MSN Mail Spell Checker
Apr 20, 2009The spell checker is on French and won't let me have it nothing and English is an option. I have installed a 3rd party spell checker, but this one on French seems the one it is going to. BTW, the one on outlook is working in English is the one in Office 07.

Nov 19, 2008where to find the spell checker dictionary so I can add or delete words from it? I use open office if that makes any difference, I obviously accepted the wrong spelling of the word "the" and accepted the spelling as "teh" now every time I spell "the" wrong the spell checker does not find the error.

Mar 25, 2008Why does this not say American and why is English not available. 70% of words Highlighted have the correct spelling and mail simply wants to use the American corruptions. In virtually every other Microsoft product we have both English (American) and English (True or UK as normally quoted). Why not in this product after all Americans only make up some 4 or 5% of the world population?

Jul 8, 2008I have searched numerous threads and google/yahoo searches for my continuing issues with MS Word 2007 Spell Checker. Spell Checker no longer identifies spelling errors yet grammar correction remains. I have tried registry tweaks and carefully examining the proofing options within Word 2007. I do not have a previous version for a custom install so that is not an option. Spell Check functions fine in ppt and xls but not in Word anymore. If a Word fix is not available are there any free spell checkers that will function inside a word document?

Jun 1, 2008My laptop is newish. Maybe 2 months now. The model is Advent and I'm running Vista Home Premium. The checker wants to check the Vista drive for consistency. It want's to scan 3 stages. I only gets to the first stage and displayes someting along the lines of:

Readable/writable file not re writable. And then does nothing after this. If this information is not enough I will re do the scan and take down everything displayed. But what can be the problem? I download nothing and scan it daily. I have touched no system files and have only had a small handful of crashes. Is this proble something somebody knows how to solve. This laptop was bought for me and I cannot afford to have it repaired.
System File Checker, Restore
Jul 5, 2008I can not find system file checker, after messing up my files in a partitioned desktop Dell XPS 420 . I want to do a restore to yesterday, but can't find system file checker first. I ran an advanced search and it gave me links that would not open. When I followed the directions for sfc to dos. I couldn't get in as administrator. (I am). Search also gave me links to windows 98 links from 2000 from my old machine. do system file checker and restore to yesterday.

Sep 6, 2007It looks like my Media PC restarted while Media Centre was still running and somehow it has corrupted a couple of DLL files.
OLEACC.DLL
WINTRUST.DLL
I have tried running System File Checker, while confirmed that some files were corrupted, but it couldn't fix them. Eventually I worked out how to change the permissions on those files so that I can manually replace them, but can't find a fresh file to replace them with, either on the Vista DVD or on the Net.
Changing From French To English
Apr 17, 2008I'm currently living in France and recently purchased an Acer computer here, with Vista Home Premium pre-installed. I'd assumed that I'd be able to select English as the display language but, apart from being able to select an English keyboard, everything is in French. If necessary, I'll live with this (it's a way of improving my French) but, if I could do it at reasonable cost, I'd like to convert it to English.
Purchsing the full English version is out of the question, as is upgrading to French Vista Ultimate and downloading an English language pack. Purchasing the English Home Premium Upgrade would have been OK, but I believe that this won't work with my current French version. An upgrade DVD was included with the computer, which appears to require payment on-line; I assume that this would be French also, so it's of no use to me......
OS - What Are The Difference Upgrade, OEM And Just English DVD?
Dec 11, 2009I'm looking to get a new OS w/new build. What is/are the difference's between upgrade, OEM and just English DVD? The prices are as follows; upgrade = $219, OEM = $199, English DVD = $319 and are from Tiger direct. This is for the Ultimate OS and some prices are reflecting sales and rebates. I understand the upgrade is overlaying new OS over the old OS but the other two confuse me. So with a new build what would be best?

Mar 26, 2008I live in Spain and bought my wife a laptop. She is having trouble with the language and wants to change it to English, I am a bit annoyed at having to buy an English copy of Vista. Especially after watching an MS promotion video of how they are working to cover the need of using multiple languages, why the step back in Vista then ? It is an Acer laptop and also has programs pre-loaded and a backup restore installed etc. If I buy the English vista, do I have to do a clean install to get English Vista on, or just load it as a repair, and will it need re-activating etc ? If it does need a clean install then I will lose everything that has been pre-installed and and will be an expensive experience.
