My Windows Update doesn't show me the SP1 download. I went to the support page from Microsoft (Windows Vista Service Pack 1 is not available for installation from Windows Update and is not offered by Automatic Updates) where I snipped this: does that mean I need the driver displayed, or that SP1 doesn't work with the driver displayed?
View 6 RepliesThat is the message I get from the icon in my Vista tray. When I try to manually check for Windows Updates I get the message that I need to "first install an update for Windows Update". When I try to install that update for Windows Update, I get error code 80070643. There is a lot written about Windows Update error 80070643 having specifically to do with restarting the Office Source Engine for Microsoft Office 2003. HOWEVER, I do not have Microsoft Office 2003 installed on my system and this is not my issue! I am quite fearful at this point that I am vulnerable to all sorts of attacks considering that I haven't updated Vista for about 6 months now. This is not good.

I am updating my computer and I thought it was finish but my computer restarts and I encountered the death blue screen. I can't switch into safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with Command Prompt and Last Known good configuration. I don't know how to solve this problem because I can't get into any of the modes and even I inserted the installation disc I can't still see any repair computer or what. It will just turn to blank screen with space at the upper left after if i will insert the installation disc.

View 4 Replies View RelatedThe last time an update was installed was in January..since the next time i was offered an update, Windows Update or any of the programs that use windows update fail to update. Also i can't download the updates manually..standalone msu installers also dont work.. windows defender, IE8 installations also fail to update. And unfortunately i have deleted the recent system restore checkpoints before i knew about this problem. Windows Update gives error 80070002, i have tried the "solution" to delete temp update files, and all other solutions i could find on the internet. Windows defender gives the same error.
The updates can be downloaded from windows update, but cannot be download (not even manually in .msu package) I also lost many shortcut files of MS Office (the icon turned white and they lost their target). Some shortcuts of 3rd party programs are also lost (which were supposed to be in c:windowsinstallerlabla I have Windows Vista Home Basic with SP1 (SP1 came with the ssytem when i bought it). This is very weird. I have no other choice than to reformat drive and use recovery disk.
Should this be coming up as an available update in Windows Update now?

a) Windows Update- Windows update is failing to load any new updates available, after selecting "check for updates" i am responded with an immediate error; it states. View 5 Replies View RelatedIf you have installed Windows Mail on a Windows 7 computer,yesterday's update contains a KB978542 patch which changes msoe.dll so it won't run on Windows 7. I had warned about these types of issues when Win7 was first released. Microsoft claims it was done for security=20 reasons, see To get it working again, replace the new non-working copy of msoe.dll in Windows 7 with a copy of the new patched version of msoe.dll from a Vista machine.=20
Note: I ran into permissions issues when trying to delete the = non-working msoe.dll, so rather than fighting that, I renamed the Win7 Windows Mail directory to "Windows Mail-X", then I copied and pasted the Windows Mail directory from the Vista machine. I suspect that Windows Mail will = become less and less compatible with Win7 as time goes along.=20
I have Windows Vista Home Premium 32-Bit with NO SERVICE PACKS installed.
The only reason is because I can't get Windows Update to install the updates before I can fully install Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (then later 2)..
The problem is, If I run Windows Update, I get a blank screen and then if I wait about a minute or so I'll get something that says
I have a large amount of Updates to install, I think total the update's total to be 200 mb.
I had Windows Vista before and then now re-installed Vista, So I'm positive I don't have any trojans messing with Windows Update.
Also, My Computer also freezes of I hit the the button that says shut off the pc and install updates.
My automatic updates stop downloading since December last year.
I wish to know if there's a limit for support on that in my licence for DELL Inspiron 1501 but I didn't find anything on that matter.
There are 3 drivers that I cannot upgrade too and aren't working and they are on Network on Device Manager of mt Vista Basic and they are:
Microsoft 6to4 Adapter 10
Microsoft 6to4 Adapter 5
Microsoft 6to4 Adapter 7

No update is available and they say it's the best driver, but doesn't work fine!
Is there a reason for it related with the denied of Windows Update ?

SP1 would not appear for me in the Windows Update even though all hardware and software met MS' spec's for Vista. I did upgrade my sound card and software in order to meet spec's.
I decided to download SP1 from MS download page to get the standalone version. After waiting a couple weeks and reading this and other NG's I decided to install SP1. It installed with out a hitch. I didn't need to un-hook USB devices as was recommended in these NG's and I didn't need to disconnect my UPS. Mater of fact SP1 recommends that you connect to a UPS so you won't lose power while installing.
The only things I did disable where Windows Defender Fire walls and Virus autoscan protection. Every thing else was left as is.

I know it was being released "in waves", but shouldn't the US have been first since MS is an American company? There are no errors given. I am trying to install drivers for my graphics card (evga eGeforce 9600 GT in a Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P motherboard) and when i restart I keep getting the Blue Screen of Death so I wanted to make sure and get all the latest Windows updates. The native Windows video driver works fine, but I want to use dual monitors.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have Creative Audigy 2, which according to a KB article, prevents Windows Vista SP1 from being offered in Windows Update. I read somewhere (I think it was a user comment on the Windows Vista Team Blog) that the only problem with the blacklisted drivers is that they effect SP1 setup, so temporarily disabling or uninstalling them will allow users to install SP1. Reinstalling the drivers afterwards should be fine. Is that correct? Well, I've disabled my onboard multimedia audio controller, uninstalled all Creative software on my computer and uninstalled the problematic driver. After rebooting and checking Windows Update again, I still do not see SP1, but I did see the Creative Audio driver as a recommended update, so I chose to make it _hidden_.
I'm certain that I have installed _all_ required and recommended updates (except for the Creative Audigy 2 driver that I just uninstalled). I've even installed those updates that I had hidden previously - one update was even related to iPod, which I don't have, but I installed it anyway. The only update that I haven't installed (other than my audio driver) is an optional update that I really hope isn't the problem: SQL Server 2005 Books Online. i'm having problems starting up my windows vista.. when i turn my laptop on there's a screen that comes up showing "configuration updates: stage 3 of 3 - 0% complete" and after a couple of seconds my computer shuts down, restarts and does the process all over continuously with no option of cancelling this process....

View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently ran a registry cleaner program (I think it was called pc tools or something) which also optimises your computer blah de blah. Anyway, after I Optimised it and cleaned the registry, I can no longer access windows update. When I try to open it, a window very quickly pops up and then promptly disappears. I tried uninstalling the program to undo the changes, but I think that was a wrong move. Update still doesn't work. I went to do a system restore, but that has also stopped working. Same thing, a window flashes up but then disappears. Also, when I right click on my desktop and click "personalise", the same problem occurs. Also if I go to Control Panel-System. I tried doing a windows repair but it said that there were no problems found. I would really like to avoid doing a full format and re-install because this computer is used at reception of the hotel my wife and I manage and any downtime with the computer can be a real pain in the backside with online bookings etc.
when I go to the update, it asks me to check for an update after that it asks me to update windows vista update. when I go to download the windows vista update it errors me. I have had a read through the update logs, and the error code I am getting is : 0x800b0001. A quick google lead me to belive that this was a problem with cryptographic service provider: Error code when you try to use Windows Update or Microsoft Update to install updates: "0x800B0001". anyway, I tried both of the fixes listed on the page and to no avail. When I tried the software fix, it proceeds to the update, but just pauses about 75% in. when I tried the registering .dll option, the .dll registered but the computer still does not update.

1.) A week ago Brink said SP1 was not available through Windows Update( WU ), while at the same time .Joe indicated it was available in website and WU. ( I read those threads .)
2.) Someone said something about driver not upgraded and therefore it was not offered in the WU for those users. Does that mean I'm one of those?
3.) .Joe said that there are 2 prequisites for installing SP1 (it's from the same thread I mentioned .)
a) First prerequsite includes updates to the servicing stack, which I never saw it in WU.
b) 2nd includes updates required to reliably install or uninstall the service pack, which I never saw in WU either.
4.) We all saw the " horror stories " posted in this forum regarding problems during installing and after installing SP1. It got me worried.
5.) I still do not see SP1 offered in WU, optional or otherwise.
Vista Basic Machine started running very slowly and when I looked in Task Manager svchost.exe was using a 100% CPU. Using system internals process explorer it???s the network service containing crytsvc, dnscach, KtmRm, NlaSvc, Tapisrv and Termservice. Looking inside the thread that is using the CPU is ntdll.dll
I???ve ran all virus and spyware checkers I can and all show no problems. I've booted in safe mode and cleared all the softwaredistribution folder. The slow running does not affect safe mode but as the service is not started no great surprise. Windows Update doesn't work in safe mode either, thanks Microsoft. I tried to update AVG virus checker but it wanted KB929547 applied so I downloaded it and tried to run but after several hours all I got was install failed with 0x800706bb

I have been update it several times. now I want to reinstall the windows and go back to my laptop's factory configuration. the question is: how can I save my updates? View 7 Replies View RelatedI have Windows Vista X64 Ultimate and every time i want to format my hard drive and reinstall Vista, i need to remove 2 gigs of RAM, since i get a blue screen during the installation of Vista because i have 4 gigs of RAM. So i need to then get this update "Windows6.0-KB929777-v2-x64.msu". My question is.....is there anyway to integrate this update into a back up copy of my Vista disc?. It's abit anoying to keep removing 2 gigs every time i want to install Vista.
