Windows 7 And Mac Gaming Together Over Lan?

Jan 16, 2013

I am the guy you all know who is basically a computer retard. I know where the power button is and how to surf the web but most of my computer experience comes from gaming consoles. Recently I bought a pc with the intention of getting into pc gaming as I was informed that it was a better all round experience. In our office there are 2 people with macs and 2 people with windows. We would like to start gaming against each other over a lan router as we are stationed in china and finding games can often be a nightmare. I would like to know if it is possible to do this and how we would go about it

Is Windows 7 Really Best For Gaming

Jun 14, 2012

This is just where people can offer their thoughts and opinions on windows 7.

1: Is windows 7 really the best for gaming?

2: Do you think windows 8 will be better than windows 7 for gaming?

3: Why do you like windows 7?

4: Why do people hate Vista?

5: Is XP dead?

6: Why do Gamers still stick with XP?

I have been using XP Pro x64 for a few years now and the latest games have been mainly optimized for vista and 7. And XP x64 is a very early version of x64 operating systems which has a few Compatibility and driver issues. Since Game companies are heading for directX 10 and 11 will this perhaps make XP obsolete for gamers? But what about Vista? When i upgraded from XP to Vista specifically for DX10 i noticed that i had a huge decrease in performance, even in DX9. People say that this is because of Vista's Aero Interface, I find this hard to believe considering windows 7 has an even more complex Aero interface and performs much better in an gaming enviroment.

BSOD While Gaming On Windows 7?

Jun 1, 2012

yesterday i started receiving a bsod while i was playing diablo3. i was having no issues with the game, everything was running fine and all of a sudden the screen froze and the sound got stuck so to speak. after a few minutes i then received a bsod. i rebooted the computer and went back to playing. i received another bsod. i looked on the diablo3 forums and saw that this was an issue that was affecting a lot of players. but before this day i had been playing the game fine for hours at a time for at least 5 days. i saw that the graphics drivers may be causing an issue so i made sure that they were up to date. i still received the bsod after 20-40 minutes of playing. i tried reverting to old drivers and still received the bsod. i tried uninstalling the game and re-installing and still received the bsod. i decided to try a different game and after about 30 minutes of that game my computer crashed. both of the games are made by blizzard so i thought it might be an issue with them. however, i have never received an error before when playing the second game, which i have been playing for a year or so on this computer.i then tried watching a video on Internet and after about 23 minutes it froze and i got the bsod. i tried one more time to watch another video and this time i lasted almost an hour before it crashed. i decided to let my computer sit with nothing on the screen for almost 2 hours. when i went to open the internet it didn't seem to respond and just hung with the blue busy wheel. i was not able to open any program. i did ctrl+alt+del and got a black screen followed by a box that read "failure to display security and shut down options". i then had to turn the computer off by the power button.my computer doesn't seem to be writing dump files even though i have enabled them to be saved. im not sure how to remedy that. i have tried updating my graphics drivers and reverting to old ones. i have done a memtest and no problems were detected. i monitor my temps and it never seems to get anywhere close to overheating.i have never had a problem with this computer until yesterday. the only major things that have changed is that i downloaded diablo3 on the 25th (though i didnt start receiving the bsods until the 30th) and i have recently moved so i have a new router and internet connection.

Windows XP To Vista - Better For Gaming?

Jul 4, 2010

Basically I'm at a stalemate with myself. I know well about Vista's issues - but what I'm wondering is from a gaming point of view.I'm currently running Windows XP Professional SP2 (my Windows 7 disc is 64 bit only and won't run on this rig 'till I upgrade the CPU =( ) and essentially I'm wondering - is Vista any better for gaming? For the record, I've an ATi Radeon HD 4350 graphics card.

Shutdown While Gaming Under Windows 7?

Jan 17, 2010

I have had random computer shutdowns while playing games since I installed windows 7. Any games remotely needing graphical work will shutdown my computer.Let me stress this did not happen ever while I had windows vista.I understand from reading into my problem I am far from the only one with this issue. Someone else seems to hint that this has to do with directx 10-11 and directx 10 video-cards and was wondering if a fix had been issued yet.I have the latest drivers and the latest version of directx. I will say this is not a overheating issue nor a power supply problem nor a short circuit, this is not a windows installation error , nor a virus.

saphirre Radeon HD 4890
Asus P5n32E SLI plus
Intel Core2 quad cpu 2.66ghz

Windows 7 64 Bit Gaming - Shutdowns Without Warning

Customizing Shortcuts In Windows (through Gaming Keys)

Mar 10, 2012

I've been thinking of getting myself a nice new wireless mouse and keyboard, and I've noticed some of the high-end ones have a lot of "customizable MMO gaming keys". The Naga Epic Razer is pretty impressive with a (supposed) 17 customizable keys.

[URL]

Another neat item is the Corsair k90. I want this one for it's mechanical-switch keys more than for the gaming-keys. But if I can put those keys to use... it could be worth it.

[URL]

What I would like to know is... in Windows 7 itself (not the games) can you use these type of keys for certain shortcuts? Like, when I'm on the desktop, I could open up frequently used programs, at the tap of a key on my mouse? Or if I start a movie in VLC, could I link the keys to volume, play/pause or fast-forward/rewind functions?

I do game, somewhat, but these are pretty expensive peripherals. If I did buy them I would want them to be of use beyond just games. But so far as I've searched, I haven't found any indication that the keys can be used for non-gaming shortcuts.

Did Windows Update Slow Down Gaming Performance

Dec 26, 2012

I am building a new gaming system, considering that the screen is only 1920x1080 resolution, from most benchmarks I have seen, the i7 and GTX670 I put in it shoul be enough to handle any current game at highest settings at a playable framerate. So I put in a temporary junk HDD and installed Windows 7 (64bit professional) just to test it out and try different configurations on it before I install it for real on the actual system drive. After downloading the demos to known hardware-straining games like Crysis and Metro 2033 I was pretty satisfied with the performance.Evetually, I ran windows update and installed all recommended and optional (except for Bing Desktop) updates. After several reboots and re-updates to make sure everything was installed I shut it down. The next day I start it up again and notice that it was taking two to three times as long to boot up..... fair enough, I did just install many updates. But now I noticed that performance had taken a total nosedive as well. For some reason it took several minutes after the desktop had loaded for any program to actually start up. The Crysis demo (even with vsync turned on from the console) had massive tearing where there wasn't any before, and the Metro 2033 demo had slowdowns, especially when turning!

I suspect its MSE thats causing it (I am going to install NOD32 as my real antivirus anyway) but is there any way I can test what could be causing this lag in case it isn't MSE? I can't just not run Windows Update after all, that would be beyond stupid, especially on a fresh install. Pretty much the only thing that changed between the last time I ran those demos and now was installing updates.
