Flash Player In Guest Account Do Not Work
Feb 27, 2008my administrator account runs flash with no problems but in the guest account flashplayer doesn't work. Is there a way to fix this?

Setting Up Guest Account
Apr 23, 2009Just turned on the Guest Account for the first time. When I switch to this account, the desktop comes up with a bunch of misc blanked-out icons which it will not allow me to delete. And there's a blizzard of "Windows cannot open this file" messages - for shortcut links and for ..exe files including rundll32, issch, eullauncher, sttray, etc. How do I clean this up and start the Guest acct with a blank desktop?

Jun 30, 2009I tried to search this but to no avail, My Guest and any other standard account I create, logs off automatically, and is not usable. Me thinks that this resulted from my attempt to erase the password of the guest account by back-spacing in the password field, until no characters and hitting enter or whatever. I still have admin, but no standard accounts will now work. I have Vista Starter (waiting for Win 7) How can I fix the standard account functionality?

I can add the Network Location in Windows XP by doing the same.
Norton Internet Security 2008 is installed.
The account is administrative.

How To Make Drive Not Accessible To Guest Account?
Jun 8, 2008I have an external drive on my vista machine that has gives "Users" full control. I just found out that the guest account is part of the "Users" group. Is there a group that does not include the guest account? Basically I don't want to have my backup drive accessible to the guest account. Is that possible without replacing "Users" with each individual account?

Mar 31, 2008I have had this computer up for 30 days at a time but when my sister comes to visit I turn on the guest account and log out of my identity and let the computer sit at the choice between my account and guest is and I can't get through a night without Vista Home Prem. crashing. Is because I have programs running in my profile and that causes a conflict? This is frustrating as you can imagine. Feb 2, 2010I lost my flash player and can't re-install it. I've deleted the flash files and re-installed several times and deleted my macromed folder and re-installed. I think the issue is in the UAC. When I try to change the UAC account type to administrator I can click on the administrator dot but the change account type box fades and I can not select it. In advanced user profile properties there is a user name ending in a IUSR_NMPR and then the user name that I use. I can not delete either.

However, I do not want to be forever having to run all my programs as administrator because either I have to right click and do it, or set it to run as administrator which means I get the popup from UAC. Jun 10, 2008I need to download an Adobe Flash Player update. In the upper left corner a dialogue box opens up and asks me if I want to save the file. I click on save and that is the last I see of it. The dialogue box closes and I have no idea where the file is being saved to. I have used the search function and it always comes back that it cannot find the file I requested. Worse yet, Vista does not give me a choice as to where I want the file saved. I have drive C: drive D: on the primary HD. I have a drive G: on an external drive. I never had these type of problems when running XP Home on my previous computer. I have myself set up as administrator to try to avoid some of the roadblocks that Vista puts up.

Feb 19, 2007Every time I get one of those UAC prompts asking me to authorize an administrative action my LCD screen flashes when the box pops up. This is caused by the switch to the secure desktop, similar to what happens when you hit CTRL + ALT + DELETE. The only difference is that the background is a snapshot of your desktop that gives it the effect that it is just a pop up window. Although if you look carefully you will notice it is static since the clock does not change and anything else that was animated is now static. The secure desktop provides an extra level of security to UAC by making it immune to any application that may try to automate the click on the allow button bypassing the purpose of UAC.
This sounds like a great thing but it is really annoying to me. I hate that screen flicker. Rather than disable UAC, there is a better alternative. Instead, I can just disable the secure desktop switch that causes the flicker. I know this is not as secure but it is better than disabling UAC completely.

USB 2.0 Flash Drive Does Not Work
Mar 26, 2008Does anyone know the fix for this? I have a 250MB flash drive from the same manufacturer that works without a problem on a Vista workstation. I also have a new 1.0GB USB2.0 flash drive from the same manufacturer that works on my XP Pro workstation but does not work on my Vista workstation.
I have tried to reinstall the driver and found no driver for a USB drive. There have been many posts on the net about this problem with a few suggestions for fixes, but none have worked. Apparently Vista is blocking this USB drive. We have several USB drives of the same type and they are all blocked. Go to an XP Pro machine, and they work perfectly. This must be a new security app that Microsoft has added without any documentation to support it. It doesn't even show up as an error in event viewer.
