Photoshop And ESATA, Scratch Disk

May 27, 2008

I'm thinking about getting a Lacie Two Big external 1TB raid 0 hard drive to use as a scratch disk for Photoshop CS3 connected through my eSATA connection on my motherboard (Asus p5B deluxe). Does anyone know if Photoshop will see an eSATA drive and will be able to use it as a scratch disk? Also are eSATA speeds really the same as internal SATA drives?

Vista To Redetect All Hardware From Scratch

Apr 25, 2008

I replaced my motherboard a few months back. Since then a number of drivers have been working intermittently (network works about every other restart, sometimes stops working on wake from standby) and the device manager prevents me from getting rid of certain pieces of hardware, even when not in use or even on the computer. What I would like to do is to have windows clear the hardware "cache" and redetect all the hardware like it would during Windows Setup. This was possible with XP by creating a different hardware profile but the hardware profile feature was removed in Vista. How can I force Vista to redetect all hardware from scratch? I am using Vista Ultimate by the way.

Removing Software Completely And Start Again From Scratch

Jun 15, 2008

I am using Vista Home Premium. I loaded a program (which had a 30 day trial) and because I didn't register it within the 30 days, it won't function. That is understandable. However, I have the disk, registration number and serial number but whenever I uninstall and reinstall the program, it says I have 0 days left and even though I put in the registration details, it ignores it. I am guessing that somewhere in the computer's memory, there is something that says this is not a new installation. How can I completely clean this up and start again from scratch?

Esata On X64 Vista Doesn't See It

Feb 6, 2009

I use an external esata enclosure. When I plug it into my laptop, Vista Ultimate x64 recognises the hotplugging and sees the drive right away, and handles it fine when I switch off. I have a Vista Ultimate x64 desktop using a motherboard without a built esata port. The enclosure came with an esata adapter plate that internally connects to a sata port on the motherboard. This works, but only if I boot the PC up with the external drive switched on first. If I switch it on later, Vista doesn't see it. I understood that sata eand esata were both hot pluggable, so I'm not sure why this is not working. Does the motherboard need a esata port to work with a esata based external hdd enclosure (to allow hotplug capability). I can purchase a PCI express card that provides an esata port, but I don't know if thats going to make a difference.

External Raid Drive Via ESATA

Jun 4, 2008

Just bought (should arrive in a day or so) a Lacie 2Big Dual 1T external raid drive (via eSATA). Just a quick thought, As I plan to use it in a Raid 0 set up do I need to make any adjustments to my bios or install the JMicron drivers so Vista can utilise the raid as well as my other three, non raid, sata drives. I've looked at the manual and doeesn't mention any thing about it. Or is it simply plug it in and forget.

ESATA External Drive Keeps Vanishing

May 27, 2008

Vista 32
ASUS P5KC Mobo
Intel Q6600 CPU
Antec 650 W PSU

Two SATA 320 GB internal drives connected to SATA slots 1 and 2 of 4 An external ASUS eSATA and USB2 enclosure with WD 640 GB SATA hard drive connected to an eSATA port on the computer.

The external eSATA hard drive works fine after a reboot but after a few hours it vanishes and cannot be found by Explorer or the Control panel even though it has not been accessed to modify, delete or add files. A reboot finds the drive and it works again for a while.

I have an eSATA backplate port connected to slot 3 on the mobo. The mobo also has an integral eSATA port on the back. The problem occurs when I connect the external drive to either of these ports.

ESATA Drive Formatted NTFS From XP Installation

Sep 16, 2009

I have an eSATA drive formatted NTFS from my XP installation. Drive works fine from either XP or Linux (multi-boot machine) I had previously tried Vista on the machine but it saw the eSATA drive as unformatted. Gave the message "Do you want to format this drive?"

Very dangerous as an unknowing person may have actually formatted the drive and lost all their data. Interestingly enough, any time I've tried to access the drive, Vista ran a chkdsk on it at the next boot up. CHKDSK from Vista saw it fine and reported no errors. but could not read the drive once booted to the desktop. I eventually gave up on Vista and just did a Win7 install yesterday.

External RAID Through Jmicron Expresscard Esata

Oct 19, 2008

I have an Inspiron 1720 (bad choice in retrospect) that I had been running XP Pro on for quite some time and had created an external RAID with an esata port multiplier. It's an Addonics storage tower with 4 750gb drives in raid 10 and everything worked fine until my internal HDDs kicked the bucket and now that they are replaced, I decided to reinstall using Vista Home Premium 32 bit, got all the drivers and software needed for my raid setup and now the tower shows up, but only as a 373gb unformatted drive.

I've got all the most recent drivers and whatnot from Jmicron but the problem still persists. There was never any problem with XP recognizing the drive and I don't want to try and format the drive especially because of the 500gb or so of data that I can't lose.

Photoshop CS-4 Incompatability 64-bit

Sep 21, 2009

Bought Gateway 64-bit Vista in 1/09, installed Photoshop CS-4 and it has never worked. (9 months of frequent, blue-screen crashes with any fairly large Photoshop files, but also random crashes in everything from simple OS operations to internet operation.) Had computer back to Gateway 4X, and Re-installed CS-4 just as often - bugged both customer service people repeatedly, and they simply blame each other. Tried all sorts of trouble-shooting ops with CS-4 preferences. e.g. Disabled Open GL Drawing - no change. Installed a new NVidia 9500 Graphics card, and still crashing. Someone suggested the problem might be fonts - I did install some, will try uninstalling - but don't know what's original and don't want to re-install the operating system yet again.

Photoshop CS3 And X64 Service Pack 1

Apr 7, 2008

I have recently installed SP1 to my Vista X64 machine (dual core 6700 o/c to 3ghz, 8 gb ram, raptor 10K 74gb system harddrive, raptor 10K 150gb large file and partitioned PS scratch disk, 340 gb 'everthing else' harddrive, nvidia 8800 640mb gts videocard, wacom A3 wide table) and I have noticed really strange behaviour in PS CS3. It generally feels slower and when I work on larger files (183x120cm @300dpi) it's much slower than pre-sp1 on the same file size.

The odd thing I have noticed is that it crashes (fades to white - not responding ) when I use the transform scale tool and when I add a Layer blending effect ( drop shadow / gradient etc ) it never did this before as it used to render it instantly.....now it takes a least 30 sec to 1 min to create and/or recover from the 'not responding' white out screen. Has anyone else found this with PS CS3 and Vista SP1? - It's very annoying especially as I had the system perfect before the SP1 upgrade. How can I fix this?

Photoshop CS3 Has Stopped Working

Apr 28, 2008

So I finally get my new computer in, which is running on my new 64-bit Vista. I install my favorite program, Photoshop CS3, and decide to try it out a bit. It works just fine. Then I decide to install my tablet which comes included with all my photoshop plug-ins. This is where everything gets awesome. As I'm starting back up Photoshop I get hit with this.

If you notice, it freezes right as the plug-ins are being put in. I found out that the life-ruining box invading my startup is called DEP. So I tried to disable it going through the command prompt. Everything happened the way it was supposed to happen. I got some sort of success message, and when I checked the DEP status it said that it was disabled. So I try to start up photoshop again. Still, it pops up. I restart my computer after disabling it again. Still, it pops up. If I'm about to hear that I can't use Photoshop with plug-ins because of this 64-bit crap, I'll send my computer back right now. Is there anything I can possibly do to get this to work?

Impossible To Work On Photoshop?

Feb 9, 2009

- With the Aero theme selected, somme Aero effects are disturbing to work on photoshop. Moving layers is slowered (like the windows of the explorer), it's not much but disturbing for work.

- If I select the Vista Basic theme I don't have this slowing layers issue but I then have a real big LAG/delay problem when painting with the brush on photoshop (this time : impossible to work). I read about this issue on this forum: Photoshop Brush Lag Studdering with Vista But didn't find further solution.

- So logically I tried to select the Aero Theme and deactivate some of the bothering Aero options (Enable deskstop composition/animate windows). But when I do so Vista in fact automatically select the Vista Basic Theme, so I have the lag problem with brush again. Out of solutions, I'm now thinking seriously about installing my old XP license on my new computer, but it seems a bit odd not to be able to work with protoshop properly on Vista ?

Photoshop Elements 6 Cant Boot 64 Bit.

Jul 15, 2009

I have a new computer with Vista Home Premium 64. I installed the software I had been using on my old XP machine, and discovered difficulty with booting up Vista. I found I had to power off and re-power two or three times before it would even get far enough to do a start-up repair. Sometimes even this was not enough to get it to boot up, and I had to switch off and power up again, doing a second start-up repair. Having done the repair, it would then boot up fine, and work normally until shut-down. Next time it was switched on, the same trouble would occur again. So I restored it to factory settings, then reinstalled all the software, only to find the identical problem. I restored to factory settings again, and installed my various bits of software, item by item, shutting down the computer and then powering up again after each install.........

Adobe Is Not Working On A 64 Bit Version Of Photoshop For The Mac OS

Apr 4, 2008

Vista shows that those who run Microsoft are stuck in the Windows 9x mentality of endless upgrade cycles. They failed to grasp that during the adaption of XP, and as a result of the actually quite good quality of XP, computers became a part of everyday personal and business life. The arbitrary changes to the Mac platform have come home to roost: Adobe is not working on a 64 bit version of Photoshop for the Mac OS because of uncertainty about the platform. And Photoshop, if you are a moron about the realities of color management like most Mac users-is the only dubious excuse for the Mac platform to exist.

When Vista came out most people were satisfied with their XP software, boxes and peripherals. Users do not switch stable staples without good reason. Unless they are Mac users. There is no rational, in the sense that Economists define rational, reason for the vast majority of the XP installed base to switch to Vista. There are overarching reasons not to switch to Vista..........

Don't Date Taken Blank Photoshop Files

I have thousands of photos in a variety of formats, including photoshop, and when I look at them using windows explorer (Vista Ultimate, with classic folder view turned on, and “details” chosen from “Views”) the files are listed as Name, Date Taken, Tags, Size, and Rating. I really don’t care about the date taken, which is blank for all PhotoShop files, I want to see the date created, or modified – the way it was displayed in XP. This only happens with folders that are dominated by graphics. Is there a way to replace “Date Taken” with “Date Created?”
