Startup Repair And Failure To Boot.

Jul 12, 2009

Start up repair problem signature reads as follows:
Problem Signature:
Problem event name: StartupRepairv2
Problem signature 01: AutoFailover
Problem signature 02: 6.0.6000.16386.6.0.6000.16386.....

When I boot at the Thoshiba screen (options to boot into setup/multiboot) there are green lines going vertically through the screen. It will not boot if that is the case. It then initializes start up repair which gives me the error above. I have tried to restore from earlier points to no avail. I have reinstalled vista from my disks at which point it worked for a minor peroid of time and this started to happen again. Virus? Once In awhile it will boot without the green vertical lines and will start up just fine, but this appears to be random.

Cannot Get Past Startup Repair

Mar 6, 2010

Starting today I tried to turn on my pc and I get the startup repair screen. It does a quick scan and says "windows cannot repair this computer automatically". It gives me the option to send the info to Microsoft or don't send, I tried both and both take to an option to finish or cancel. Finish shuts down the pc and cancel restarts. This seems like a never ending cycle, I cannot get to the desktop to use my computer.

My girlfriend said she would notice microsoft office would uninstall randomly which has never happened before, and we also keep our pc on at night and she said it recently started turning off itself. She thinks it may have started when we started putting music onto our mytouch phones with the usb wire and we charge our phones while it stays connected to the of. I'm not sure what to do. Also Im not sure of which uptdates were installed since they are automatically done. Here is a list of the problem details it gives m after the short startup repair:

Startup Repair Issues

Sep 16, 2009

So my dell XPS with vista started acting up today. When I started it up it took forever then went into the startup repair tool. After repeatedly running startup repair I got the blue screen of death. Restarted and then I chose a system restore point, and ran the startup repair again.

Well after about 3 hours of the repair running and having my computer restarting about 40-50 times its still has not allowed me to actually run windows.

I should let you know that my laptop battery is completely dead and no longer works. Today I just yanked the power cord out while windows was running if that has anything to do with it.

System Trying To Repair The Startup

May 23, 2008

I restart it and it doesn't want to start up and it just keeps trying to repair the startup. This then stopped, for the next couple of days all it was doing was going past the BIOS then a black screen with a blinking cursor would appear and it would never boot. Im pretty much sure that it came with Vista preinstalled on it so I dont have a vista CD, I tried the recovery Cd.

Now everytime i restart it it gives me options for safe mode etc I have picked them all and it loads fr a bit then the screen goes to a page with text saying reinstall windows and the registry is corrupt. Info: Windows failed to load because the system registry file is missing, or corrupt. Now I cant get into any of the safe modes at all and I dont have a vista CD as it was preinstalled.

How Long Should Startup Repair Run For?

Mar 22, 2009

Or is this sort of like asking "how long is a piece of string?" My laptop was attacked by my 9 year old computer illiterate child this morning and has since failed to bootup. I got as far as the startup repair which kicked in automatically but after several cycles (each lasting a few minutes) it has now been "attempting repairs" for over 4 hours. It won't let me cancel and I don't want to cut the power in case it is still working and not actually hung. Should I let it carry on running? Should I cut the power? Any keys I could use to bypass? I can't provide a lot of info about the machine or what happened on the run up to the error.

Repair action: File system repair (chkdsk) Result: Completed successfully. Error code=0x0 Time taken=681272 ms Does this mean it was repaired? and if so, why can I still not boot up even in safe mode?

Post SP1, Windows RE (Startup Repair)

Mar 24, 2008

The computer is a Dell Inspiron with a recevery partition (D. Iinstalled SP1 two days ago. Since then the computer has been rebooted about 5 times. On the 6th, all hell broke loose. I don't believe any changes have been made since then. Naively, I want to question how RE does not know how to work with Vista SP1. Perhaps RE is on the D: partition and was not updated?

Stuck In Startup Repair Without OS Listed

Aug 7, 2009

I am using Windows Vista Home Premium and it has been running great until this morning when I tried to turn on my computer. It took forever just to get me to a random blue screen where it then stalled and about ten minutes later a box came up and asked me which language I would like to use. Since Wookie was not listed I settled for English. Then another few minutes went by until my computer painfully popped up another box asking which driver I would like to select so that I could run Startup Repair.

However, there aren't any drivers listed! What do I do from here? I have a tendency to push the big button that says launch so I just clicked next without selecting any drivers (mostly because there weren't any to choose from). It then began Startup Repair, hooray! But hours went by and finnaly I came home from work and it was finally done repairing. It said it repaired everything and all I needed to do was restart and everything would be just fine and dandy. But was it? Well, that's where you fit in oh great computer gods. Will you answer my prayers? What should I do? Possibly a mouse sacrafice? A computer mouse that is...

Not Start Up, “Launch Startup Repair”

Jul 11, 2009

I shut my computer off last night as I normally do before I went to bed. It shut down without any issues. Everything was the same as it normally is. When I went to turn on my computer today, it goes through the Dell startup screen, then it tells me there might be a problem with some hardware or something to that effect and gives me the option to either “Launch Startup Repair” or “Start Window Normally”, then windows attempts to start (has the green scrolling bar at the bottom). Either of these options take me to the same place next which is a screen that states “System Recovery Options”, and asks me to select my keyboard language. So I did and hit “next” to continue to a screen that asks me to sign into my account on the computer, and then it took me to another page that displayed a box of system recovery tools.

Being a little confused about what was happening, I selected the option for “Startup Repair”. When it finished I chose to restart the computer as it noted that if the problem was fixed it would start normally. It didn’t start normally and I went through the same process again when it rebooted. I have tried this option many times today, and it isn’t working. I also have tried a few times the option for “Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool”. It goes trough the tests, says nothing about finding a problem, then the computer restarts to the same situation............

Startup Failure!!!

Apr 11, 2008

I don't know what's happen during the startup of Vista 32 but is the strangest startup of Windows I've never seen in the previous OS

1) Times to load Windows very long respect XP with a fast pc using CPU Intel DC2 4 2.40 GHz 4GB ram
2) Some applications don't load caused by UAC but not every startup
3) Some applications are "forget" to load or not visible in the tray
4) error messages of load failure appear but not at every startup
5) The little arrow on the tray bar that hide programs 1 time appear and 1 time don't appear and the programs are the same running and visible on the traybar. Perhaps the SP1 has resolved these problems? I use the italian version of Vista 32.

Install Problem - Now Stuck On Startup Repair

Mar 11, 2009

Recently I bought a new laptop, a Sony Vaio VGN-NS11Z/S. But I've already bumped into some problems. It bought it with Vista 32bit (x86) preinstalled and today I tried to install Vista x64 which I got through Microsoft Bizspark. I simply downloaded the ISO and burnt it onto a DVD, everything seemt fine and I was prompted for my serial number which I entered and it started installing. All of a sudden the install encounters a problem and the installation terminates.

When I try to start my computer after this event Startup Repair pops up and after a while it says "Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically". Instead I'm left with a couple of options like restore from a system restore point, open Command prompt etc. None of the options does anything for me since I've been stupid and never made any restore points or backups of any kind. Is there any known fix to this problem or am I basically stuck with a 1000$ paper weight?

Black Screen Continue With Startup Repair

Feb 14, 2009

My windows vista crashed for no apparent reason and it will continuously direct me to a black screen with an option to continue normally or launch startup repair. Normal startup doesn't work, and the repair gives me the message "cannot repair this computer automatically". I send the info to microsoft and it gave me no options to fix it And although I have attempted the repair several times already, for some reason it says number if repair attempted:1

Root cause found: Startup Repair has tried several times but can still not determine the cause of the problem."

Root cause found: Unknown bugcheck: Bugcheck 7f. Parameters = 0x0 0x0 0x0 0x0.
Repair action: system restore Result completed successfully

Note this is the results from 2 separate occations I have tried System restore to an older date but it did not work. I have tried safe mode, did a dskchk with /f but didn't do anything.

Startup Failure: Windows Explorer Not Responding

May 1, 2009

Having a massive problem here with vista! Windows explorer decided not to respond and then said that it required restart, while in the process of restart explorer the laptop crashed with blue stop error screen. Afterwards, new startup screen came on saying the vista is unable to load and to chose either Startup repair or Resume Windows normally

now when I tried to use startup repair it was unable to fix problem and then tried to resume normally but this showed only a blank black screen. What is happening and how can I fix this?! Im trying to do this without formatting if possible since there are still important documents and programs that I need to backup!

Boot Failure - Dual Boot Situation

Mar 23, 2008

I have more or less completed all the driver upgrades and windows updates but I keep getting repeated boot failures of Vista. I can always get into Safe mode but in Normal mode the boot fails just after the first spash screen at the point when the screen goes blank to be replaced by the small circular Vista logo. After 2 or 3 attempts it succeeds to load but then the problem seems to reoccur, particularly when I have been back to XP for a while.

I had a similar problem with XP but that seems to have sorted itself out. I have tired looking in the logs for faults and failures but no clues there. I am running an ASUS P5E MB with Intel Quad 6600, 4Gig RAM, GeForce 8800GT and 2x250Gig HDs.

Bad BCD, Now It Wont Boot To Install CD For Repair?

Nov 23, 2007

I accidentally put vista into sleep mode. The video was all garbled and it was clear there was an issue. So, I hit the reset button on my tower to stop the mess. My next boot I got the error.

File: Boot/BCD

Status: 0x0000001

Info: An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data. It says to put in the windows installation disk and "click repair your computer." The issue is when booting to the DVD, on the page with the moving green bar and it says Windows Vista under, it hangs. I even left it there for 2 hrs. The HDD LED on my computer is solid the whole time too. All my hard drives are SATA and they are in AHCI which is turned on in the BIOS. Perhaps changing the drives to IDE would help?

Anyways, Id like to get into that repair CD so I can fix my boot sector so I dont have to reformat. This has happened before and Ive had to reformat. Im sick of it, I dont want to reformat Vista again. Incase you didnt already know Im using Vista Ultimate x64.

How To Repair When Computer Boot To Windows

Jul 7, 2008

I have a Dell Dimension E520, which won?t boot to Windows (Vista), and none
of the repair options work:

Startup repair
Reports repair fail due to problem with registry

System Restore
Reports no restore points available

Windows Complete PC Restore
Reports no backups available

Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool
No memory problems

Command Prompt. Can?t think of any appropriate command to use here. So I booted with the system DVD (as one would with XP) but the upgrade option has been greyed out. I don?t want to do a clean install. I want to repair the existing installation.

Start-Up Repair Not Work, No Boot

Jul 29, 2009

I have an Acer Extensa laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium installed. Its been working great for over a year now untill yesterday when all of a sudden it wouldn't boot up properly. It continued to go to start-up repair, but that kept on failing. After trying all other tools, (system restore had no restore points for some odd reason)... I tried safe mode. That did not work. It instead went back to the start-up repair screen. The same warning message popped up everytime it failed "Cannot repair automatically, click finish blah blah blah". When I bought this laptop from Best Buy, I did not recieve any type of Disk for Vista, it was already loaded on there... I would rather not do a clean install.
