I am trying to set up a mail account on my new laptop. I have completed the screens with information from my ISP but still when I try to e-mail Iget the response invalid username or password.
View 4 RepliesI have a 1 TB external hard drive connected to my network. I would like to back up my laptop and setup automatic backup on a weekly basis to this drive like I have done with my desktop. However, the damned thing keeps asking me for a username and password that I did NOT set up on the computer that has the hard drive connected directly into it. When I use my Windows username and password for the computer the drive is connected to, it tells me it is invalid. So what, exactly, is the password if that isn't it? I have password protection turned OFF on my network, so it shouldn't even ask me for one.

Checked the settings in Tools / Accounts / Server Tab. Entered the user name / password as per the Server Tab but the box keeps on appeating again and I can't send email out using Windows mail. I can receive emails.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI kept getting an error message ("invalid user name or password") everytime I tried to enter in my user name and password to get access to my email with Windows Vista on my new computer. After an exhaustive effort to solve the problem with my ISP and with HP (including deactivating Windows Vista Firewall and shield and uninstalling my spy and virus software and then reinstalling Vista) I contacted Microsoft and paid a well spent $60 and they quickly resolved the problem. Here's what I had to do to make it work.
Open Mail, go to Tools, and then Accounts, click Add and created an E-mail account. (Type "POP3" in the field "My incoming mail server is a server." Under "Incoming mail (POP3):" type: pop.(your service provider), mine is "suddenlink.net" so it reads "pop.suddenlink.net." Under "Outgoing mail (SMTP):" type "smtp." and your service provider, mine is "suddenlink.net" so it reads "smtp.suddenlink.net." Next, and this is where I goofed, under "Incoming Mail Server" it asks for your "E-mail username:". Put your FULL EMAIL ADDRESS not just the name before "@." Mine reads dsjaggers@suddenlink.net. Then enter in your password (that you gave your internet service provider) in the "Password:" field.{And I checked the box "Remember password" so I don't have to do that every time I go to get my email.} Then MAKE SURE to check the box under "Outgoing Mail Server" that says beside it "My server requires authentication.")
How do I reset my username and password on windows mail? It will not let me send or receive my mail. It wants me to verify that both are correct for my mail server. I've tried every username and password that I've ever used. I'm pullin' my hair out here! Can't think of anything else to do.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI cant send emails because, WM wont accept my username and password. as i click send, it asks me for these. i type them in and the verification window disappears and comes back again. jus completely ignores my details so i press cancel and i dont even get an error message, how annoying? my server settings are correct, oh and i can recieve emails fine. i even change my outgoing settings to the same as my ingoing and it makes no difference.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have noticed that this topic has been posted more than once and I have read some of them. I have removed Norton Internet Security 2009. I have removed my e-mailaccounts and reset them. I have reinstalled Norton and nothing works. Everytime I want receive and/or send mail, Windows Mail asks for my username and password. Even when Norton wasn't installed Windows Mail didn't remember, so I don't think Norton is causing this problem.

I was asked for my username and password (that doesn't usually happen), and then it would not accept my username and password. View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Vista Home Premium on an Acer Laptop and all was fine until I decided to change my user password. I had or have (who knows now at this stage) an Administrator,User and HDD password installed on my machine. I went into my setup and changed my user password from set to clear but left my other passwords at set. when I exited and saved changes and rebooted I could not get back in with any and all passwords. To make things worse I cannot boot from cd either. It goes to press <F2> go to setup , Enter Current Password: ? then Invalad password I have tried the F10, F12, Del, F5, F8 keys and nothing seems to get past that login screen. Does anyone have any inexpensive suggestions on how I can get into this computer, or how I can get to a command prompt. Can I un-solder the internal Battery and then re attach it.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Windows Live Mail account and a Yahoo account and they both show up on the left hand side of my Window Live Mail account so I can choose which account I want to use or, for example, which inbox to look in. At the bottom, also on the left hand side of my Windows Live Mail account, it shows 'Add e-mail account', which is what I want to do with a new 'AOL' account and I want it to show on the left hand side like the two other accounts.
So I made a new AOL e-mail account, clicked 'Add e-mail account' at the bottom of my 'Windows Live Account', then I put in my new AOL e-mail account and password where it showed me. Then I clicked next.
The next page was all about my email server. When I did this before with a new e-mail account, it was all filled out automatically for me, but this time, all the blanks were left open and I have no idea what to fill in. I believe once I have this information, the AOL e-mail account will automatically then show on the left hand pane of my Windows Live Mail account below the other two accounts.
Vista has taken upon itself to invalidate my admin password on startup or when changing users. Fortunately my wifes account is also admin so i can login with hers and remove my password to gain access to my account. I have even created a new admin account for myself which worked OK for a day or two before it succumbed to the same problem. My wifes account is so far unaffected. Is there an easy fix or should I be very worried? This all seems to have started since I lost the internet (changing provider).

Just recently bought a new HP PC which comes with XP, I then selected not to backup and proceeded to install vista which was successful. Unfortunately it asks for a username and a password which I do not have! Playing FarCry 2 will have to be put on hold for the time being, Oh well, c'est la vie

Windows Mail worked correctly for 1 year. I did not have the "password won't
save" problem at all.
McAfee Security Center was uninstalled and debris removal was performed
because I dislike McAfee (which came installed on the the computer.)
Avast Pro was installed because I like it.
Now, I have the Windows Mail "password won't save" problem. When I look at
the Account Properties, there's nothing in the password box. When I enter
the password and click Remember Password, check email, I get the popup
requesting username password. If I enter the info there, mail is received
and can be sent. Next time, it asks for username/pw again.
I have deleted the account, closed Windows Mail, recreated the account -
same problem.

I have registered on this website and have not been able to log onto the site for which I've registered. I can access the site but when I attempt to use my username and password Windows Vista does not recognize the username and password I entered. I've reset the password and this program (Windows Vista) does not allow it to work for some reason. I can access the site and log on from any other computer but not my own computer. I have deleted the browsing history in an attempt to remove any stored info on the pc but that doesn't seem to work either.
