View 4 RepliesI lost media player icon and could not access the player, but when I put a DVD in, it came back. Now I am afraid to exit because I have no icon to be able to call up the programme again. Do I have to resort to inserting a DVD every time? Won't work with a CD (defaults to Itunes)
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I play a movie in media player 11, I get the sound but no picture- just a black screen. I'm pretty sure it worked a couple months ago - could one of the windows automatic updates changed a setting?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently did a system re-build, as per my specs. I've been having awful crackling and sound stutters which sometimes appear to be causing lag spikes in games too. (Having said that, I get it even when doing simple taks like listening to music or watching movies on iTunes/Windows Media Player.) I've done all the usual things like updating to the latest BIOS/drivers, but still it won't go away. I've moved the sound card to another PCI slot and checked there's no IRQ conflicts too...

All media files play normally on other players. I have to state that sometimes I get the message: "The file.... The parameter is incorrect".
I'm new to vista and i'm just wondering...just media center require media player to work? If not is it possible to remove wmp11? On that note, is it also possible to remove IE7? As I am a devoted Firefox user

When I unplug my computer from the back to move to another room I lose my sound and I have to restart my computer to get it back. Can anybody help me to stop this from happening or how to fix without restarting my computer.
After installing SP1 my background and icons were distorted and I lost sound. I immediately uninstalled SP1 and things seemed to return to normal. Do I really need it?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI cannot now open any wav file with Medic Player. The shortcut on the start menu does not start Media Player. If I go to the directory that contains the media player exe files and click on any one of them (e.go. wmplayer.exe, wmlaunch.exe, wmpshare.exe, morph.exe etc. ).nothing happens. Also I recently noticed that email containing Power
Point formats do not open.
I don't know if they are related but a couple of weeks ago I down loaded from the Microsoft site programs for reading the newer versions of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.
I have tried to find the Media Player software on the Microsoft site thinking I could reinstall it but all I can find is updates to it. I don't even know what version of Media Players I have. I am using Vista, with all current patches.
In my status bar, pop ups continued to pop up, stating that i just unplugged a device from the driver, then it would tell me i plugged it back in, all the time doing nothing remotely close to these insane accusations, i continued without really worrying about it. until i actually lost my sound, and it went crazy with those pop ups. so i uninstalled the driver, reboot, installed new driver from realtek, and it worked for like 4 hours, then no sound again. uninstalled driver, reboot, install, reboot, no sound, and i am apparently continuously unplugging the jack like a madman. so, another uninstall, reboot, but this time i install the driver from the cd i got with my pc (dell inspiron 530s-120b)......................
View 4 Replies View RelatedRecently, after an unsuccessful attempt to upgrade to Windows 7, my reinstalled Vista Home Premium 64bit, after operating normally for a while, lost sound completely. I cannot pinpoint the event that prompted this malfunction and instead of trying to toubleshoot the onboard Realtek High Definition Audio, I installed a Diamond Xreme Sound 5.1 card running a C-Media Electronic driver ver. 6.12.8.1737, which is the latest for this sound card. The sound card worked fine, after a restart, producing rich sound via Logitech's X-210 2-speaker-plus subwoofer system. As long as I kept the system on Sleep, the sound worked fine. As soon as I turned the computer off for the night last night, the system reloaded with no sound playing whatsoever.
I have disabled the onboard Realtek High Definition Audio under Device Manager as well as the ATI High Definition Audio Device that appeared after I installed a Gigabyte HD 5770 graphics card BEFORE I installed the sound card. The only active audio devices now are the C-Media PCI Audio Device (Diamond sound card) and the Logitech Mic QuickCam S7500. Under Sound in the Control Panel, the only playback device is Speakers that are checked and are reported OK by the system as part of the Diamond sound card. Under Recording, the following devices appear: C-Media Microphone currently unavailable Line-In C-Media Audio Device (speakers) checked and working C-Media Aux device currently unavailable C-Media CD player currently unavailable C-Media Stereo Mix currently unavailable C-Media Wave currently unavailable Logitech Mic Working Under Sounds Play Windows Startup sound is checked. After installing the latest C-Media driver and restarting the computer, I receive faint sound from one of the Logitech speakers with volume turned to 100 pc. But no stereo, strong sound....!
I like using Media Player 11 for Vista, but currently every time I try to open up the Media Player, I see the Hour glass, it goes away, and nothing opens.

We have a security camera that takes a short video when motion activated. The file is then emailed to the tech guys. I cannot view the video. It opens Windows Media player and then just sits there with a blank screen. I can use XP and the file plays just fine, just not on my Ultimate computer.
First of all I'm on vista home basic, second of all wmp was already installed on my pc when I received it. Lastly, it's always had this problem When I click on a mp3/avi/any wmp associated file it will launch the file audio, I can hear it BUT wmp doesn't open, I have to manually launch wmp before I can stop the file or do anything else.
I googled the problem many times and tried solutions but never got anywhere. I reset the assiociated files, I've checked for updates , I've run out of ideas. I was even going to unistall and reinstall it. Yet I can't seem to get a vista version from the microsoft webpage ?! So I don't want to uninstall it and loose it, or even try using wmp 10
instead, I'm worried it will mess up my machines default settings and/or media center!
Each time I put an audio CD into the cd drive Window Media Player comes alive and starts to play it. Many times I just want to rip the CD onto my MP3 player with software that comes with the MP3 player. I'll even have the ripping software loaded and ready to view the first Cd into the drive but Media Player still jumps ion over everything and starts playing the Cd. Is there some way I can make Media player just stay still until I want it and launch it myself?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI got the following message when playing DVDs on Vista home premium with Windows Media Player. The same problem happens to media center. Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card. I can play those DVDs on PowerDVD or VLC player. I installed K-Lite codec. It still doesn't work. It looks like it is not codec problem.

All of the issues with IE7 crashing, Media Player Crashing, I am going to attribute to the ASUS P5N32 E SLI motherboard I was using. It just blue screened and died 2 days ago after forcing me to re-activate a 3rd time with the same board.
I have a Builders OEM of Ultimate 32 bit. My biggest problem is will my copy of Vista still be valid for a change out? I tried ASUS for the first time in 12 years instead of Intel. That would seem to have settled my curiosity for good. The board didn't even last 6 months on stock settings and normal to low use............
When I attempt to open media player or open a media file WMP11 fails to start, no error messages or anything in the event log. So far the only option appears to be available is to reinstall Vista, this is ridiculous as a fix I would rather install a third party media player.
View 5 Replies View Relatedi can't get media player to play dvd's it tells me to ''lower my resolution'' which is set at 1680 x 1050. i do this and nothing i take the resolution all the way to 800x600 and nothing gives me the same message so i surmized that their was another problem. I recently just upgraded my motherboard and ram and ended up having to rebuy vista as my computer was previously factory built.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to rip the music from a CD with media player. The CD has 27 songs, I was able to get the 1st 11, but on each of the rest it says ripping for about 10 - 15 minutes, then it says error and moves on to the next song. There is no explanation as to what the error is. I have tried rebooting and starting over with the unripped songs but they still will not rip. Would this work better with media center?
View 5 Replies View RelatedHbj2IHA.4004@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl> I recently bought a new Compaq Presario with Vista for my wife. I transferred some mpg files to it from this computer (XP) and tried to play them. A 9 minute file screeches through in about one second with only a weird audio noise like a robot talking into a tin can, and no video at all. So I installed GomPlayer on her computer and it plays the files perfectly. What do I need to do to get Media Player to play mpg files??
