Conflicting Microsoft Compatibility Tools
Dec 8, 2009
I'm looking at two Windows 7 compatibility tools from Microsoft, and they are giving conflicting results. The Upgrade Advisor download (Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor - Download - Microsoft Windows) says two of my printers have "Unknown" status and that my version of Symantec has "Known Issues" and may experience problems. But when I use the online Compatibility Center (Windows 7 Compatibility Center home) it says those items are "Compatible" and they have big green check marks next to them. Which one should I believe?

I know there is a tool available to test my computer to see if it's capable of running Windows 7. My question is this: Is there a tool available that I can run on the server that will test all machines on my network? With the free Windows Upgrade Advisor, I must visit each computer. Just looking for a way to do this without visiting each computer.

My question concerns Microsoft Office 2000 and Windows 7 compatibility. Windows 7 isnt compatible with Office 2000. In a new system build with Windows 7, would a second operating system (Windows XP) on a separate partition or disc drive get around the compatibility issue?

I just looked at a thread where a person complained that there is a known incompatibility between Win 7 and Outlook 2002, namely that Outlook would not save passwords in the Win7 environment. Microsoft has offered no solutions and the tenor of most of the replies was that the complainer should just quit whining and upgrade. The software was purchased and the purchaser should have every expectation to be able use it, especially within a monopoly OS. The problem is that Microsoft doesn't support their software and actively (criminally?) plans their obsolescence so that people will be forced to upgrade. This is mere to pad their profits and does not serve the society in which they operate as an exclusive franchise. If a software company stops supporting their software, then they should be forced by statute to open the source code.Any arguments against this are purely fatuous They may claim that they are protecting source code, but if this is so, then the new upgrade is just a minor adjustment and not a substantive upgrade to the code. Minor changes to inventions are not worthy of patent protection under patent law. They can't have it both ways.Their attempt to force upgrades whenever they introduce a new OS cries out for protection under anti-trust laws.Microsoft does not have the authority or the right to pad their profits by planning obsolescence into systems that they monopolize. If they don't want to support old software then let them turn this task over to competitors. This is the meaning of patent law, to allow innovations that serve the interest of society. This is an industry that is out of control and needs fixing. Their control of the OS places a huge and unnecessary cost burden on the middle class throughout the world. This is a drag on the entire economy and adversely impacts our society in numerous ways.

Since installing Windows 7, there are now a lot of automatic updates queued up when I boot up in Vista. These look like a lot of the same ones that were updated when I added Windows 7, so is letting the automatic update go through on Vista going to undo those changes and ruin my Windows 7?
And my Symantec Antivirus won't install on Windows 7 because it says there are system states going to be changed when I restart, so I have to do that first. I'm guessing that's something to do with these automatic updates, so I need to get rid of them somehow! Or actually update. Let me know =) I have no idea

And my wife insisted for "romantic" vacation and in other words a severely remote place where there is no way of fixing my laptop until i get back to the city. All i have now is my wife's laptop which runs on windows 7 and a very slow dial up modem. so big downloads are out of the question. But i need some work done now and it cant wait. I installed Windows 7 a few months ago. I started having problems soon after. So I reinstalled Win 7, Friday. The same problems continued. One that my son found was when we installed Spy Sweeper. That made it impossible to switch between users, so we uninstalled it. The other major problem has been the Developer's Tools window that pops up when I try to type any reply or information into any program on the internet. I can't get rid of it by hitting the X. After about an hour on the computer, that stops. Does anyone have an idea on what could cause this?

My flat mate set up a security thing called Drive Encryption for HP ProtectTools. What this does is, upon start up, before it lets you load windows, you need to enter a password and pin. Clearly, it is anoying, so he handed it to me to get rid of it. It will not uninstall, as it says it is still active, and must be deactivated. I went into services - found it - disabled it. I went into some .msc thing i saw on the HP forums, disabled it. I went into the BIOS - Disabled it. I have disabled every aspect of it, however, it will still not uninstall, and continues to ask for a password and pin prior to windows starting.

I have a problem with my uncle`s computer.. Recently, he was watching Netflix, and lost his internet connection, he said that his computer`s performance was slower than usual. I came over and checked his computer`s status, ran MalewareBytes, I found two items.. However, don`t think that this is the cause of the problem. It`s seems as if he cannot access parts of his computer, such as: Microsoft Management Counsel, Microsoft System Restore, etc. I cannot access the C: drive, or D: drive. They`re currently blank and do not allow access when clicked on. I would be more than happy to restore, but I can not use this option since there isn`t access to it. I cannot install Anti-Virus software, or uninstall programs, since there is no access to C.

If you're a system or network administrator, you need monitoring tools. You have to know, at all times, the status of your systems so you can optimize performance and head off potential problems. Thankfully, plenty of tools are available to help you stay in the know about your systems. Some of these products are costly and do quite a lot. But others are free and do just as much and in some cases, more. I want to introduce you to five system and/or network monitors that do more than you'd think they could do. From this list of products you will certainly find one or more tools that will serve your needs.
