sort of time.

I was thinking of buying windows 7 and a new HDD for myself for xmas and I wanted to install 7 on the new HDD. I currently have XP installed on my HDD at home and I was wondering if it were possible to install 7 on the new hard drive I buy and still have access to the files and programs on the other drive? Will the other programs be able to run from another hard drive or will they NEED to be installed on the new one?

I have formatted and copied windows 7 to my 4GB USB key and I have installed a new HDD into my Dell Optiplex 745. When I boot up the computer I am notified with:PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cablePXE-M0F: Existing Broadcom PXE ROMI have searched and found out that this can be caused by a bad hdd but this can't be the case seeing that I literally opened it new from it's packaging and instantly installed it. Also I heard that in order to install via USB you need to place USB to #1 in boot sequence. I have tried this but when I do this all I get is a screen with a flashing underscore at the top of the screen and I can't do anything. So I changed my boot sequence back to the way it was:1. Onboard or USB Floppy Drive (not present)2. Onboard or USB CD-ROM Drive3. Onboard SATA Hard Drive4. Onboard Network Controller5. USB DeviceI have no backup disk and I have no access to a Windows 7 DVD, all I have is it on USB.

I just bought my new machine and put it all together.I've got a fair amount of experience when it comes to building and troubleshooting.I bought a brand spanking new copy of Windows 7 Professional and it won't install.I pop the CD in my drive(The 64 bit Windows 7), I get the error stating that I have an I/O error with one of my components. When I put the 32 bit CD in- it states that Bootmgr cannot be started or is corrupt.
I grabbed a HDD out from another computer that is running on XP and plugged into my new PC. It loads to the WinXP screen, then a quick blue screen of death and resets. New PC Specs are as follows:
Asus M4A79T Deluxe Mobo
4 Gigs of G-Skill RAM
AMD Phenom 2 x4 Quad Core
80 Gig WD HDD(Sata)
Lite-On DvD Burner/Reader(Sata)

recently had to re-install Win7 on my 2009 Acer Aspire 5738Z. The laptop originally came with Vista. I had the hard drive partitioned in half. D: is running Vista. I didn't want to nuke it in case of an emergency. That was a good call because Win7 went bad. C: now runs fresh install of Win 7 64x Pro. I bring up the fact about Vista so you know this was not a native Win7 machine. After the OS re-install & a million window updates & reboots later I was left with some questions.-I have just some basic programs installed so far. My work Outlook (several gigs), office 2010, firefox, chrome, skype, teamviewer, iTunes (fresh install no music). I looked in C: in Computers & I'm using 59G of a 100 G HDD! Does that sound normal? I think I saw right after the Win7 install & all updates it was just over 40G used! Should Win7 & all needed updates amount to 40-50+ G of space? If not what have I done wrong?
-So far the system seems to be running fine. I'm just not sure if i have all the needed drivers for my laptop. I've noticed when I use the volume buttons no icon displays on the screen. It always showed up in Vista & the old Win7. That make me think I might be missing some drivers after the re-install. How can I find out if I have all the needed & up to date drivers?

I've given in and bought a 80GB SSD. At the moment I have a 1TB HDD in 3 partitions.
52.6GB 'C' 0 6.75GB free
727GB 'D'
151GB 'E'
D and E have plenty of space on them.
To install windows on the new SSD lets call it 'F'.
I need to unplug the 1TB HDD, plug in the SSD and load from CD (I know how to install windows) Just install it, won't bother with partitions on it. I will now plug in the 1TB. Once installed I have to do all the driver updates (I'm sure I'll miss a few out somehow). Then programs etc and good to go.
What can I do with the 'C' drive on the 1TB? Should I just delete the partition? I only use up 45.85GB so far on my C drive, so should have 34GB to play around with.. maybe put like WoW on there which is 23GB I think. Then leave the rest free?
