Headset Not Functioning..
May 25, 2008I have a headset (mic & earphone). I used it on my old system and it worked fine, but now that I've upgraded to Vista x64 it seems to not work. I'm wondering if maybe there is a setting or something that I have missed somewhere?
The problem: I can hear sound coming from it...so no problems there. The sound quality is great just like before..now then, the problem is that the mic seems to not work anymore. No one can hear me and I've tried testing by recording myself and it doesn't play back anything either. I also tried hooking it back up to my old PC and it worked fine...so its definitely a software problem of some sort..

Feb 6, 2009i have been having problems with a slow internet connection just lately.when i am trieing to diagnose the problem with my isp's tech on the phone another problem has surfaced they ask me to connect via ethernet cable to the modem,when i am connected my machine says i am connected i.e the little blue circle in task bar but when i try to open a web page it shows "internet explorer cannot..ect" i have reset the lan adapter and rebooted the modem my sons laptop connects via lan ok and i can connect wirlessly ok is there a setting i have to do .I find that i have to turn my wireless adapter off to get a connection via lan i have updated drivers ect iam using vista h/p ompaq presario the lan adapter is a realtech family fast ethernet adapter.

Jan 3, 2010I recently downloaded WinAmp. I have only that to possibly blame for my current predicament. I just uninstalled it.
When I download something (anything) I used to get the little download box to appear in the upper left hand corner of my screen showing the download that just took place. Then I could right click on that download to show Open or Open File Location (which would be in the downloads file). But what I liked about it was that I could go right to that file location easily.
Now, whenever I make a download, the box still appears in the upper left corner but for a split second you see a file going into the small downloads box and then quickly disappearing. In a flash. How do I get the file to show in that small downloads box again?
As I said, I suspect WinAmp but I can't prove it. In any case, this brings up another problem. WinAmp took over my Windows Media Player and made itself the Default Player. I discovered the download box problem when I tried to play a video download and it wanted to play on WinAmp-not WMP. I don't recall setting WinAmp up as my player-I may have and not realized it, however. Anyway I want WMP back as my default player. Prior to WinAmp, my download box was working fine as best I recall.
Is there some reinstall or configuration to get the download box working again?
I tried to reinstate Windows Media Player (11?) now but it won't associate itself with all the various file extensions. How do I get my WMP to fully work again?
And how do I reinstall WinAmp (which I like) but keep WinAmp from taking over certain features where I do not want it?
IE Slow, Network Was Not Functioning
Apr 24, 2008The other day IE 7 was running very slow. It took over 10 minutes to load a web page. I only found out the it would actually load the web site because I left I IE running while I used another computer to search the web of answers. whe I returned the web page was loaded. But if I tried to click on anything on the page it would not load for a long time. I thought that the network was not functioning. But I was able to install the current updates with no problems. The antivirus updates worked normally. I could ping www.excite.com or www.usatoday.com with no problems.
I also noticed that the antivirus program would hang and not start scanning the memory. If I used task manager to end the process it would cause the antivirus process to go to the next step and I could tell it to scan the disk drives. But it would never start. I tried to reboot but had the same problem. I finally rebooted into safe mode with the network. At this point the network worked and the antivirus also worked. I did a virus scan and it found nothing. I then rebooted the system and now everything seems to be working.
Games Not Functioning Correctly
Feb 6, 2009i have seen quite a few posts about vista games such as solitaire or minesweeper being missing or not being able to start and there seems to be fixes for those i however have an odd problem that i cant seem to get resolved. i have the games i can open the games however when i do open the games i get no picture/video if i open solitaire for instance the window pops up and i can then move cards (i know this because i can get a score going and the time goes) but i can not see the cards/ board same think with inkball slightly different but equally irritating is chess it just comes to the loading chess titans screen and sits there indefinately please assist i am running vista home premium 32 bit

Mar 19, 2010I have a Fujutsu Siemens Amilo Pi Laptop.. I run Vista Premium Home 32 Bits. Service Pack 2. Intel Core 2 duo CPU T7100 @ 1.80 GHz 1.80 GHz Memory: 2GB. But everytime when i'm working on it for a while it stops functioning.. ( for about 30 minutes ). I went to a computer shop and said they would fix it for me.. but when i got it back they said everything is working fine. does anyone know how i can fix it myself? I think it has something to do with my hard drive.. cuz when i'm working in office word i save it multiple times but when i open it later i find out it haven't been saved for a while..

Sep 8, 2008I had a problem printing documents - the 'spooler subsystem app' was not functioning properly. So I found this site: You cannot add a printer, and you receive printer spooler error messages, and didn't see the fact that this troubleshooting page was for XP only. So I followed the instructions, and basically ended up deleting nearly all registry files in safe mode except the default ones. When I realized I had messed up, I performed a system restore that I had created immediately before editing the registry files. After the system restore, Vista wouldn't boot. So I restarted and booted in safe mode, got confirmation that the system had been restored, and restarted once again in Vista. Now, I have some annoying problems:
-the start menu freezes. I can click the menu, but i can't click any icons on the start menu itself. -Windows Live OneCare won't start -System restore will not boot. when I start it in the start menu (before start menu freezes), I see in task manager that rstrui.exe (the System restore file) is running as a process, but no application appears. How can i restore my computer?

Oct 26, 2008I am trying to open jpeg image files from a CD on my new Vista PC laptop and it is not working. I think I burned them on a Mac - there is a small red Apple icon on the disc drive icon. I can see the jpeg files in the disc folder but can't open them by double-clicking the jpeg icons - nothing happens. I can't import them into Windows Photo Gallery. When I drag and drop them into Photoshop, it just opens blank white jpeg of the same dimensions. If I try to open them from within Photoshop, I get the error message: "A device attached to the system is not functioning". I can't copy the files onto my computer. I can open the images in Windows XP and Windows 2000, just not Vista. I assume the problem is because the discs were burned on a Mac (I could be wrong).
