Folder Views Keeps Changing

Folder Views: Set Up The Folder Options To Display The Number Of Subfolders Or Items When Its Selected
Jun 2, 2008how to set up the folder options to display the number of subfolders or items when its selected. It used to display in the bottom of the folder window but got disabled. Any folder clicked on would display in a small footer the number of items stored in in and size.

Windows Explorer Doesn't Remember My Folder Views?
Oct 20, 2008About a week ago Windows Explorer was stopping from remember my folders view.. I have found a few tutorials but they was about Windows Explorer doesn't remember at all.. But in my problem it does, Just after 15 MIN it forget there view and returning to the default..
In Vista manager I have set the number of folders to 1000 and nothing!
few things:
- I have installed already SP1
- It's 32bit System
Forgetting Folder Views & Sticking New Files At The Top Of Folders
Jun 15, 2009Been using Vista (Ultimate, 64bit, SP1) for about three months now (only because I wanted to get acclimated to Windows' new look and feel for the eventual switch to Win7), and one of the first things I noticed was that a) it kept forgetting my folder views and b) it kept sticking my new files at the top of folders instead of the bottom. I just figured it was a "feature" and I looked around the net for a way to work around it, but never found one. I just tried to live with it until the other day a friend directed me to the tutorial Brink posted to make Vista remember (I don't even know how I missed it; I'm usually pretty proud of my Google Fu), and it made me incredibly happy. So I thought "Hey, there might be a fix of some sort for my other problem." The problem is, I can't remember the search query I used to get info for problem (b) the first time around and I couldn't get any decent results with the ones I was trying. So I decided for the direct approach and ask here.
So here's exactly what my problem is. Whenever I drop a file into a folder, or save a new file, Vista is always sticking it at the top of the folder. And not even as the first file, usually as the second. Now, if I happen to have that folder open when I save the file, sometimes it will put it at the bottom, sometimes not. I never had this problem with XP, and its pretty annoying since that's how I process and sort my files. Is there something I can do about this?
Folder Icons Constantly Changing
Dec 10, 2009I have a folder for all of my music and then subfolders for each type (country, random, etc).
When I go into one of the subfolders, my music is always listed in details.
I dont want it to, so I change it to view small icons.
If I then close the folder for several hours or even shut down/reboot, it goes back to the details.
I have since figured out how to change this by customizing the main folder, but it is now showing them in LARGE icons, which is just as annoying and keeps changing them back to large ones even after I switch it to small ones.

May 1, 2008When I run Windows Explorer, the Documents folder is open. More often than not, I want something within c:program files, so I have to scroll to that. Counting the click to close Documents, it takes four mouse clicks.Can I set it to open Program Files, and show all the subfolders beneath it? Perhaps a registry tweak or a freeware utility program?

Jun 15, 2008My question: can I simply install the 64 bit version over the current 32 bit? Can I just put the discs back into the machine and let Vista take it's course by ticking the 64 bit option when it appears on the load up screen?
Or, do I have to go through the entire process of re-formatting/wiping the drives and start from scratch? I am using the Ultimate version, and am not sure about these things.

Hard to find software to work on it, occassionally I can make something work by changing the compability mode or running as administrator. Had I known all this when I got the computer, I would not have bought it.
How much trouble (cost too) to have someone change from Vista 64 to Vista 32. I am guessing that entails new drivers etc. I am just a normal user, don't play games, only the granddaughter age 11 plays games like Nancy Drew. I have a 640GB hard drive which is way more than I ever needed. Was not aware of software issues like I can't use my Photo shop Sofware and other things I have.

Apr 24, 2009I currently own a Vista premium 64bit laptop.....I'm trying to install Empire total war, which requires Directx 10. In order to install that I need to activate .Net 3.0. I attempted to do this by going to Control Panel....Turn On/Off Windows Features....checked all of the boxed under .Net 3.0.....then it configues but then displays the message "an error has occurred. not all of the features were successfully changed" I have no idea what to do....I attempted to see if I could uninstall .Net 3.0 but I couldn't find it anywhere.

Feb 7, 2010I didn't see this exact problem in previous threads, so I'm asking for help with it.
I recently mistakenly put a DVD-RW disc in my computer's E Drive. It was the first time I ever used a DVD-RW, and I bought a box of them by mistake thinking they were CD-RW discs. (I wanted to save money that day, so I thought I'd get the discs rather than a USB stick.) Now when I go to Computer> E Drive> Properties> Recording I have some options, but see no way to make the E Drive have CD-RW as the default rather than DVD-RW. I checked all the other tabs in E Drive> Properties as well, but can see no way to do it. This is a problem, because I just tried to format a CD-RW disc, and it went through the process only to open a window at the end saying the disc was unable to be formatted. I don't know if the change in E Drive from CD-RW drive to DVD-RW drive is related to the problem I had formatting the disc, but I suspect it might be.

May 5, 2009I wanted to try out Windows 7, but I didn't want to upgrade Vista yet because it was still in beta. So I was going to dual-boot Windows 7 and Vista. I downloaded a copy of linux that was designed for partitioning so that I could partition my hard drive. Before I partitioned it with linux, I had just one partition for Vista and that was it. I had linux trim it down about 30 gigs and then make a new partition with that free space. It did all that and didnt report any errors. So I restarted my computer and the windows loading screen came up for about a second untill it said "Windows failed to start and a recent hardware or software change might be the cause". And it gave the the option of starting windows normally or to launch startup repair. I picked start windows normally and it went back to the loading screen. After a few seconds at that it gave me a BSOD for about a second before it restarted. I was able to see the error number before it restarted. It was 0x000000ED. So after it restarted it went back to the same message again. I picked launch startup repair that time. It then told me that I should get my Vista install disk that run the repair tools............

Apr 17, 2008I'm currently living in France and recently purchased an Acer computer here, with Vista Home Premium pre-installed. I'd assumed that I'd be able to select English as the display language but, apart from being able to select an English keyboard, everything is in French. If necessary, I'll live with this (it's a way of improving my French) but, if I could do it at reasonable cost, I'd like to convert it to English.
Purchsing the full English version is out of the question, as is upgrading to French Vista Ultimate and downloading an English language pack. Purchasing the English Home Premium Upgrade would have been OK, but I believe that this won't work with my current French version. An upgrade DVD was included with the computer, which appears to require payment on-line; I assume that this would be French also, so it's of no use to me......
Changing 'open With' Selections
Jan 11, 2009A few days ago, I downloaded a font from the internet onto my computer. I had difficulties loading it, and in a rush to download it to complete some work I (foolishly) messed with the 'Open With' selection. I'm not sure how I did it, but I changed the file to open with Microsoft Word, and then I realised that was a big mistake so I tried making it open with Internet Explorer, another mistake. Now it opens with one or the other, but just comes up with code. It was a zip file, and I just wanted it to open with nothing, if you get what I mean, just back to default. It's a pain, because I tried downloading a brush for my PSP8 (Paint Shop Pro 8, a drawing/graphics program) and once again it opens in internet explorer which I don't want. I tried removing Word and the Internet from the 'Recommended Programs' but so it's just empty, but it doesn't let me delete them. Both the brush file and the font should be in zip files, but instead of looking like the yellow folder with the zip they have either and 'e' for the internet or 'word' icon. It's really annoying, because now when I download zip files they all come up as internet or word files. Please could someone help me get rid of the word and the internet so they just have nothing, so they open like they should in whatever they should automatically, by themselves.

Sep 24, 2009When I log in, my Vista is turning screen off for a half of second. Then it is turning in on again. It does it twice every time I log in. And sometimes it changes resolution to lower.
System behaves in that way since I bought my notebook.

Changing Programs That Start Up Not Possible
May 29, 2008I have Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bits installed on my computer. Along with installing this, I also installed tons of drivers etc. however I do not need all of them at the start of every boot. So I wanted to delete them from the startup list, but this is not possible. When I go to Windows Defender > Launch programs, and click on the programs I want to disable from launching along with Windows, the options to Delete or Disable go grey.

Mar 23, 2008About once a week my screen resolution seems to be changing--I think on its own. I do have small kids that sometimes touch the keyboard, so that might have something to do with it, but I don't think so. I say its the resolution, but I am not even sure of that. When it happens the icons get bigger--and webpages font sizes become too big for a page. I have tried manually adjusting the screen resolution, but that doesn't seem to be the answer--it doesn't put it back the way it was before. To fix the problem, I have been restoring my system to previous dates---but it always seems to re-occur.

Feb 26, 2009I have setup a friends vista mail to authenticate via pacbell.net's servers for outgoing mail. All works well for a few days, then stops working. Upon re examination of the mail settings, the smtp port has reverted to 25 (set manually to 460 something) and the use ssl checkbox is unchecked. I have showed my friend how to re-set the settings so he is not losing much sleep over this one, but it annoys me.
