Windows Mail After SP1 Update

Feb 27, 2011

Before Installing the SP1 Windows Download Make a restore Point Just incase.Go to your C-Drive and go to the Program folder which in put the Windows Mail folder which you got from your old vista OS. Copy and save it to a thumb drive and also you can save it to your desktop. After that DELETE it from your programs folder. If it won't let you delete it, you must take OWNER SHIP of the file, I will put the Reg file on here so you can downlaod it. Go ahead and download and install the SP1 from MS. After install you will get a pop up saying Windows mail MSOE.DLL is missing, just click ok. Go Back into the program folder, you will see that SP1 put a new windows mail folder in there, DELETE IT. Then paste your old windows mail back in there, The one from VISTA . Your mail should work again just like before. If this worked for you please reply, If you need the windows mail file folder let me know and if you need 32 or 64 Bit.If you install SP1 already you should have a restore point from MS they put in, and also if you have a copy of the Windows mail folder from Vista remove the one SP1 put in there and replace it with the Vista one. See if that works before restoring.

Windows 7 Live Mail Update?

Apr 5, 2012

I recently got a prompt for a Windows Live Mail 2011 update. So, I allowed it. Upon rebooting it required that I log onto the Messenger feature, which I never use and don't care to. So I canceled the Messenger prompt and then my entire Mail system failed. I then used the Windows 7 Restore function to fall back to prior system files and now all is Ok.

No Outgoing E-mail After Windows 7 64bit Update

Sep 17, 2011

No outgoing e-mail after Windows 7 64bit update? Yesterday after much hesitation I decided to apply the windows 7 service pack 1 for 64bit. I had hesitated in applying this update after hearing rumours that it may cause internet connectivity problems. After completing the update I indeed discovered to my horror that in fact my internet (Orange.fr ISP) had indeed ceased to function along with my e-mail, nothing at all was working. In view of the fact that my machine previously had been working very well Without SP1 .I did a System Restore to before the offending Service Pack was installed. After this my internet came back and my incoming mail was restored using Windows Live Mail, But I now cannot send, reply to or forward any e-mail at all.On further checking,I find that I can send e-mails if I go to my ISP website's(Orange.fr as I live in France)messaging page, This suggests to me that a corruption of my Windows Live mails has taken place, but of course I could be on the wrong track.

AWOL Windows Live Mail After Update

Oct 23, 2012

After installing what appears to be a Windows Live update, now, each time I start Windows Live Mail, the pop-up logo appears for it, but, the window for the inbox doesn't. Then, I have to click to bring the window forward into view, which 2 out of 3 times it will appear as a smaller than usual window.Since it is being launched from a button on my taskbar and not from a shortcut it's not likely being started minimized. I did have a startup shortcut that ran it minimized before the update took precedence of it.

Windows Live Mail 2011 Installed But Windows Update Not Complete

Oct 25, 2010

I applied a Windows Update the other day without realizing that I was doing a major update from Windows Live Mail to WLM 2011. The installation progress window stopped at about 50% complete and just stayed there. After doing some Googling about the update (KB2434419) I read that behind the progress window is another window which asks the user whether all Windows Live apps are to be installed and updated or just the ones that have already been installed. I had been using only Windows Live Mail, so I chose to update only that application to WLM 2011. The installation appeared to run successfully, and I have been using WLM 2011 for two days. It works fine, although I've had to get familiar with numerous changes to its appearance and user interface.

The Windows Update icon is still at the right end of my taskbar, however, and when I click on it, the progress window is still showing "Installing update 1 of 1" about 50% complete as if it does not realize that the installation of WLM 2011 finished two days ago! The only option in that window is a "Stop installation" button. I am afraid to click that button in case it initiates a rollback of the WLM 2011 installation. Why does Windows Update think that the installation isn't complete? How do I terminate the session of Windows Update and not disturb the WLM 2011 installation that completed two days ago? Do I dare kill the Windows Update process that is running?

Importing Mail From Outlook To Windows Live Mail

May 19, 2009

This is quite a complex operation and MS doesn't actually explain how to do it so here goes.

The trick is to get your email messages into Outlook Express (OE on XP) or Windows Mail (on Vista) before you can import into Windows Live mail. Then the import can be done directly.

There isn't any way currently to import mail directly from Outlook to Windows Live Mail so you have to do it indirectly BEFORE installing Windows 7.

1) even if you don't use Outlook Express (XP) or Windows Mail (VISTA) you need to have them running on the same machine as your copy of OUTLOOK.

2) create (if you haven't already) email accounts in OE or Windows mail identical to those you have in Outlook.

3) Now import your messages from Outlook into OE or Windows Mail.

4) Change the Store Identity in OE or Windows mail to a disk that your Windows 7 can read (do this under Maintenance - data storage locations in OE or Windows Mail).

Doing this saves you having to install Live Mail on Vista or XP

5) Logon to your Windows 7 system and install Windows Live mail.

6) Set up your email accounts

7) File ==> import==>messages

8) Chose Outlook express or Windows mail depending on step 3)

9) Browse to the directory where you stored the messages in step 4)

10) Job done.

A bit fiddly but obviously MS don't want to make it easy for people to switch from Outlook

Note also the "Send and Receive" function is calles "SYNC" in Windows Live mail -- confusing but there it is.

If you also installed Windows Messenger you can prevent it from starting automatically at startup by going to the Orb ==>acessories==>run. type msconfig and unclick windows messenger in the start up box.

There doesn't appear to be ANY method of importing mail directly from Outlook 2003/2007.

Now it seems that not only is my email is being wrecked by Windows Live Mail, but Microsoft is monitoring my private mail! Why am I receiving messages (below) from Microsoft re Live Mail and Hotmail? In effect it seems that Windows Live Mail is duplicating AND storing incoming mail on my ISP's server.

Mail To Windows Live Mail - Import Incomplete

Jan 6, 2010

I have - quite stupidly, as I now think - installed Windows Seven on my old Vista on my Laptop without thinking about the Mail program at all. That is: neither did I make a backup nor did I export contact lists from Windows Mail, etc.

I was, however, able to import most of the stuff from Windows Mail into Windows Live Mail anyway. I took ownership of both Windows Mail folders (in C:Program Files and C:Program Files(x86) including subs 'n files, and tried the import function in Windows Live Mail - three times, I think.

I can't really tell whether or not all my messages are there, yet I can say for sure that what I find in the Storage Folders section in Windows Live Mail reproduces only a part of the filing system I had established in Windows Mail. That is to say: A lot of the folders I used to have in Windows Mail are simply missing. Are the messages that used to be in there missing, too? No idea so far... they might be in the Inbox or somewhere else.

To be sure, I have everything, that is: all my messages, on my webmail-account. Yet it took me forever to work out my huge filing system (including all the message rules, etc.) in Windows Mail which allows me to have more folders than my webmail account that is for some reason limited to 258 folders. So even although I know that in the end I do have all the messages on my webmail, I would just hate to have to do all that work again! Thus I'd just love to "simply" get my Webmail stuff imported as it was.

Any ideas what I might have done wrong? ...what I could do to retrieve the missing folders?

Alternatively: Is there any way to "simply" (I know what you're thinking...) reactivate Windows Mail in Windows 7 so that I can start over by properly exporting everything from there?

I have found some related topics but did not see anyone having this particular problem. If I simply overlooked it, sorry! At any rate: I'd appreciate any help you can offer!

Windows Mail Messages Into Live Mail

Nov 19, 2009

I upgraded my wife's computer from Vista to Windows 7 yesterday. Before starting the process I copied old Vista info to a second drive. I did not realize that Windows 7 did not utilize Windows Mail before starting the upgrade process (dummy me!).

In proceeding through the Dell provided upgrade disks, I selected Upgrade as my option.

Now, I am not able to Import my old Windows Messages into Windows Live Mail. The upgrade process created a folder called Windows.old and I have my separately saved Vista info on my other drive. My question is if the old Windows Mail messages are there specifically what folder do they reside in either of the two (or both) locations, and how do I get them into my Live Mail history.

Seems like there should be a way to do this, but it is not as simple as the canned instructions for importing e-mail.

Troubles Transferring Windows Mail Vista To Windows 7 Windows Live Mail 2011

Apr 22, 2011

MS and their mail systems are giving me grief. I have a Vista 32 PC using "Windows Mail" and want to transfer email folders (lots) and messages to Windows 7 using Windows Live Mail 2011.Windows Mail was a replacement for Outlook express on Vista.Windows Live Mail 2011 is a replacement for Windows Mail on Windows 7.I tried a couple of things.

1) Basic Export and ImportI exported relavent files: Account info, Contacts and all the messages to a folder (in Windows Mail format) on old computer and used the old "Addias" transfer - copied folder to stick and RAN it over to the new computer.
- Imported (using the Windows Mail format) the Account info successfully,
- imported the Contact info successfully.
- Import Messages - appeared at first to be successful

Issue: Message folders appear to be renamed and some folder names have been truncated, not all folders appear to be there. (Looks like "long Name folders greater that 8 characters get truncated)

2) Tried the "Easy transfer mechanism (Vista and Win7 transfer utility) - but couldn't get the new computer to see the Vista even though I could see them on the network. I thought that this would transfer the folder names correctly.I'm about to try a time consuming effort of coping folder by folder (export/Import)What I am more concerned about is that the individaul messages may have the same issue Ie not all coming accross and subject names being lost. Looking for alternative or third party transfer solutions?

Blocking Mail In Windows 7 Mail?

Jun 1, 2012

OK, We all know that there are spam filters that you can use, but there also used to be rules that you could set up to block certain people or domains or even words in an email that you could select to block unwanted mail in earlier versions of Windows.First you can supposedly block domains but it doesn't work, there are no more rules (that I can see) that you can set in windows mail anymore. What happened to these features? Do they still exist and I just can't find them? or did some Genius remove them?

Optional Update In Windows Update Is Giving A Blue Screen

nvidia - Graphics adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.2, Other hardware - NVIDIA GeForce GT 425M.

After installing it, whenever my laptop tries to use the Nvidia card, I get a blue screen and the system restarts. I looked in installed updates to uninstall it, and it is not there. I did a system restore to four days before I installed it, and I still get the same effect. Lastly, I installed some older nvidia drivers that used to work using the clean install option, and I still have this problem.

Unable To Update Using Windows 7 Update (Code 8000FFFF Error)?

Oct 30, 2012

A while back, after successfully downloading and installing some updates in the Windows Update, it prompted me to restart the computer to finish the update installation process. However, I continued to use the computer for quite some time before restarting it, and then when it tried to configure the updates on the start-up screen, it showed that it was not successful in doing so. In the past, I noticed that this would typically happen when I did not restart the computer immediately (or within a short time) after the updates finished and I got the prompt to restart. I would have to go to Windows Update and do it over again, and then upon immediate restart, it would always work properly. But this time, it did not, and I keep getting the 8000FFFF error message instead.

Also, now, every time I start the computer, it shows that it's "Preparing to configure Windows... Do not shut off computer" (presumably the updates that never got completely and correctly configured) in the start-up screen... gets to 35%..fails... shuts down (screen goes black)... restarts again... tries to configure again, fails again, shuts down and restarts again... tries to configure again, fails again, and finally it apparently gives up and says "reverting changes" and finally goes to the desktop.I've looked at the answers in several threads at the answers.microsoft.com forum that were started by people with similar problems, and also tried several of the Microsoft "FixIt" files on the Microsoft site, but none of them worked. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium.

Importing Mail Accounts From Live Mail To Outlook 2007

The problem is that now, when I try to "Import internet mail account settings" from Windows Live Mail to Outlook it just answers "No internet accounts were found to import". How come?
