Sometimes when I download pictures from my digital camera, it creates "thumbs" which I can not open. The properties shows it as a db.file. This has only happened since I have had Windows Vista. XP was so much easier...wish I had it back!!! I read through the posts and checked to make sure the correct tabs were checked and not checked that had been suggested but the "thumbs" are still there!

I have windows vista only 1 year old It updates on schedule and virus and etc scans everyday and I have never had any problem until last week of opening my attachments even ones I send to family of family pictures, I have scanned my picture folder and no problems but in my emails after the emails come in and I go to open attachment, (and yes I know the ones I open are safe to) they will not open it just tells me there is no file, even on ones I have previouly sent out, now if I exit windows mail and then go back in I can open the attachments, in researching someone somewhere said certain emails with certain graphics, example they mentioned Kim Komando newsletters, would prevent you opening your own attach, I found this is true even with weather updates, pollen updates for allergys, and pillsbury newsletters and etc, anything with grapics
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am trying to open a disk that was given to me that contains pictures on it. When I check the disk's properties, it shows that 1/2 of the disk has information on it. But when I go to open it (from the COMPUTER page) nothing shows up on the screen other than a message at the top that says "Drag files to thisfolder to add them to the disc". I just want to know what I need to do to fix this so that I can open these pictures. I'm supposed to be doing a presentation with them for Sunday and won't be able to if I can't open the disk.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am new to this forum. Recently, I have been not able to see thumbnails of pictures. All i can see is the standard river and tree like thingy. Secondly, I can't open folders in the same window. Each time i double click, it gets opend in a new window. I tried different methods to both the problems like going to folder options, unchecking "always show icon, never thumbnails" , a full scan of my system( using norton). I even tried some of the solutions posted in this forum. But still both the problems are not solved.
One thing i noticed is that, when i on my computer, i can see thumbanils for few seconds then all of them get changed to the standard image.(river and tree). Could this be due to a virus or something?
When I insert my SD card a message pops up saying can't open pictures. The file format is not supported or you do not have latest update. I checked and it says I have the latest update. Don't know what to do

In Winzip 12.0 when I open a zip file with pictures in it, it always brings them up in thumbnail view. I can change the view to "details" and get a list of the filenames which is what I want to be the default action. But I can't seem to find a place where I can set that to the default. Winzip 8.0 didn't do this. I was *happy* with 8.0 but unfortunately it isn't compatible with Vista or Windows 7
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am absolutely going mad trying to fix this. I have purchased a laptop with Vista Home Premium installed ( I am a Vista novice BTW). Created a new profile for my partner ( mine is set up as the administrator) and transferred some pictures to the Desktop. Few days later I couldn't see the folder containing the pictures on the desktop; I tracked it back through the explorer. I transfer them to the documents folder ad The next time it is completely disappeared. Same happened with my pictures later on in my profile. I have searched the pictures everywhere, nothing and of course I have not deleted them, but they seem disappeared. I have tried a recovery software and nothing. Now, recoveing pictures would be good, but avoiding this happening again is my main concern.
I have also noticed that when downloading the software I use looses the link to the folder where the files are stored. it seems there is something wrong with the default folders set up in my profile (Documents, downloads, Pictures and so on).
I have some pics in my Windows Photo Gallery that I need to delete.Every time I click on them,9right click or left click)it gives me the message"The files you have selected might be read-only or in a location that is unavailable."It won't let me go to the properties of these pics, and at one time when it would,I followed all the instructions on the help menu as to how to change a read-only file, etc.No luck whatsoever.I deleted the pictures from My Pictures, but I cannot get them deleted from Windows Photo Gallery.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have encountered a very strange problem. I have downloaded two exe files recently. When I doubleclick on the exe file, instead of the application installing, what should happen but Word of all things opens with, in the case of one of them a box headed 'File Conversion - arw5setup.msi', and a similar wording in the second, asking me to select the encoding that makes my document readable. Whatever I select, the exe file then opens as a text file.
(The reference to an msi file is baffling as both files were exe files.) When it happened the first time I thought it was a corrupt file, but when it happened again it has to be that there is something wrong with my system. Is this a virus? Spybot has just come up with a clean slate ...
I don't know how this happened, but I didn't do it myself. For some reason,my Program Files directory has been changed to the Photos directory type, so it changed from the details like file type, size, etc., to rating, photo size, etc.I cannot figure out how to change the directory back to a General file folder type. The toolbar shows things like Slide Show, etc.The sub-directories are all fine and appear as a General type. I'm running Vista Ultimate 32-bit, without SP1.How do I change the folder type back to General?I can't figure out how with this single folder.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have recently had strange pixilated images mixed in with our photos when playing music and selecting slide show, our photos appear along with random images, they are not coming from MY PICTURES folder as i have right clicked when the odd pic appears and they are coming from random folders that i can't find.
I thought the strange graphics were coming from itunes or Tom Tom so i have uninstalled them both...but the images keep coming. How do i stop media center looking and producing these annoying images
All the pictures in my Pictures folder have disappeared, leaving behind a bunch of empty folders. I did not delete them, and I have no viruses according to AVG. It appears that this happened to a few others on this forum, but no solutions were presented. I noticed that the Read Only button was checked on the main folder, so I unchecked it, and I watched the status window un-apply "read only" protection from all my actual pictures files, so it seems to me that they're still there but invisible.
I performed a system restore, and Recova is in the process of performing a "Deep Scan" for my pictures (the quicker scan did not find the files). Has anyone solved the problem of the disappearing pictures? Is this a Vista problem, or perhaps a problem with an update?

2. I have many old graphics tutorials in HTM format which I downloaded some years ago when I was using Windows 98. They opened in Windows 98.
3. I can't open them with Vista. If I use FILE > OPEN in Internet Explorer, I get the HTML code. If I double click on the file in Windows Explorer, I get a message saying that Windows Internet Explorer is not responding.
4. I have a similar problem with HTM files which I have recently downloaded from the internet news groups. Are there some settings or updates to correct this problem.
I ordered some files and they came in rar and zip format. I know nothing about them. I downloaded winrar to read them. I guess I'm not using it right or something. All I get is codes and stuff. I need to open these files so that I can read them in plain english. I want to use these files on my web-site.

I am not sure if he is running the Business edition, but could someone tell me what utility that ships with Vista could be used to view the files? I know in XP you could even use Paint, but I don't know what utilities come with Vista. If there is such a utility, is it in both the Vista Home and Business editions? This situation has been discovered recently, and I don't know if it has ever worked, just in case SP1 might be involved. I don't even know if he has that update.

I am using 7zip for my vista home premium 32bit since 6 months ago. Its works fine for me and i am happy with it. Recently, i encountered vista shown pop up message saying that application not found, incorrect command line, when using 7zip. And i even can't download any zip files. I did uninstall and reinstall the latest version of 7zip, it seem does not associate with vista? even the 7 zip icon show differently not like before. Of course, i can't open any zip files.

The file was always saved as a 93Web Archive, Single file (*.mht).94 I must have done something wrong in playing around with my computer because I now cannot open any mht files that I save. This has been happening for the past week. When I click on the file to open it a dialog box pops up stating 93This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Still wmp will not open avi's when i double click on them nothing happens not even an error code appears? i have to drag and drop the avi files to get wmp to play them.
This may seem like a minor inconvenience but it's still an inconvenience, this only applies to avi files for some reason?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI had a file with .dbf extension (it was a .dbf III file ) and I right clicked it in order to open it with Excel. The thingis that I forgot to uncheck the option on the bottom that says "always open the specific file with this format" and now every .dbf III file that I have opens with Excel as a default and I don't want this. I tried to right click it and uncheck the specific box this time but still nothing... it still has the Excel option as a default.
How can I reverse this? I want to be able to choose the .dbf file with the format that I want to! In other words I want the .dbf III file to be white again instead of having the icon of Excel on it.
My stationary pc with XP broke, now I have a laptop with Vista. I connected my stationary harddrive as USB connection to my laptop. I can view all files but I have importand files in XP my personal admin account as on my documents and settings, my pictures, and other files that was on XP windows desk. This files I can not view or open, it says it need admin rights to open. I can also say I had a log in pass for XP, I know that password. How can I get a hand of this importand files. There is a tool in Vista systemtools "Windows filetransfer" it say it can transfer accounts also. what folder should I transfer to my laptop, I know I have to transfer my documents and setting on my own account, but do I need the admin account and I have one more guest account I don't need that. Do I need to transfer the Windows folder? Is there anyother way to get hand of this admin locked files, any software I can use directly so I don't need to transfer?

Im running office 2007 and 32bit vista home. I have been storing the files on a USB stick I thing there may be someing wrong with the usb stick I have now changed it but this dose not solve my problem of the lost files.
I have tried downloading various recovery programs none of which have worked. I have also downloaded open office and that will not open the files either. I don't know where to go from here.
