I have all correct settings, I have deleted accunt and re installed account, changed port settings as requested and still get the same error. which is the following The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the "I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

My computer skills are basic so easy answers please. I have to use tiscali all the time but it takes longer to read my mail because of all the adverst etc downloaded along with the mail. I have spent many hours, reviewed, and tried many fixes to no avail. I have tried Windows Live Mail and Windows Mail. I am unable to send from either. I am also unable to send from my SBC accounts. I am able to recieve, except from the SBC account. The error messages are all the same. I am quite sure I have the settings input correctly. I have upgraded from XP to Vista; this seems to be the only common thread.

Created new email - tried to send - still couldn't. Error message - unable to connect to smpt server. Have gone to tols - accounts - servers - re-entered info.
I do not know if there is any cause and effect relationship between these two but since Windows installed some 10 updates two days ago,Windows Mail is unable to get down from the e-mail server of my I S P even a few incoming messages and that too even if I keep the Windows Mail open for one hour. I can of course connect to the WebMail facility of my I S P and see those messages but they will not get into my InBox of WinMail. Strangely, whereas WinMail says it is downloading those 2 or 3 messages (each of size 2K to 5K) for an hour, it is able to download Newsgroup or Microsoft Community messages (some of them 10 times longer) in a jiffy. So the problem is not with volume of downloading. If I close WinMail after waiting for a long time and try to reopen it, Vista says "another instance of WinMail is downloading messages". I have no choice left then but to do Control-Alt-Delete and end the Process. I tried to ask Vista to restore my system to the day before the Windows updates were installed but that Restore failed, according to Vista. Could anyone advise me as to how to restore my system to a working
There are discussions on this general subject but no aparent resolution. About two months ago I was sometimes prevented from opening photo attachments on some emails received from the same party and sometimes could open them. By this I mean, I would click on the paperclip where a list of photos would appear and I'd click on on photo and I'd get a message saying: "Windows cannot find file name (photo captions used by sender).jpg. Make sure your typed the name correctly and then try again." Well, of course I didn't type the file name; the sender did. I could click on the save attachments, and once saved to a folder I could open them from the folder. I forwarded the mail to others, and they report no problems in viewing the photos. I can also view the photos in the email itself, but it would be necessary to scan up and down and from left to right to view the whold photo and the caption would not appear.
I am unable to log into Windows Mail. When I login I get the Window Security box asking me to enter my username and pasword. Once I do, the system indicates it is authorizing, but then just brings me back to the same login box. I get the below error message:
Account: 'mail.comcast.net', Server: 'mail.comcast.net', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR invalid username/password', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92
I have verified all my Internet Account settings and they are ok, so I do not know why the system will not let me in.
I am no lonnger able to use Windows Mail ever since I received an uodate for SP1. When I open the program I get a blue screen and crash dump. Can someone help me or tell me where I should go if this is not the proper forum.
I posted earlier. with the problem of not being able to cut and paste into my Windows Mail. I've just done a system restore to before I downloaded Windows Live Mail and "hey presto" I can cut and paste into emails again. Perhaps it's unwise to download Live Mail - at least till they sort the program out!
I am having a problem using POP3 and SMTP set up. Some times I need to use a website email t respond but getting too may error messages and unable to remove those as well. I prefer using my regular email gerdabrook@att.net I am familiar with but cannot with a website response email.
Just having subscribed to microsoft newsgroups from within Windows Mail, I'm unable to sign in. Clicking on the Sign in button gets no response. When posting it asks me if I want to sign in and when I click on YES, nothing happens. I would rather access newsgroups inside IE7 but there I'm not able to reply at all. Is there a connection?
I am unable to access my windows mail, it has started asking me for my user name and password and i have tried every combination and i cant get in, i use AVG free version 9 fro virus protection - i read in another message this can sometimes affect it. i am getting the same message as the other person who had the same problem, they were using norton anti virus.
When I try to send mail with Windows Mail, I get the following message: You do not have a digital ID. If you send this message, it will be sent properly, but you will not be able to read it in your sent items folder. Send anyway? When Windows Mail is open, and I go to Tools> Options> Security> Digital IDs> Personal> nothing is there. Above this is a choice of Intended Purposes. I have selected ALL. If I click on the Import> Welcome to Certificate Import Wizard> Next> I am asked for a file name. I don't know the name of the file name. Alternatively, I can click the BROWSE button. I don't know where to look for the certificate in my files. Whereas I don't know the name of the file, I can neither type it in where requested, nor use my computer file search function to locate it in my files.
I think it's the server port number, but not sure what it should be. Here is the error message I got.
