My computer crashed and I'm trying to install Divx codec. I thought I only needed the codec but the file would not play so I downloaded all four components. Now it will play in the Divx player but as soon as I set WMP as my default I get a message the WMP does not support the file. They are all ..avi files. Just to test, I tried the same files on another PC and they play fine.

If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again." But, I already installed the DivX codec that the website I downloaded the clip from recommended and I tried restarting WMM.
I know that I did this before on my old computer. I downloaded videos from the same website, and I had to download the DivX codec. Once I downloaded the codec, the files worked, and i was able to download them. Does anyone know why it won't work for me now? Could it have anything to do with the files having been downloaded as zipped folders?
i have installed and updated all my drivers. i got IDT High Definition Audio CODEC. my problem is that my Volume Level in Control panel-Sounds-Recording-Microphone(Properties)-Level, goes down when ever my voice gets louder. is there a setting or a program i have to get through to make it not automatically lower it self? i Already Unclicked "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" from Exclusive Mode. this only happens on MSN and maybe other programs that are similar. but not on Ventrilo.

View 5 Replies View RelatedSo I have a issue with all media players causing lines in my media (and it flickers the lines so very annoying)I have the same issue in games but v-sync solves this issue on games. (FPS is above 100FPS in AA3/CS and so it jumps/causes the issue)....
Here is as screenshot of the issue. NOW this happens inside the player (if I make it smaller it wont do it on my desktop)So I thought v-sync issue so I downloaded nhancer and enabled it...didn't do anything. Real Media Player will do it but at the bottom (very bottom) I have the newest k-lite codec pack and that screenshot was from a DVD from my collection that I turned into a ISO on my PC.
lately my Media Player stopped playing DivX/XVid files. Prior to that I've installed PowerDVD in order to play a VOB file on my Vista machine. I think it is since then that the Media Player stopped functioning properly. Now I can play WMV/MP3 etc but not AVI. I've removed PowerDVD now; reinstalled DivX pack; reinstalled XVid codecs. Still no use.

Gives the usual "Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card" error. VLC plays DVDs just fine. All updates are installed up to SP2. Video card is ATI radeon 9600/9700 mobile with latest drivers (note, Vista WDDM drivers gave same error as did the "windows update" recommended driver - finally used catilyst to load newest 4/27/2009 drivers 8.593.100.0)... No other decoders or codecs are installed.......
View 6 Replies View RelatedJust reinstalled Vista (32) Untimate. Was haveing trouble installing SP1 and needed to get rid of a lot of junk so did a complete new install. Now WMP 11 will not play. Get a msg that says the following "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file." Get this msg when trying to play MP3, WMA and WMV's. Worked fine before reinstall. I tried ripping a track and it worked fine but after ripping would not play the file - rip both to MP3 and WMA. Downloaded Winamp and it works fine and plays all the files.

I downloaded some software from a company named X10. It's for monitoring security cameras from a remote location. The software is name Vangaurd. I'm trying to uninstall it but I keep getting "cannot open log install. log file". I notice there is not a folder for this in my program files, therefore I do not see an "unistall". Does anybody know how I can uninstall this? I am using Windows Vista.
View 9 Replies View RelatedA few days ago I got the following error....File: BootBCD. I found how to fix the problem from MS. It tells me to put the Windows Vista Disk in and restart computer. Now when I put the Vista Disk in it starts loading files and then I get a BSOD. I am able to boot a bootable CD and a floppy and even a copy of Windows XP which will start loading. I even brought a new hard thinking the one I had was bad. I have disconnected all my devices from the computer except for the montior.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have had the common problem on not being able to install KB938371 update which is one of the 3 prerequisites to downloading through Microsoft Update the SP1. I have tried all the tricks and suggestion published throughout the web except an in place reinstall of Vista Business. This is highly undesireable since my sony laptop will only reinstall Vista Business as per original with all the software originally shipped which is a pain to remove.
If I download the entire sp1 750mb file, will it install without the prerequsite files? I have read that the prerequisites were actually a compilation of sp1 files and not an actual update to Vista. This being the case, it seems that if the sp1 file were downloaded it would work.
for 2 days iv been really pulling my hair out with why i cant install a exe file.. I remember installing Registy Mechanic before hand and if i remember rightly a year or so ago i did the same thing but for the life of me i cannot remember why or what i did to sort it out! I have been trying to upgrade from Windows XP Tablet Edition to Vista Ultimate on my Travelmate C300 laptop. I purchased a download of this game from The Adventure Company website. All went well with the install until asked if I wanted to install DirectX 9.0. I chose to knowing that I have DirectX 10 on this system but had the following error message:
"Unble to execute File: C:programflile?can'treadmyownwriting?dreamfalldirectx dxsetup.exe Create process failed; code 740. The requested operation requires elevation." Then, when attempting to run the game, I get a message saying that D3DX9_27.DLL can't be found. The DX9 folder located in the Dreamfall folder is empty.
I uninstalled and reinstalled during which I snooped in the DirectX 9 folder (Dreamfall program files, directx folder) and found the missing .dll file and copied it to an empty folder in my documents prior to asking it to install DX9 of which the install again failed (and the DX folder emptied). I tried pasting the missing .dll into the Dreamfall folder and up came another error message when trying to run the game. I read that one could either paste d3dx9_27.dll into the sys32 folder or download & install DX9 from the Microsoft website but I'm scared to do so in case either of these solutions screws up DX 10.

View 9 Replies View Relatedi have a dell xps m1530 with vista home premium 32 bit (SP1). i recently tried to update to SP2 and ran into problems multiple times. i have tried installing both from windows update and from a separate file downloaded from the internet, and both times the installation aborted itself, saying either "error code B7" or "the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable". i've tried both re-downloading the file and turning off my security software, but neither has had any effect. has anyone else had this problem/know what i should do? i'd really like to update to SP2.
View 6 Replies View Relatedwhen i turn on my computer, an error message comes saying "Windows failed to load because a file is missing or corrupt File: Netio.sys Status: 0xc0000221" This started when i was clearing my computer of useless programs, and after i deleted Realtime player or Quicktime player, (can't remember which) an error message jumped from the taskbar saying something about Network device driver. After that every time i start the computer, the "Windows failed to load" message pops up. The first half a year, it was solved by pressing enter, to "Choose an operating system to start: Windows Vista" and then to "Windows error recovery (start windows normally, safe mode etc)" and back to "Windows failed to start", repeating it 3-20 times. Then i had a familiar "Unexpected shutdown" during a game, and now, the "Enter spamming technique" doesn't work anymore. All i can access at the moment is Windows memory diagnostic tool, and Bios setup utility. Is there any way to fix this through the setup utility or some other manner?

For example, if I want to search my C drive for all PDF files or all photos, the search function won't work without entering text from a file name (which doesn't work, because all files of a particular type don't necessarily share letters or characteristics in their names). Has anyone else experienced this problem, or am I missing something?

View 7 Replies View Relatedhere is a summary of the posts this poor guy had to go through to try and get his dvd working. imagine having to type cryptic commands into a terminal window. no wonder why ubuntu is so screwed up. ubuntu will never take over the desktop. ubuntu is prehistoric. here is the summary of the posts: i cannot get my dvd to play cds or dvds. a summary:
1. i have hardy running as a virtual file on a xp host.
2. cds and dvds play ok in windows although they do not autorun, i have to start them using the player,
3. i had the same fault with gutsy
4. i followed reassuringlyoffensive's guides and everything seemed to load without errors.
5. i tried gxine first. when i run the dvd i get a message "xine engine fails to start" then "read error from /dev/dvd"
6. i get sound when i log on and i am able to play videos, with sound,from Internet.
7. i installed hardy from a download, i was able to check for errors.
does the dvd any encryption/is it a commercial videodvd? sudo apt-get install lsdvd libdvdread3 libdvdread migth help. if not you will require to setup the medibuntu repos follow the howto, how to add the repo and get some additional dvd reading utilities sudo apt-get install libdvdcss2 non-free-codecs.....
I'm just about to have a substantial upgrade to my rig-new mobo+new case. All my other components will be transplanted.I've become aware of the LG GGC-H20L. This will apparently allow me to watch Blu Ray movies (and HD-DVD if I can find any) and is also a good DVD and CD writer. Also I can get it for just £66.So I was thinking of swapping out my existing Samsung DVD/CD writer for this unit but have several compatibility concerns.
I have a BFG 8800 GTS OC 512MB GPU. This card has a 2 DVI outputs but no HDMI output.I also have A Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP monitor which has loads of inputs including, I believe, an HDCP compliant HDMI input.So. Does anyone know whether I'll be able to watch Blu Ray movies on my PC using the LG unit through my GPU and into my monitor? I could get an adapter cable or maybe DVI would do? It would be great if anyone has this thing and could tell me if it's any good. I could keep my current DVD writer as there's plenty of room in the Cosmos S I'm getting but if the LG writes CDs and DVDs well I might as well pass it on to somebody who needs it.
