How can I find a file I restored from the recycle bin? I didn't watch which
location it was restoring to and I don't remember the file name.
I am running Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit, and yesterday, when I started my PC up, I was presented with a scaled down version of my desktop. Upon further investigation, I found out that I was at c:UsersTEMPdesktop. I attempted to put some files back on the desktop, and ran into other issues, so I did a Ctrl-Z to undo what I did. These files ended up in the recycle bin, with the c:UsersTEMPdesktop label, and any attempts to retrieve them result in an error message stating that this does not exist. I have gotten back to my original desktop, which is at c:UsersMedesktop by searching other internet sites about this disappearing desktop profile issue

View 9 Replies View RelatedVista Recycle Bin not emptying. The Recycle Bin appears to be functioning correctly, in that the context menu option to 'Empty Recycle Bin' greys out, the icon changes, and even the $RECYCLE.BIN folder (and subfolder 'Recycle Bin') show empty (hidden and operating system files not hidden) with total size around 20K. However, when running a full Windows Defender scan (with an "empty" Recycle Bin), a large list of files are lsited as being scanned within the Recycle Bin, within a sub-folder (not otherwise shown) corresponding to the HKEY_USERS key 'S-1-5-21-xxxxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxxxx-xxxx' (actual key replaced by x's).
When used Explorer to go directly to folder 'C:$Recycle.BinS-1-5-21-xxxxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxxxx-xxxx' I am taken to 'C:$Recycle.Bin ecycle Bin'. which is of course empty. If I manually delete the Recycle Bin a number of folders and files are listed for confirmation to be deleted, which also are not listed within Explorer (or on Recycle Bin properties). The Recycle Bin is automatically recreated, and the hidden files seem to disappear, but the problem again manifests itself over time. Why are these file not being deleted by emptying the Recycle Bin, why can I not see them, and how can I delete them routinely?
I just noticed: I drag a file into Recycle Bin...it doesn't show it's in there.
Yet when I right click on the recycle bin icon to delete, it says the usual 'do you want to delete this,' and I say yes, and it's gone.
Why can't I see there's trash IN the recycle bin? I know I musta clicked something.

View 6 Replies View RelatedLast night I had the silly idea of backing up my pc (using vistas inbuilt backup) when I was tired and sleepy. You guessed it, I ended up deleting some very, very important files from my pc instead of my removeable on whch I needed space. Allsorts of files: canon RAW, photoshop, indesign. I did this through my recycle bin. About 50gbs worth. I realised at the time and immediately stopped using the computer and switched it off. I am now surfing using an old computer. I have read threads about 'recuver' and I'm going to test it on this computer. My question is this: How do I install it on the pc with the lost files, without it overwriting on the space where my files where? The pc in question had a partition and all the files were from one partition, so if I install it on that partition is that ok?

View 5 Replies View RelatedWindows Vista Home Premium I receive a message when attempting to delete any file or any action regading the Recycle Bin that reads: "The Recycle Bin on C: is corrupted. Do you want to empty the Recycle Bin for this drive?" There is a choice for Yes and No. When I choose "Yes" the notice posted that it is "Deleting 1 item (2.28 KB)" and the progress bar indicates activity. When I click on the "More information" button, I find it is indicating: Time remaining: Calculating...Items remaining: Discovered 1 item (2.28 KB)... Speed: Calculating...This morning I started the process and went out for breakfast. On my return an hour and one-half later it was still running. When I open the Recycle Bin, no items show, but the the dreaded messsages appears. I will close only when clicking the "No" button twice.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy recycle bin is full!!! I didn't do it, I don't even know what some of the stuff is. A ton of stuff was put in it on June 19 and I wasn't even home then. In fact, there are a couple things in there that were in my documents (lists of medications, etc.) that I know I didn't put in there.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have had this laptop (from new) about 8 months and have just discovered that the recyle bin is empty - I have never emptied it. That was yesterday when I noticed. Today I deleted some files and the recyle bin was immediately empty. How can I change this please? I KNOW it's just trash but occasionally I have deleted the wrong file so I like to be able to have one more chance before it's gone forever. I am using Vista home premium
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I delete a file the icon of the bin doesn't show me that the bin is full, as it used to show. Also at the specific moment the "empty recycle bin" command is gray and doesn't give me the option to empty the bin. When I right click and "open" the bin, automatically the icon becomes full again!
I wonder why this is happening! It is the first time as a long time user that I face such a weird problem.
I have to tell that I checked my pc for virus, malware and ad-ware and it is clean.
OS: Vista Home Premium, 32 bit, SP2
I have a habit to see the date of delete of the files in recycle bin before i permanently erase them. Each time i open the recycle bin folder, the right pane view is always in Tiles mode, even i have changed it to Details mode. Vista has totally no memory about this. That is not something very difficult but i do not know why xp can do it, but vista cant !
