Age Of Empires 3 Not Working
Jan 23, 2009I have Windows Vista Home premium 32bit packet and whenever i turn on my game of age of empires 3 it blurs up weirdly and doesn't let me see anything Because of this i cannot play. Also with Asian Dynasties AoE3 i play for a half an hour and it turns black and quits.

Jul 6, 2009I've recently installed AoE3 on my computer and it works fine, I can start it and all that. Though then I ran into some trouble. I can't make home cities! When I click the "create-button" it freezes for a while and then I come to the menu which is supposed to let you handle your cards and all that. Though there is no city chosen, and when I try to choose one the only option I can click is create new home city. I simply don't get it. One would assume that it's something wrong with the game, and yeah. Of course there is, but I tried reinstalling it and that didn't resolve the issue..! Then I installed AoE: Asian Dynasties thinking that a later update might have a fix, but nope. Problem remains. This is really starting to get to me... I'm at a LAN and I'm the only Vista user you see, though I've had it installed on this computer before so...

Feb 24, 2009I have just recently installed aoe2 conq expansion, and I am trying to play it online again. But I need to update the game, and everytime I attempt to do it, it tells me I do not have the retail copy of the game installed, yet i have the discs sitting infront of me. I have tried running the patch in administrative rights, and tried running it under windows xp sp2 installation type, neither have worked. I have reinstalled the game multiple times, with no success.

Feb 17, 2009Alright, so I've basically installed everything and patched it and have the CD in the drive but when I start up the game, the game's logo shows up and then it suddenly goes.... "Age of Empires II expansion has Stopped working..." blah blah blah. I've ran some old games and they worked I don't know why AoE II doesn't....
Tried Compatibility Windows 98 and XP SP2 and Windows 2003 SP1 *No idea why* Tried reinstalling both of them, patched them already, my anti-virus doesn't interfere with it or anything, tried running in 256 colours and still crashes, also ran as Administrator and it doesn't work..
Specs: Intel Core 2 Quad 6600, 4gigs of memory, nVidia 9500 GT 256mb and Home Vista Premium x64/x86 and current Monitor settings is 1680 by 1050 Also this is my Task Manager, i don't think any of those interfere with it running the game..

Nov 27, 2007i'm trying to play multiplayer on this game through a home network. when i create a game i cant find it when i search through another vista running computer it doesn't appear. when i run 2 XP running computers (which are no longer with us), it works fine through those (using a wi-fi connection) and through vista i have tried Wi-fi and ethernet connection, but still no luck. i have minimized the game to unblock the windows firewall for the network accessing, but still no luck. i tried running the game in compatibility mode in both 98/ME and XP and still, again, no luck. i should probably add that a few months ago i tried running it through 1 XP PC and 1 Vista PC and it didn't work on there either.

May 25, 2008I love Age of Empires 2 (I own the Conquerors Expansion, Gold Edition). Only problem is that I recently got Windows Vista and have been experiencing these three problems:
1) The colors sometimes get messed up and the graphics become skewed. The most noticable example of this is when the grass becomes mixed with red blotches.
2) I'm having trouble connecting online with other players, regardless of their operating systems. My friends and I used to quickly and easily connect together but now the systems (mine and theirs) tend to crash.
3)Regular crashes about an hour or two into playing
Age Of Empires II On Windows, Freeze And Cannot Even Get Back To Desktop Using Key Strokes
Apr 26, 2008I am attempting to play Age of Empires on Windows Vista. I can load and play the game, but sometimes (Almost always) the entire computer will freeze. I cannot even get back to my desktop using key strokes. I have to hold down the power button to shut the computer down. WHen I re-boot the computer the screen resolution is all messed up because it is still set to the low AOE II screen resolution settings. Is there anything I can do to stop making the computer freeze?

Apr 2, 2010I have read many previous forums about AoE II issues, but none seem to apply to my issue. Late last year I successfully installed AoE II on my computer and was able to play it in Windows 98 compatibility without any issues. More recently whenever I try to play it, the window "Age of Empires II has stopped working." pops up.
I have updated patches, I have tried using files from a flash drive, I've tried installing and reinstalling, disabling graphics card, and many of the other suggestions read on this forum, none of which worked for me. I also installed the Trial version, and ironically, it works perfectly fine.

Can you make an ISO CD of this program, load it in your CD/DVD drive and check your memory for errors? I recently updated the BIOS on the board (DP35DP) and it does show all of the 4GB of Kingston ValueRam PC800 1.8v (2x2gb) installed. I have good reason to believe that it's from a respectable manufacturer. Just want to make sure the memory is good before I load up the OS.

Jan 30, 2007I'm assuming a clean install with an upgrade license will be identical to a clean install with a 'full' copy, except that at some point during the process, it will ask for my key for Windows XP? Apr 25, 2008I've tried numerous times to Install Vista Sp1, but without success. The install appers to go well, reaching 100% at stage 3, but then the screen reports the SP did not successfully install, and proceeds to roll back. On Checking the message in Windows Update, the install failed with error 80004005. I've raised the issue directly with MS, but the advice to install the SP in Safe mode has not helped. I've also trawled various forums and cannot find any reference to the specific error code.
I own a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ1. A number of forums seem to suggest it might be a hardware issue, and I have tried disabling / uninstalling various devices to
see if this helps, but this also has not got me any further. Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know what this error code means? Is there a way to force the SP to install despite this error code (it does get to 100% at stage 3 after all, so maybe it does install, but one of the packages check routines is picking up an error which doesn't really exist???)

Apr 20, 2008I could do a repair install, install new motherboard drivers and possibly have to validate all over again the same as you always did with XP but no good. I cannot get into Windows at all so cant run repair from WITHIN windows and no option from the boot DVD works. So, do you have to lose everything each time you upgrade hardware or some part of it dies meaning you are forced to upgrade hardware?
I installed from Vista Business pre SP1 and installed SP1 before the motherboard died.

Install On Second HD
Mar 30, 2008My laptop has a two HD's on board. I was thinking of replacing my larger D drive where I store data with the original smaller HD that came with and using that to install Vista. If I do that I can still access my data with a USB connection. Seems like the perfect solution! Does this then give me dual boot options? Will my programs installed on the XP drive work with Vista or do I have to install them again on the Vista drive? Even if I have to install them on the Vista drive it seems like I could go at it slowly as time allows and continue using XP until it's all up and running well. Does that make sense or am I missing something? I keep good backups but I like having the XP drive intact in case I missed something. Lots of senior moments these days! If this is good, will I be able to eventually just swap my Vista drive into the first postion where the XP drive is now? Or is there and another way to move or it to the C position?

May 31, 2009Sorry if this is redundant. I have a fairly slow broadband connection (1 mbps) but barely good enough for downloading Vista SP2. However, considering efficiency and reliability, would I be better off downloading the standalone installer (using another faster connection elsewhere) and bringing the download on a flash drive to my computer? Is this standalone installer much bigger, containing irrelevant stuff, than what Windows Update would eventually supply me with (since I'm current with all previous updates)?

64 SP1 Will Not Install
Jul 16, 2009A couple of weeks ago an update (KB955430) would not install. I understand this is a pre-requisite for SP2. Ive had one or two problems lately so decided (reluctantly but nevertheless) to re-formatt, give it a 'clean out'. Since then, lots of updates have installed, including the KB955430. Now, SP1 will not install. It was not offered but I went on the update website and tried to run it from there but now it shows in my available updates unless I choose to 'hide' it.
Everytime I try to install it goes through the process of preparing, downloading (although it shows the file size as 11.2MB and Im not sure this is as big as it should be) and within a few seconds shows it as 50% installed then goes to the red error window on updates saying installation failed. I have seen a couple of different error codes on the numerous times Ive tried to install it but the latest one is error code: 80070057. I have also tried downloading the 64bit standalone version. This appears to be installing, gets to approx 50%, then suddenly the green bar goes to the end (all within about 15 minutes) then the installation window disappears altogether with no message, error message or anything (but it hasn't installed)......

Oct 2, 2009Cutting a long story short... purchased MS Flight Sim X - will not install -phoned MS tech support who took control of my machine only to be told that there is a problem with my ntdll.dll (possibly corrupt) yet this is the only time I have had any problem. Tech guy advised re-installing vista. I really do not want to have to do that!
Can anyone think of a less sledgehammer-like approach to solving the problem? I have tried replacing my ntdll.dll with one from the recovery partition (an earlier date-stamp was on it), uninstalling FSX and then re-installing but I got exactly the same crash!.......
