Realtek HD: Device Unplugged, Cutting Audio Constantly
Dec 15, 2008
ive been getting this problem for a while now, even after system restoring. whenever im running something that requires audio, eg. itunes, ventrilo, Internet video etc a balloon will pop up from 'realtek hd audio manager' saying a device (my headphones) has been unplugged, it will then say the device has been plugged in again. it cuts the audio for about a second (very frustrating) and if i am in game, will make me lag also. it seems to occur more frequently when i am in vent and in game, if more than 2-3 people talk at once it will happen definately. i have tried reinstalling directx10, playing around inside the realtek hd audio manager.. but to no prevail.

I was wondering if anyone has issues with the x64 sound drivers for the Delta series of M-Audio soundcard/hardware? Mine keeps cutting out randomly, I think iTunes may be the most guilty (usually happens whenever I stop/pause then resume my sound dies). Before the patch I figured out a way to get around it about 75% of the time, I would just close iTunes and any sound/media based program and re-launch them and it would work again. But now it seems that that does not work anymore

As I was playing a game my speakers stopped and minimized, then my Realtek HD Audio Manager says that my headset is plugged in, I looked to see if it was, it wasn't...and now my sound is muted, I rebooted the computer and there was no change, I closed Realtek Audio Manager down and started it back up and still no change!

I reconnected my computer and i know everything is correctly plugged in but my audio isn't working i can't hear a thing.
I am on Vista Home premium
And I'm using Realtek High Definition Audio
When i check the Sound settings everything is High and maxed out nothing is on mute and it shows that my speakers are emitting noise.

After installing SP2 I noticed that Windows had replaced my Realtek HD Audio driver with its own older version. It also now appears twice in the Device Manager; I can remove one of them with no ill effects but it is redetected at next boot and reinstalled. So I removed both of them, installed the latest Realtek driver and rebooted. Now I still have two instances - one (called Realtek High Definition Audio) with the Realtek driver and the other (simply called High Definition Audio Device) with the Microsoft drivers. If I force the Microsoft one to use the Realtek drivers it crashes horribly with a BSoD (so I won't be doing that again!).
Once again I can remove the Microsoft one with no ill effects but it's redetected and installed again on the next boot.Something in my memory tells me I always had two entries under 'Sound, Video and game controllers' but the second one wasn't called "High Definition Audio Device" and the Driver Provider was Realtek, not Microsoft. Trouble is, I can't remember what it was called, or what it was for. I could always do a System Restore to pre-SP2 and find out that way but it's probably worth finding out here first whether I'm worrying about nothing or not. It seems I've got two components of the same chip with drivers from different releases.

I can't get the the audio to work (at all) on Vista x64. I went from XP to Windows 7 that didn't work out because I couldn't find any audio drivers that worked. So I decided to switch to Vista for the time being, same thing no audio. I've tried installing the chipset and several versions of the audio drivers (RealTek). I've checked device manager and it detects it and shows it's working fine (even get the green bars when music plays).

I have a GA-73PVM-S2H motherboard with onboard Realtek HD Audio. I have a 2.1 speaker set up which has two small front speakers and one subwoofer. Until last night I had a Guitarport which is a kinda external sound card which i use for playing the guitar (its pretty cool). Anyway, i took this out and plugged the speaker lead back into my PC but since then i cannot get any sound out of the speakers. When i look at the Realtek Panel and get it to look like my set up, when i do the test thing on the speakers NO sound comes out at all. However, when i set it up to have REAR speakers i can hear the test sound but it comes out of the front speakers and when i play an MP3 i can hear the music REALLY QUIET as if it is the sound that would normally be coming out of the rear speakers which i do not have. It sounded to me like i had connected the speakers up incorrectly but there is only one lead and it is definately in the right 'hole' and i tried it in all the other 'holes' too but still not working.

My computer has Realtek HD Audio Manager installed on it as the main audio manager. I have 4 speakers plus a subwoofer, so I set it as 5.1 speakers and unchecked the button for a center speaker in the manager so that it won't make my sub act as a center. However, on the back of my desktop, the jack for the sub is also the jack for the center speaker. So, whenever I listen to my music, it won't use my sub, but if I check the option for having a center speaker, it tries to make my sub act as a center speaker, which makes it sound awful.

firstly, apologies for not so great english and especially for not being very computer savvy. my issue is that the audio fades in and out of hp pavilion a6010n desktop pc, windows vista home premium, sp1, 32-bit os. i always use headphones plugged directly into the front of the tower, and my lcd monitor has built-in panel speakers. this problem has been constant since i purchased the pc in august of 2007, but will resolve itself periodically sometimes for a few weeks or even a few months.
i have noticed that it most often happens upon start up and even often affects the boot up windows noises. then, if i open windows media player or anything else with audio (Internet videos, yahoo! news videos, etc.) the sound in my headphones will fade in and out from one ear to the other - usually (but not always) it is the left ear that loses audio, but lately both have done this. this will happen immediately after starting up, then usually reslove itself after anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour - then all will work well again...........

I bought a new computer with this configuration:INTEL G31/1600Mhz/asrock Intel® Dual-Core E5200-2.53GHZ-2MB-800FSB/45Nm Memory 2 GB Kingston onboard Sound card: Realtek High Definition Audio I installed Windows Vista Business x32 bit and everything is working properly except the sound card, I can hear music but it sounds so bad. I have 2 front and 2 rear speakers that worked great with my old computer (also with onboard realtek sound card) so I guess the speakers are not the problem. Let me tell you exactely how the sound sounds like.
I put Madonna, Fever song (which is a good one..)(MP3) and I bearly hear her voice... when her background vocals start screaming I can hear them bettter the the main vocal. It's like the front speakers and the rare swithced, but they didn't - from the Realtewk Audio Manager when I test the sound everything is ok.. I mean the front sound comes from the front speakers and the rare sound from the rare ones. I also tried to change the speaker configuration from 5.1 speakers to stereo and to quadraphonic but the sound is the same - only background voices!

Alright, i had a problem trying to Enable realtek audio from the Sound Hardware list from Control panel. After an hour of hunting and freaking out constantly, I found a solution that was looking at me in the face the whole time, I feel kinda stupid.
To Fix - Goto Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound > Right click anywhere in this screen > Show disabled devices > Left-click speakers > properties > Device Usage > Enable.

I have a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pi1505 laptop with Windows Vista 32 bit home premium installed. When I got the laptop there was an icon in the system tray near to the clock which when you clicked on it opened up a nice looking graphic from which you could alter the realtek sound settings and choose things such as concert speech room etc. It had graphics depicting speakers and other things.
That has now completely disappeared and I cannot seem to get it back or find it anywhere on my computer. It made making adjustments to the sound settings so much easier and I miss not having it. Is there anyway to restore it back so that I can alter my sound settings more easily

My notebook recommended me to download the latest driver of NVIDIA. I had to go the following site: Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers. So I went to the wedsite and I downloaded a new driver. After I installed it, I had to restart my notebook. So I did it. But when I was at my frontpage, the error following error appeared: Notification Tool for the RealTek Audio Chip is stop working again. We're looking for a solution. But it couldn't find any solutions. So, what is 'RealTek Audio Chip'? BTW: I also reïnstalled the driver,

I was cleaning my computer and accidently uninstalled my realtek audio drive. I immediately re downloaded and installed it but now my sound doesnt work. My sound icon isnt X'd out or anything, I'm just not getting sound. I'm sorry if I'm not providing enough information, ummm... lets see if I can give more info... I think it might have something to do with the fact that I'm using an HD TV screen and my sound comes through that... but I dontknow how to fix it.

I recently just tried plugging in an old pair of speakers that i've had for some time, and they worked fine. I then decided that i'd just make sure everything worked fine if i wanted to switch back to my headset, so i went into Control Panel -> Sound and saw both my speakers and headset there. I double clicked on the realtek audio out part that was my speakers, and assumed that selecting the disable option (a drop down box that said "device usage" next to it) would just switch to my headset, since just double clicking on my headset did nothing. Well, now it just completely got rid of the driver from that list and i can't get my speakers to work.

I noticed that recently the little speaker icon for the Realtek HD Audio Manager (on the taskbar next to the clock) seems to completely disappear at times. One minute it's there, and then Poof! it's gone. It started a few weeks ago. I would restart the computer, and it would be back, but then later disappear. (I checked everything I could think of, enabling the notification, checking all the boxes in the control panel and in the realtek control panel, making sure it wasn't a "hidden" icon, etc.)
Now it's back, but instead of being white, it's red. I used to be able to right-click on it and the volume slider would appear and I could adjust the volume easily. Now when I right-click on the red icon, I get a list--> Sound Manager, Audio Devices, System Sound Events, etc. but no volume slider like before.
The sound itself works fine--no problem with the speakers--but I just can't figure out what has caused the problem with the icon disappearing and now re-appearing but with a red color.
Any ideas? I just want my volume slider back!

i just bought LOGITECH x-530 5.1 Speaker system. when i go to "Realtek HD Audio manager" and choose "5.1 speaker" the "rear pair" is grayed out! Here is a picture; if i change it to 7.1. then the "rear pair" will appear and i will be able to preform the test and hear sound... B-U-T ---> when i will play movies.. (divx, mkx, bluray.. ect'...) i don't hear the people talking.. it's like the wrong sound configuration information goes to the speakers. it will seem the people talking coms from the sub-woofer.. and again really really dim... .+ the rear speakers will work but very low (even when i put it on full volume) . any idea how to set up correctly the sound ? so even if i am on 7.1. the sound will go to the speakers as 5.1 and send the right information to each speaker?

I am trying to adjust my mixer to accomodate my new speakers, the voice is too low, and the base is too high. I have accessed the mixer and tried to make it tollerable, but have failed. There is no direct bass and treble adjustment, and there is not a "user" or "custom" setting. There are only presets, the problems with these presets, is that they work in certain situations, but not in others. Any advise? Am I looking in the worng place? Can I put software in place to adjust the levels indepent of each other? I am using the onboard sound card on an Abit IP35 Pro, and I am using Home Premium 64.

I know this is a repetitive topic, but I can not seem to figure this one out. It is a HP Laptop DV9815nr. I do not know much about it as it is not mine, but the problem is the audio was cutting out and now there is nothing. The computer is not recognizing any type of audio device installed. Even in Device Manager, there is no option for Sound, game and controllers. I have tried downloading the driver and installing, but no luck there.

I have evga motherboard with built in Realtek HD audio (ALC883). Board features 2 ports for digital audio (optical and coaxial). and according to manual both are output. However when installed vista drivers one of the ports has been chosen as digital output (optical) and another as digital input (coax) (i can see that when i hover the mouse over the jacks in "Realtek HD audio manager") Is there any way to make the coaxial port as an output port instead of optical? My my HT reciver has no free optical ports so i have to use coax to get some sound from the computer.

So I mananaged to get my Old HP PSC 500 to work on my HP Pavillion a6030n with VISTA gave up on the scanning part totally. Bought and installed a new I/O card to do this and tinkered for days! NOW, I realize I have NO SOUND searched all of the threads and experimented with various and sundry but to no avail. The speakers were old JBL PROs had been working changed them out for some old BOSTON speakers (also working on old Gateway) still getting the "No Audio Output Device Installed" and don't even get a "Sound and Video" portion in Device Manager!
Tried downloading Realtek AC97-Audio-Codec-driver-A397 as it was mentioned as a fix in another thread. No joy! Will installing another driver help this? I can't see why the card would be damaged as the previous install didn't go near it. I am not a total novice but small words would be helpful as my brainmatter is fried and not a lot of hair left on the head.

Since my recent automatic Windows update, my laptop no longer recognises an audio output device, claiming one is not installed. All troubleshooting guides just tell me to enable the device, which is impossible as it says it is not installed as opposed to simply disabled. I have never had this problem before, as my laptop has in built speakers. how to solve this so I can actually get sound?

so i just got internet to my computer after almost 2 years of it being out of commission, it still worked and we were able to play games like solitaire and the sims but there was no internet hooked up to it. it installed all kinds of updates and one night i was listening to music via wmp and the next day i went to listen and it said "no audio output device is installed"
i tried updating the device and it said that my driver was up to date.
i also tried uninstalling it and rebooting my computer and that didn't work.
i don't see any error messages in the device manager, i clicked the icon with the little magnifying glass and nothing showed up.
i don't know what else i can do, besides take my computer and throw it into traffic.
i have alot of music on this computer that i listen to on a daily basis and would hate to have to switch it all to a new computer, or even buy a new computer for that matter just because my speakers aren't working.

I installed SRS Audio Soundbox on my HP laptop running vista ultimate with Realtek HD audio. It installed a audio device of its own, which I can select under control panel->sound. SRS Soundbox panel is set to start with windows. But I only want to use SRS to process audio coming out of Zoom-Player, so I have setup Zoom Player to use this audio device instead of default Realtek. My problem is that everytime laptop restarts or wakes from sleep (essentially everytime SRS's control panel starts), SRS makes itself the default audio device, which I have to go and change back to Realtek. Is there a way I could lock-up the default device, so it wouldn't change?? or do something else so that Realtek stays the default audio device.
