C Drive Is Always Taking 150 Gb After Shrink For HP LAPTOP?
Jul 11, 2010
I have created new hard drive by shrinking but after shrinking my C drive isoccupying near around 150 though it is using only 40 GB so i want to allocate only 70 GB and rest for a new drive.and one more thing after shrinking my all hard drive became dynamic simple volume previously it was Basic volume. will I face any problem for that?

Although there isn't an interface specficially designed for it, you can actually view the progress of a volume shrink operation in Windows 7, and cancel a shrink that is in-progress, using the Disk Defragmenter tool.Volume shrink can take a long time, especially if you have a very full, or fragmented hard drive. Being able to view the shrink progress can be pretty handy!

I just bought a new gateway with Win7 and a 2 TB harddrive. I wanted to partition the drive. I was following directions on how to shrink the C drive. I right clicked on the C drive in disk management and selected shrink volume. Then I clicked SHRINK without entering anything. I'm not sure if anything changed or not. I would like to get the C drive back like it was with 2 TB.

I just purchased a new HP Pavillion with a 1.5 Tb drive. I want to shrink the C:drive down to about 100Gb, and create other drive letters, with roughly 500Gb, 500Gb and 400Gb.I went into Disk Management and began the process by attempting to shrink the C: drive, but the smallest it would let me shrink it was 651Gb. I got a message saying that unmovable system files prevented it from shrinking any more.I tried defragging, but that didn't get me any more shrink. Then I tried disabling the paging file and defragging again, but that didn't gain me any more shrink.CallThey said this was outside the scope of their warranty.

I have a 300gb harddrive that i shrank by 50gb to make room for a windows 7 rc1 32 bit dual boot. I now need to extend the partition because i have almost filled it up. When i shrink the main partition (the 238gb one) that has vista on it, it won't let me extend the windows 7 partition onto it.
This is what it looks like in diskmgmt.msc
Vista (188gb)/Unallocated space (~50gb)/Windows (50gb)/HP_RECPVERY (9.91gb)

My Toshiba Sattelite has recently started to have a few problems. When I boot it up, it takes about 5 minutes to get past the Welcome/Please Wait screen. After that there is a black screen which takes a further 5-10 minutes to get past.

My Samsung laptop brought couple months back keeps taking a long time to sleep. The actual time taken seems to vary greatly, sometimes a few seconds, but otherwise hours upon hours (I at that point shut it down).
The time it takes for it to sleep does not seem to always correlate to the numbers of applications I have open either, nor the RAM usage. Sometimes it sleeps fine with a lot of programs open, other times it fails to when there are only a few.

For some reason my laptop takes forever to connect to a shared drive on my desktop on my home network. I've tried connecting to it by mapping the drive and through windows explorer and same thing. Sometimes it won't even connect at all. I don't have this issue with other computers on the network. And when I say a long time I am meaning like 5 minutes or more. At first it was maybe only 1-2 minutes but it is getting worse. My mouse icon has had the spinning ring around it trying to connect the whole time I have been writing this. Both computers are Win 7 pro x64 with sp1. Desktop is wired directly to the router and laptop has excellent signal strength. Both have DHCP reservations set in the router. The way I usually connect is by starting a run box and typing \[desktop pc name][share] then it just spins

I know there are a myriad of slave drive access issue posts on here. My thing is that I've managed to take ownership of my slave drive; formerly in a tower - now trying to access it thru my windows 7 laptop. Ive taken ownership of " my documents," but it doesn't seem like it took; I still have to take ownership of every folder in it individually when I go into it. Furthermore, when I going into my music or video folders - I get a "file not found" error when I try to open the files.

I deleted all shadow copies, first via Disk Cleanup and then via vssadmin, all per your instructions. It didn't help. I then went in and disabled System protection. It didn't help either.Disk manager still says I only have 462756 MB shrink space out of a total of 953867 MB (NTFS), leaving 491111 MB after shrinkage. That's not enough - I need to shrink the C volume to 96 GB, because I want to move to my empty RAID SSD (2 disks/mirror) with 107.13 GB (NTFS). I assume the reason I cannot use Seagate's disk utility to execute the move is that it cannot move from a larger partition to a smaller, but it hasn't actually told me that - it just doesn't follow instructions.)

I want to shrink my C drive. The volume shrink in disk management. It says that it is corrupt run chkdsk (something like that) SO I run the error checking and restart. Then it says error can fix error (some long thing with a billion numbers. Then it says run system recovery from control panel to back date the c drive to a before hand restore. So I go through that but right at then end the last button to push it says error on c drive first run error checking.
