BSOD Playing Dead Island, Driver Attempting To Corrupt Kernel Caught?
Jul 17, 2012
Is Windows 7 . . .
- x64
- Upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium from Windows Vista Home Premium
- OEM
- 2008 - the year the computer was built
- Can't remember exactly when I installed the OS
I basically get a BSOD about an hour or so into the game, or sometimes at random. I've never had this kind of problem before with games I've ran system checks on ESET Online Scanner, Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware and a few tracking cookies were removed but the problems still persist SFC /SCANNOW showed up an error which it couldn't repair so I've attached the CBS log aswell I've also uninstalled Daemon Tools Lite as I've read it can cause problems, but it hasn't made any difference Also i've already ran Memtest on both my 2GB sticks of RAM and they've come up clean, testing each stick for 4 passes with and without the other stick in each slot Also ran a CPU stress test from Intel and it came out fine?

I am getting BSODs while playing games. They are irregular and can happen every half hour or several hours in between.
Rig is:
Asus Sabertooth P67 (latest bios 3029, after installing these more problems occured)
Intel i5 CPU
Nvidia Geforce 9800GT
Corsair Vengeance 4gb x 4
All drivers are the latest. Graphics, chipset, SATA, BIOS and so forth. I have run both memtest86 which showed no errors in individual testing of the memories but when I had them all in and ran it an error showed up. I have done the chkdsk. Both /f /r and without it. Did show up errors but claims to be fixed now.
Ntoskrnl is the driver that always shows up. What I really need to know is if this is a hardware or driver problem. My biggest question is if it is a motherboard issue or not. I had bsod problems before I updated BIOS but they happened more frequently after. Attaching the three latest minidumps.

Brand new computer, nothing on the hard drives:
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0Ghz LGA 775
ASUS P5Q SE/R LGA 775 Intel P45 MOBO
EVGA Geforce GTX 285 Video Card
4 Gigs (2x@GB) G Skill 1066 MHz RAM
Two hard drives and a CD-RW all SATA
Had problems from the start, the install from DVD froze, and after hard-reset I continued to reboot, a new error came up each time. First it was corrupt kernel, then missing registry files, then missing bootmgr, a BSOD, etc.
Somehow the install finally worked. I booted up and started loading drivers; loaded the GTX 285 Windows 7 specific driver, and all hell broke loose again: on restart, it froze, hard-reset right back into the earlier problems.
I cannot boot from my hard drive, or my DVD, both will continue to bring up the "please boot from repair CD" or EMS mode with a different error each time.
I just slow burned a hash-verified RC 7100 64 bit .iso, which I will try out. Failing that I'm going to use linux fdisk to clear my partitions and try to start from there. (I'm at work now, so I have 8 hours to ponder this.)
Any idea of what's going on? Any ideas?

I Bought i custom built pc 2 days ago and have finished updating. I decided to check if i had any outdated drivers by going on intel driver utility. After clicking check drivers it instantly crashed and came up with the BSOD. I reinstalled windows 7 pro 64x and it's done it again. I have an Amd Quad core Pc. A10-5800k. Is it crashing because im on amd or is there something more wrong?

Toshiba Laptop running windows 7 64 bit. 4 gigs ram. T4500 processor. In a new house, just installed a new wireless router (linksys WRT something) with encryption.I am having difficulty downloading anything from the internet. Browsing works just fine but whenever I load a video or download a file of any size I get difficulties. After downloading Silverlight or Steam and attempting to install I get a message that the file is corrupt.Google downloader (trying to reinstall chrome) and windows update will both download just fine up a certain point then the download will abruptly stop, even though the internet is still working. This is an ongoing theme with movies as well. They will buffer to a point then the video will be unable to play past that point.I have tried going around the router and using a different browser both to no avail. I ran spybot and had to download updates from 2 different locations because 3 items would not download from the first server. Several problems were found but my problem was not fixxed.

I had some issues previously with XP (blue screen of death). I thought I may have had a virus so I went ahead and reformatted my hard drive completely and purchased the win 7 upgrade cd and license in order to do a clean install. When I try to boot from the cd, I get an error right when it's done loading that says that the kernel is missing or corrupt.I am not a computer expert, but I'm thinking I may have some sort of motherboard problem at this point...

I have recently setup a raid 0+1 array on a computer with 4 identical hard drives. I installed windows 7 and the installation without a hitch. However on the reboot a windows error message appears and says the following:
File: \Windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
Status: 0xc0000221
Info: Windows failed to load because the kernel is missing, or corrupt.
I have tried many things in an attempt to resolve this issue. I have tried reinstalling, using a different DVD drive and removing the RAID array to no avail. I have also disconnected the hard drive which is not associated with the RAID array also to no avail.

I turned on my pc, and it would not let me get past start up, saying
file : Windowssystem32
tkrnlpa.exe
status : 0xc00000e9 Info:
Windows failed to load because the kernel is missing or corrupt
I tried a few things, mostly the startup repair option that it would (recommend) to me next to the start windows normally option. this did absolutely nothing, and the problem continued. So I said ok, I give up, and decided to back up everything and completely reformat and reinstall windows. I did this, it installed successfully. I couldn't believe it...even after completely reformatting, I could not get past start up. The system repair option still does nothing, even with the disc in and I tried reinstalling it a bunch of times, but now it wont even do that correct all the way through, keeps coming up with errors talking about files either missing or corrupt. I wiped partitions and tried again alot of times, but nothing. Now it doesnt even recognize windows 7 as being installed at all. [URL]

This started happening last night while i was playing Borderlands 2, it has happened at idle, playing just about any game in my library, during downloads and just browsing the web. I changed all of my accessible drivers, and it continued to happen, so i moved all of my personal files onto my external HDD. I re installed windows on my SSD (did not reformat) and reformatted my HDD. I re installed my drivers, re-enabled SLI and it ran fine for about an hour, just downloading WoW, and then happened again twice.

Dell XPS 9100 with Windows 7 pro X64. Dell support is no help, they just keep saying it is a software issue because their boot diagnostic doesnt show any problems. It quite often makes me do a system restore before i can get back into windows after it happens. Event log says Critical type, Kernel Error. System is less then 6 months old. I have had this problem for 3 of those months for a total of about 8 times.

Currently this happens with this game only. I do not know much about computers but I noticed the event viewer says kernel-power event 41. The PC is brand new month old. I a little frustated because I do not know what to do?

As of yesterday when ever I attempt to upload a file or an attachment by email or site request I am hit by instant BSOD! I have a compressed file of all logs on my desktop but unble to upload for your scrutiny as blocked by BSOD!
How can I get file to you? PC works well in all other aspects, and restarts after BSOD without a problem.
Only change to system was recent upgrade of Canon Pixma printer 3000 to all in one Canon printer Pixma 499....using the new printer/scanner/copier/ets,I carried out my first ever scan to this PC.It could be coincidental, but problem began after that!

I built my first computer almost two weeks ago, and it worked just fine for a while, but now it repeatedly gives me a blue screen whenever I try to log in. Sometimes it happens after I type in my password and press enter, sometimes while I'm typing it, and sometimes when I just hover the mouse pointer over my user icon.
I attempted the System Health Report like the BSOD thread instructed, but that generates an error: The system cannot find the path specified.

After booting up from the x64 OS disc, the system loads the files. (Including the loading progress bar.) Then proceeds to a screen that says "Starting Windows", but before the logo appears (Or any signs of the OS installing), I get a BSOD every time.

I have built a few computers over the years and this is the first one that has had an issue that has totally stumped me. I have built it for the parents. Now as far as i can tell everything is fine with the build, but the computer is randomly BSOD,especially when running the WINDOWS VERIFIER, to catch the error (BSOD on startup).I have used a program to analyze the results of the Verifier and this is the result:
On Wed 5/23/2012 9:14:30 AM GMT your computer crashed
crash dump file: C:Windowsmemory.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: ndisrd.sys (ndisrd+0x266E)
Bugcheck code: 0xC4 (0x40, 0x0, 0xFFFFF9800ED66C50, 0x0)

I have been having some hard drive issues with my Acer and I'm not sure if they are serious or not. I am not computer savvy and am planning to take the bar exam to get licensed as an attorney in a few weeks and really need my computer for the exam. I am hoping someone can advise me as to whether my problem is serious enough that I need to get another computer to use for the bar exam.

ASUS AMD 990 FX mobo
AMD fx 6100 3.31Ghz processor
16GB corsair vengence RAM (4X4)
Kingston SSDnow100 128GB
EVGA Geforce GTX580
and of course runnig Windows 7 64 bit OS
I built my first comp last year and it was great, however now, been getting random restarts for no apparent reason. Found that it may be the HD or the PSU, switched out my PSU from a thermaltake 750w to a corsair 850w just in case, I wasn't getting enough power to my components. worked for about a day, tried feeding the power directly from wall thinking it may be the power strip, worked for a few days so I bought a new one from best buy, then a few days later it happened again.
Now I am thinking ok, now it has to be that shiny new kingston SSD!! I had a slave HD figured why not, installed Windows 7 to it, it ran fine for about 2-3 weeks, then last night BAM! instead of shooting the comp i did more research, checked the event viewer found that it is definitely a kernel 41, went to Windows site and followed a tip from them to make sure the auto restart feature was unchecked. Now I am waiting for another restart. the only thing left is the RAM.

I have a samsung laptop RV411. So I closed the cover and then opened it for transfer. However, I did not shut it down. So when I opened it, it turned black and it turned BSOD. It says KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR. So I restarted my PC. Now, I cant get out of the POST. There is 2 available options F2 for setup and F4 for recovery. I pressed both and it went Please Wait... Forever! I used the recovery disk no luck.

I've been having this problem from some time now. My computer randomly locks up, it's not shutting down or going to blue screen. It just locks up and stays there until I hard reset the entire computer. My computer specs.

When I run SpeedFan 4.40 my CPU core temp for all 7 cores are sitting at about 42-45c without any applications running. While I'm gaming they normally hit about 50-55c. At first I though these crashes may have been caused by the CPU overheating to I was thinking about picking up an Hydro Series H50 CPU Cooler but I really doubt this would resolve the issue. My GPU cloaks at about 50-52c without applications running.. even that's rather high. But again, I don't think overheating is the issue. I've updated all the hardware in my computer to the latest that was available and BIOS. This problem started happening a few months ago, and today alone I've had 3 lock ups in the last hour.

i've been getting bsods for the past couple of months. i'm running windows 7 professional x64 on a one-year-old sony vaio vpcs12c7e laptop. it's the original os which came installed on the system, and i've never re-installed it. the bsods all share some basic features:
they're all 0x0000007f unexpected_kernel_mode_trap errors (see attached dump files). they all happen when watching content online (usually adobe flash based, such as Internet) though occasionally offline when using vlc player. they all happen seemingly sporadicly - either thirty seconds or two hours under the above conditions.
the bsods also occur more instantaneously when streaming high-quality videos or multiple files at once. they started happening directly after i inserted an empty usb memory stick from a friend into my laptop. i can't recall the make or model of the usb stick. anyway, here are the dump files.
