my grandmas pc can't seem to solve. I'm getting a no signal message on the monitor when I power on the system. I've tried a different video cable, monitor, and even a new motherboard but I still get the same issue no matter what. The system is a HP Pavilion a6110n. Tried posting on their site but all they want you to do is take it in to have it serviced.

While playing any game, my monitor blinks off with a No Signal message and a few seconds later my computer finishes crashing and I have to reboot. I've replaced the graphics card, ram, and motherboard, and ensured all drivers are up to date, but I'm still getting the exact same issue. It only happens when playing games I can leave it running the desktop for as long as I want.

I have a Viewsonic LCD monitor. i just put a new pc together with an XFXForce 8600GT video card. The problem is when i boot the pc i see the bios screen fine. it's not until i see 'Micrsoft Corporation' and am about to see the status bar going back and forth that the screen goes blank and i then see 'No sginal'. I'm connected using a DVI-I cable. If i unplug the cable from either the card or monitor and plug it back in i then get video. I sent the monitor to Viewsonic which they said they fixed a problem. hmmm anyway i'm still seeing this proble. If i use a VGA cable with a DVI adapter i won't have this problem. While the LCD monitor was away i used an old CRT monitor with a VGA cable and had no problem.

I've recently bought a new rig and decided to go with Vista Enteprise 64-bit version on it. I currently have a 30" Dell monitor and a 19" Packard Bell Maestro 190W setup that I used on my previous XP rig. Now, when I try to use my PB Maestro 190" Screen on the Vista machine, I get no signal. I can detect the monitor through the ATI Catalyst program but it cant it to work. The monitor works and shows stuff when I reload the computer, but it goes "No signal" just when Vista Loads...
I have downloaded Powerstrip and another monitor program to try and force it to 1440x900 settings, but still no signal.. Even wrote my own drivers for the screen with a fixed resolution 640x) but no luck. I plugged in my LCD TV instead and it worked like a charm! So i quickly switched the cables between the second 19" monitor and the TV and bam! I got the second monitor up and running! But I had to reload the computer and I lost the output, tried several times again to repeat the procedure with plugging in the TV and then the monitor.. no luck...

I have just puchased my first Windows Vista computer - an HP laptop. I have purchased at leat five laptops since 2000 so I am familiar with setup and
comfortable with installations etc. I have three questions here.
1. My last computer had Windows XP and an 80 gb hard drive with 70 gb full - After copying the data only (55 GB) to my new 250 gb hard drive I have only 107 GB remaining of the 222 GB C drive partition. I have not yet added many programs. That tells me that Vista must be using 50-60 GB or more of the drive. Can that be correct?
2. My new computer takes 5-6 minutes to start up. After two minutes I get the welcome screen. Then the monitor goes black for a full two minutes before continuing the startup process. Is this normal for Vista?
3. Occasionally the monitor goes dark for a few seconds and a window pops up saying the display driver has failed but is back. Is this normal?
I certainly gained no speed with this new computer. There are many things I like about Vista. Since I have no previous experience with owning it I am trying to sort out if this computer is a lemon that should be returned or if I should just put up with the downside.

On a dual monitor system, is it possible to choose which monitor displays a program at startup? If I put a shortcut to Internet Explorer in the startup folder, can I tell it to start the program on monitor 1 or monitor 2?

When I boot up my PC it goes all the way to the loading screen (the progress bar) and then monitor goes blank and system reboots. I choose to start in safe mode (from the selection), it starts all good. Then I restart the PC and it boots well without any problems. However, next time I shut down, I have to go through the whole process again. Sometimes I see "dumping physical memory" with a blue screen, sometimes I don't. I THINK it has something to do with my video drivers, but I updated to the latest catalyst drivers and still same thing.

I run Vista on a laptop and have a 2nd monitor hooked up via a docking station. I set my 2nd monitor (i.e. not the laptop screen) as my main monitor, however, after every restart Vista always reverts back to the Laptop as the main monitor. How can I stop Vista reverting backto the Laptop as the main monitor? (This happens aven though at no stage have I un-docked the laptop!)

I have an HP Media pc with dual ViXS PureTV-U48B0 tuner, and I have it configured in Media Center for ATSC only. All of the local on-air digital stations are received well, except the local PBS. The Media Center does not detect any signal for that PBS station no matter how I position my digital antenna. If I connect a tv directly to the same antenna feed, the tv detects a strong signal for the PBS station and receives broadcasts fine. I have the most up-to-date driver for the tuner card in the pc.
I saw a note on HP's site that Media Center may not work with some more recent DT compression formats. When I downloaded MediaPortal and installed it on the same PC, it detected the PBS station perfectly, but one of the other local DT stations that Media Center played well was not detected at all, plus Media Portal is not as user friendly.

Got a new laptop (VISTA) and already have a wireless router (netgear) in the house. We connected the laptop wirelessly with no problems yesterday and this morning. Then, out of the blue, I get a "limited connectivity" message even though the signal strength is excellent. Our wireless network is the only one that's listed "connect automatically" and we were connected to it yesterday and this morning with no problems.

I added a second monitor to the GeForce 7100 GS using a DVI-VGA adapter and for the life of me cannot get it to display anything, the monitor is just in sleep mode. I've got the latest driver, Windows is up to date, checked the cables, tried another adapter, tried everything but, still nothing. The second monitor shows up in the device manager and in the Nvidia control panel. It's enabled and set to extend desktops. It seems the system knows it's there because I can move the mouse over, but cannot see anything. The power light on the second monitor just flashes. I've swapped monitors over, to make sure there's not a problem with the display and it's fine. When I do that, the main monitor is then plugged in to the DVI adapter and then that one goes to sleep. Just seems whichever monitor is plugged in to the DVI-VGA adapter just doesn't want to work........

i have only one monitor, and somehow it is being treat as though its the secondary monitor in a dual monitor set up. i cannot view my start menu, or view any programs being opened, as when i try to open them, they presumeably open on the phantom primary monitor. even when i try to open display settings, i cannot see the box. i am able to move my mouse to the left border of the screen and move it off into oblivion, and occasionally drag random folders and short cuts over to view.

Today, my sidebar is on my main monitor and no mater what I do it won't go back to monitor-2, no mater what the setting is in the sidebar properties. What is going on here?

I am running Vista 64 and installed a program which apparently had a virus or I got it using IE8. I found an entry in the start up tab that was causing a problem. I went into the registry and deleted the item from the startup tab and I also disabled it in the startup tab. The startup tab still shows the item even though it is disabled and deleted from the registry. Why does it still show in MSCONFIG and how do I delete it from the start up entry

I'm having trouble getting my USB EasyCap Video Capture to work on my HP laptop running Vista Home Premium X 32 bit. The Ulead software appears to be installed ok. I wonder, if the driver on the Ulead disk any good? I read that maybe an Stk1160 driver should replace the old driver.(?) When I try to use this through the TV, I get the message "no signal found". The Ulead disk is dated 2006. Is there an update to this disk?

I know this isn't a Graphics Card related thing, but it is the closest I can get.
At the moment I have a Hyundai ImageQuest Q17, and I think it's way to small, that's why I will be doing a student job in the Summer Vacation, what screen do you guys recommend? Here are a few things it should have.
- Good brand, a brand you can trust.
- Widescreen
- 19' or up
- NO reflecting screen
- DVI
- Compatible with Vista
What do you guys recommend?

Recently I have bought a gaming PC, and after a few hours of such
gaming, my monitor goes to sleep, the PC is still running and I can
still be playing my game. just without a monitor!
The only way to get the monitor to work is to restart the PC.
Any ideas what the problem could be? At first I suspected an
overheating Graphics card, but could it be other things? could it be a
RAM problem? what could cause this? Has anyone else had this problem?
I would like to make it very clear that it is not a problem with Vista,
or its power settings, as the computer remains runnings. It is also very
unlikely to be the monitor as I bought it new yesterday.

Been having a monitor issue lately ever since I installed SP2 for Vista 64bit. Sometimes when I turn the PC on the monitor goes into immeadiate sleepode (the power button blinks). I don;t even see the BIOS boot screen....nothing...just black.
I sometimes can hear windows loading but nothing is on the screen. At other times I don't hear Windows loading at all.
I'm thinking it's a BIOS problem or maybe even a MB problem.
I would appreciate some help on this. I've never had this problem before SP2
Weirdness continues....managed to get some sort of display happening only to be told my windows system files are corrupted and that I need to do a repair...which I am doing now after several attempts to get the BIOS to boot from the DVD drive
Well I bit the bullet and restarted the PC...dissapointed to say that it's didn;t work.
It seems like the BIOS isn;t loding any basic video nor is windows.
Sometimes it just doesn;t even seem to be booting into BIOS at all.

I just bought a new Samsung LCD monitor with native resolution of 1920x1080 pixels that provides nice sharp display on my older XP desktop, but a pretty mediocre one as an external monitor on my newer HP notebook. Both systems use nVidia graphics cards, though not identical models. The XP uses GeForce4 MX 4000 card and the Vista notebook came
with GeForce Go 6150 (UMA) chip. I wonder if Vista may have something to do with the poorer display or the different nVidia chip alone. I assumed the Go 6150 was a more capable chip and if anything, I expected even a better performance from it. In both cases the display res is set to 1920x1080 at 60 Hz, but the text display from the notebook looks pretty lousy.

I have a Viewsonic 28" LCD monitor (model vx2835wm) which is pretty good, but not the greatest quality to say the least. It is 1080p supported too.
However, I need something of better quality. My question is the monitor *must* have 1900x1080 resolution specifically to be 1080p supported correct, even if it offers higher resolution options?
Example:
Dell 27" UltraSharp Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor
Higher resolutions, 1920x1200 too, but not 1920x1080 specifically. Would this be a bad idea for Blu-Ray movies (my Sony laptop has a built in Blu Ray player)?

I got a small problem which is to extend my desktop into second monitor. I used to do that in windows XP it was so simple, how ever it seems I got hard time doing it on Vista even thought I never did it on vista before. I went to Control Panel > Personalization > Display settings, it shows only 1 monitor and saying "(Multiple Monitors) on NVIDIA..." I'm using Vista-64Bit. And on SLI mode and plugged the 2 monitors on the same graphic card. I tried Ultramon 3.0.3 but there still a problem, Ultramon detects only one monitor when I'm trying to use the second. I've been trying to do it in Nvidia software. How ever I ended up switching between monitors only. I tried to search around and ask around for more than 4 hours, And still no good.
