Over the past week i have had a new compaq laptop with windos 7.In this laptop there is a piece of software included with the laptop its 'microsoft works'.now I'm having my desktop converted from xp to windows 7 tomorrow is there any way that i can copy that MW from the laptop so I can install it on the desktop.

Now, I want to copy the data from one drive to the second drive but I have to be sure I have a perfect copy of the data. The data is mostly songs movies and documents. I'm using windows 7.

View 4 Replies View RelatedHow can I get Windows 7 to name copied files using the scheme "Copy of" (used in Windows XP and earlier) instead of the default scheme "- Copy", whenever a file is copied to the same directory as the original file?In other words, if you copy a file named "Foo.txt" in a directory to the same directory, Windows XP would have named that file "Copy of Foo.txt", but Windows 7 names the file "Foo - Copy.txt". I want the copy to be named "Copy of Foo.txt".There are several reasons why I prefer the XP style file name:
1. It is familiar :-)
2. I have existing files that use the XP style file names, and I want all my file copies to use the same naming scheme. I guess I can do a massive file rename across all my backups, but that would solve only one of my problems.
3. Most of my folders are sorted by name, and using XP style would sort all copies together. On other forums it has been suggested that one can simply sort by date (to get the copies sorted together), but that advice assumes that all copies are created after all other files are created, which is actually not often the case.
4. I often work with long file names, which means that the end of the file name is often obscured, unless I have wide windows (not always possible) and use lots of horizontal scrolling every time I want to select a file. Hovering over a file to get its full name is a cumbersome solution.
5. On other forums some have given the advice to always make copies in subfolders, but I often make copies or copies of copies while I work (it allows me to roll back or to check earlier versions of a file quickly, during my work), and using subfolders would slow me down tremendously (not to mention confuse me).
I know that when TeraCopy is made the copy handler, it renames files in a different way than Windows 7 does, though unfortunately not the way Windows XP did it. Also, if one installs a third-party directory program such as Opus, it asks for a file name every time a copy is made, but I need something that simply names the file correctly immediately.
I have installed windows 7 evaluation copy build 7201 and i want to find out if i will be able to upgrade it to the original copy and how? Any suggestions?

View 9 Replies View RelatedEvery now and then my WiFi stops working, and if I go to dev mgr, the General tab tells me that "No drivers are installed for this device" for device status. On the other tabs, however, I have all the details on the installed driver, and if I ask Windows to update the driver, it tells me that the best driver is already installed. The problem is solved by rebooting, but I find that annoying. I'd like to figure out WHY it does that. I've saved earlier versions of that particular driver from over the last three years, and the problem occurs with all of the drivers. This is a Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit system. The driver is an Intel driver; the one installed at this moment (it just happened again, and I have not rebooted, since I had a powerline enet outlet handy), and the version of the Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN is 14.3.1. I have other versions of that driver saved, from 13.2.1.5 to 15.1.1_Ds64. I had reverted to the 14.3.1 because the more recent versions seemed to be worse about the driver disabling itself or whatever it is doing.Coincidentally with this, the event viewer shows that mmc.exe was terminated because it was hanging. I had just run sfc yesterday, and there are no corrupt files that Windows cannot fix, and there weren't even any corrupt files that it DID fix.

It was working fine a few days ago but I can't seem to copy any file though I can easily read the files stored at a very high speed. But the problem is probably with my computer since I can copy files from my laptop without an itch.

I have a Windows 7 pc with an external 500Mb usb hard drive. As it is getting full I've added a 2Tb usb drive. When I try to copy/move files by drag and drop from the 500Mb to the 2Tb it just sits there analysing files and locks up explorer. I tried using FBackup and had the same problem.Also, I cannot transfer files across the wireless network from an XP laptop, although that used to work.

I was looking at the Dell Inspiron Zino HD to replace the full tower PC in my living room that has lower specs. Right now my living room PC is running Ubuntu 9.04 with Boxee so if I did order the Zino HD I would install Ubuntu on it and not need Windows.
My question is can I take the copy of windows that comes with the Zino HD and give it to my sister to put on her PC? Right now she has XP(was running Vista but she downgraded). Also, her computer is not a Dell, if that matters. It does have a 64 bit Intel chip though, so would I need to order a 64 bit version of Windows 7 with my Zino HD?
I haven't called Dell to see if I can get a Zino HD OSless but that is always a hassle and my sister could use a copy of Windows 7.
If it is possible do I call Microsoft right away to deactivate it or can I just give her the CDs to my sister and install and activate on her computer? Also, do I need to get Ultimate with my Zino HD to have it work or can I do it with the cheapest version that has 64 bit?

One of our employees is unable to copy/paste from our terminal server in Europe to her local machine anymore, and I'm trying to figure out the problem. I've already made sure that the Clipboard is checked in the RDP connection properties. I tried connecting as her on my machine, and the same thing happens. If I log out and then reconnect as me, copy/paste works. Should I have the remote admin take a look at his policy?

Now this netbook did not come back with a burner, which i was aware of anyway. They do recommend a usb flash drive with the capacity of 12 gb's. I do not want to have to spend more money on another gadget just to make a copy of it. I do have a burner in my desktop which i have networked to the net-book, and am trying to see if i could at least copy or share it to my desktop and make copies there...but having a heck of a time so far.
View 6 Replies View Relatedwin7 disk from the prompt, however the Repair option isnt avaialbe, my "Partition 1" with windows currently on it is 484gb's and only 21 is free, i cannot system restore, safe mode or anything so this is my only option, i cant backup any data as i have no externals, and i need everything on this drive intact, so formatting isnt an option but the OS is unbootable due to a bad driver, which i cant fix, im at the Win7 setup screen ive clicked install, accepted terms, and now i have to select the partition to instal windows on i have my 100mb recovery and my main partition, with all my stuf on it, if i choose this partition and click next but i dont click the format button
