I have a folder that was named something random like fsad3ld567g. I was able to rename the folder anything I wanted to. I renamed it to op The two files in it are update.exe and updatexx.dll or something close. When I tried to delete either one of them I get access denied. I also ran the command line and tried to remove the directory.

I noticed my Documents folder has been renamed Desktop. It shows up as Desktop on the start menu. When I open my user file, Desktop shows up twice. One is empty and the other has my stuff in it. I can not rename it back to Documents.

View 5 Replies View Relatedi have videos on my laptop and i renamed one of them, i renamed all of them before so this is the first time this has happened, anyway now it doesn't auto play i use VLC media player to play my movies (.avi) on all of them. now after rename i have to manualy click what application to play the file. the option at the bottom that says use this program for all video files or somthing like that is grayed out so im a bit stumped.

I was trying to save a file in Adobe Reader, but typed the filename too fast before the "save as" dialogue box was fully loaded. As you can see below, my stupid document folder got renamed instead to "A". I've been searching and searching, but can't find a way to rename it back to my original username. Clicking on it still gets me to c:usersayzone which is good.
I imported emails from to WM from Outlook 2007 on vista. The problem is that WM has renamed all email attachments to old 8.3 form (plus converting all embeded JPG pictures to attachment). What can I do to have the attchments untoched after import.

I download them from my camera fine and it comes with the normal P20200015 or whatever code. When I rename the file (within the folder I create) it then puts my pictures into alphabetical order instead of leaving them in the order they're in. How do I keep them in chronological order when I rename them without having to remember what order they were in and change them back by drag and drop?

My initial problem after the upgrade was the BSOD in 32-bit Vista blaming the file "amdlld.sys." I booted into safe mode and renamed the amdlld.sys file. Now the machine boots up fine with no BSOD. My question is: is there any Microsoft Vista 32bit system files needed for the new X4 that I need to install? (the AMD website only shows processor drivers for Windows XP and Server 2003. . .but nothing for Vista) The reason I ask: while my system appears to be working fine. . .the Winrar benchmarks do not reflect the scores of a typical AMD quad core CPU (about 1350). Instead, I am getting around 350. Something is missing here. But what?

So the top level folder 'date modified' is the latest date. Current, in Windows, even the inside sub-folder is updated, the top level folder date is not changed.
How do I make the top folder's Date Modified reflect the latest modified dates of any items inside the sub-folder? That is if any inside item inside multiple levels of sub-folder is modified and updated, how can I make the Date Modified updated for all the upper levels folders, or just the top level folder?
Just googled this forum and am so thankful it is out here! Here's my situation: I am in the Army and have an issue with file encryption. I am knowledgable in computers (OS's, software, hardware) but lack any encryption smarts! We recently updated to WIN VISTA Enterprise. We also log into each computer using our ID cards that contain our personal keys or codes on them in the form of a chip. Recently, DOD directed that all its computers will have an encrypted folder on the desktops and that all data with sensitive info. be placed into that folder. I complied with the regulation and proceeded to place my MS OUTLOOK.PST and personal email file.PST into the folder. The next day I went to replace my expired ID Card. I came into work, logged onto my laptop, and could not (and still cannot) access my personal email folder that is encrypted.
Several peeps from our D.O.I.M. (Directorate Of Information Management) have tried and now they tell me its locked forever because my old ID card was used to encrypt it. I have the old key available (the Army actually backed that up for me) and have tried accessing my personal email file using that key to no avail. (It was a lengthy process and I can't remember all the steps but we did use the old key but apparently it will NOT work with my new ID Card) Is there a way to decrypt this file? The Army is out of ideas!
That is the message I get from the icon in my Vista tray. When I try to manually check for Windows Updates I get the message that I need to "first install an update for Windows Update". When I try to install that update for Windows Update, I get error code 80070643. There is a lot written about Windows Update error 80070643 having specifically to do with restarting the Office Source Engine for Microsoft Office 2003. HOWEVER, I do not have Microsoft Office 2003 installed on my system and this is not my issue! I am quite fearful at this point that I am vulnerable to all sorts of attacks considering that I haven't updated Vista for about 6 months now. This is not good.
View 6 Replies View RelatedAs far as I can determine, this update (released 22Oct08) does not work, at least not with Windows Vista Home Premium. I had update 7 running, and got an update notification for Release 10 earlier today. Downloaded and installed the update, tried the Java test page, Firefox (both 3.0.3 and today's Minefield beta-test for Firefox 3.1) hung. Tried the update in IE7, that, too, hung.
Went to Control Panel, clicked on the Java icon, had some problems opening it; when it did finally open, I went into Advanced and found that Update 10 was not recognizing IE. Opened IE, redownloaded the off-line update, to see if that worked; answer is, no, it still did not recognize IE. Back to Java, found the off-line installed for Update 7, removed 10, reinstalled 7; Java works once again. In the midst of this aggravation, trying to figure out what the problem was, I did find one link to an article that said Update 10 had been delayed due to some unspecified problem. Seems to me that, at least for Vista Home Premium, there is still at least one unspecified problem with Update 10.
when going to the windows update window,i get a white blank page and it says "the page failed to load"i did restart, same issue.

View 4 Replies View RelatedThe last time an update was installed was in January..since the next time i was offered an update, Windows Update or any of the programs that use windows update fail to update. Also i can't download the updates manually..standalone msu installers also dont work.. windows defender, IE8 installations also fail to update. And unfortunately i have deleted the recent system restore checkpoints before i knew about this problem. Windows Update gives error 80070002, i have tried the "solution" to delete temp update files, and all other solutions i could find on the internet. Windows defender gives the same error.
The updates can be downloaded from windows update, but cannot be download (not even manually in .msu package) I also lost many shortcut files of MS Office (the icon turned white and they lost their target). Some shortcuts of 3rd party programs are also lost (which were supposed to be in c:windowsinstallerlabla I have Windows Vista Home Basic with SP1 (SP1 came with the ssytem when i bought it). This is very weird. I have no other choice than to reformat drive and use recovery disk.
how to set up the folder options to display the number of subfolders or items when its selected. It used to display in the bottom of the folder window but got disabled. Any folder clicked on would display in a small footer the number of items stored in in and size.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have several icons/files from my "User" folder showing up in the "Computer" folder (several in duplicate), PLUS numerous blank icons. This seems to have occurred after the Common Files folder became corrupted, after I somewhat riskily decided to power off while Vista was attempting to come out of Sleep mode - it had already taken about 3 mins and I was in a hurry - bad move, I know. That delay appears to have been due to an old version of Online Armor, and has now been fixed (by an update). Chkdsk scanned and (apparently) corrected some errors, and I also ran SFC which said it had corrected some errors but had also found some that it couldn't correct.

For some reason,my Program Files directory has been changed to the Photos directory type, so it changed from the details like file type, size, etc., to rating, photo size, etc.I cannot figure out how to change the directory back to a General file folder type. I have D:Folder1
I can rename Folder1 to whatever I want.
E.g it will appear as D:NewFolder
However the dir location of it still points to D:Folder1
I have also scanned the registry for D:Folder1 and D:NewFolder there are no references of it. I've reformatted the C: drive multiple times and reinstalled windows. So I know it's nothing to this specific windows installation (the folders have been like this for about a year) It's not really a problem, I love it because I can rename the folder without messing up links etc. At first I thought it might be a junction, however in cmd it still shows as <Dir> not <Junction> I also checked for hidden folders on the drive. I found nothing.
When I put e.g. documents in my publick folder, do they appear automatically in the private folder too? Do I really need 2 folders to see all my docs in vista?

The possible causes are not the problem. I have 2 gig memory and it was working fine when I only had 1 gig of memory. Disk space, I have over 90 gig of free space.

I found the answer once before in one of the forums, but can't remember where it was. And why does this happen? View 3 Replies View Relatedhow i can get this darn EZStickyNotes folder to stop returning t oMyDocuments folder every month after i delete it!Also,i found last month an EZListings.BSA that may or may not be related in c:/administrator/appdata/local/temp. This is getting old and i want to know how to get rid of these items permanently. I understand from barman58 in a seperate thread from awhile back, EZStickyNotes folder appears out of nowhere in Documents folder! that the ezstickynotes folder has something to do with a shareware program he gave a link to. How it got there is a mystery to me since i didn't install it, but some program installed it,apparently,and didn't leave any way for me to uninstall it if i didn't want it. I searched my computer for the easy sticky note program, but it isn't on my computer. I always do a scan of my computer with avast,malwarebytes, superantispyware,and windows defender after finding the ezstickynotes folder for viruses, etc and it always comes up clean.
View 5 Replies View RelatedThe contents of My documents folder is displayed in my computer folder, some icons are double and a whole lot of other white icons "empy" files, see screenshot 1. Screenshot 2:
- Right clicking, double clicking on the white files does nothing
- Cannot select them and delete
- Opening a folder takes me to that folder (If i open "Pictures" it takes me to C:UsersNotandiPictures)
- Deleting a folder there deletes it from My Documents too
EDIT: These direcotries are also displayed in the SEND TO: menu, exactly the same as in my computer, but no the empty white files. See screenshot 2
