May 10, 2010I'm getting the following error message when Windows Mail (Vista 64 Home Premium SP1) tries to send e-mails from my laptop: The connection to the server has failed. Subject ..., Account: 'verizon.net', Server: 'outgoing.verizon.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 587, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E. Downloading incoming mail is not a problem, and I obviously can post to newsgroups. Although this is a new problem, I turned off Norton's checking of outgoing mail - no change. Verizon had us change to Port 587 last year so that's not the issue either. WM does send e-mail from my desktop so apparently the problem is specific to the laptop.

At present, we do it manually by copy pasting the header of a suspicious mail into a website online that looks up the country of origin for us. So we would like to know of any add-in that automates this process, paid or otherwise, or any alternatives that people are using for this kind of problem.

If you send this message, it will be sent properly, but you will not be able to read it in your sent items folder. Send anyway? When Windows Mail is open, and I go to Tools> Options> Security> Digital IDs> Personal> nothing is there. Above this is a choice of Intended Purposes. I have selected ALL. If I click on the Import> Welcome to Certificate Import Wizard> Next> I am asked for a file name. I don't know the name of the file name. Alternatively, I can click the BROWSE button. I don't know where to look for the certificate in my files. Whereas I don't know the name of the file, I can neither type it in where requested, nor use my computer file search function to locate it in my files.

Jun 9, 2008I should know better, but I make the same mistake again and again when I am absorbed in my work. I right-click on the document I want to Send to/Mail Mail Recipient, and find that what I had selected was NOT the document, just a LINK to the document.
Is there any way of activating a user option to chose, at that moment, between the link and the underlying document? Vista has plenty of exasperating UAC serial popup messages (eg five clicks just to do a Disk Cleanup), but a warning/option in this case would be welcome. Perhaps this feature is available and I just need to enable it?
