This seems to be a knowledgable board, so I thought I would present my questions/problems to you all. I ran XP (32bit) With my single 8800gtx fine, and yesterday upgraded to 8800gtx's in SLI, along with the Vista Ultimate x64 upgrade. I unistalled the drivers from the video card, and the newest drivers after I installed the SLI setup. I don't remember the numbers but I tried the newest beta and certified drivers for Vista 64. When I play WoW (Shame on me I know), The game runs great and incredibley fast, but I get crashes when running it in SLI mode and running 2 versions of WoW at the same time (I previously had done this without SLI before with no problems in XP). That was fine with me, I just switched it back to Single GPU mode for WoW, and all was fine, and I just switched it back to single GPU and I can run 2 copies of WoW perfecetly now.
My real problem lies when I try to play Crysis. The game is patched, but when I get to load up the first level, most of the time my screen will go black and say "Monitor Entering Power save Mode," and every once in a while it will start the first level, then hard lock after about 5 seconds. The power save seems to be the main problem. I tried disabling the monitor power save all together, but even with it disabled it still happens. Anyone have any thoughts? I think perhaps its just the drivers, but it's becomming quite frustrating to me, as I've tried the newest betas/normals.
Build 19 error. I am getting an error message "Build 19 has stopped working". Does anyone know what this error is and how to resolve it? I have a language program that I purchased and when I try to "Print" a group of lists or flash cards with this program, I am getting this message in a box that says "Microsoft Windows" in the upper left blue area with this message in the white boxed area. It goes on to Say "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the programand notify you if a solution is available. "But Windows is not notifying me of any solution. And I can't print and it then closes the program. I contacted company and they recommended I uninstall and reinstall the program which I did and the same issue continues to occur. I have Windows Vista Home Basic so I wonder if there is something in Windows Vista causing this and where can I find a fix.
my windows vista is not working! yesterday it was ok but today when i turned on my computer it was not working and nothing is coming out. it says that invalid product key and BUILD 6000 or something like that. How am i gonna fix it?i can't even see my desktop. its just black desktop and nothings coming out
Searching AVG site shows these msgs are security/privilege related so tried executing the downloaded .exe file by clicking on run in administrator mode with same results. Then tried running it with the hidden administrator ID with the same results.
I'm building a new PC for my folks and I'm not sure which version of Vista I should install for them. They do a bit more than just check email. My dad likes his audio apps (iTunes, mixing programs, etc) and likes to tinker a bit with different programs. I've bought them 4GB of RAM because it's so cheap at the moment and my dad wants this to be a PC that will last them for several years to come. My question is, should I put them on Vista 64-bit or 32-bit? I know that the 32-bit version will only see about 3.2GB of the RAM I got, and I don't want to have to reinstall everything for them in the near future. Is Vista 64-bit "there" yet? Or is it still for advanced users only? Should I play it safe I install the 32-bit version even though it may be outdated soon (and not see all the RAM), or will 32-bit be the way forward for a few years yet to come?
Reference MS Article ID 555910, dated 3 April, 2007. How TO: Enable the build-in Administrator account in Windows Vista. I would very much appreciate a clarification regarding Administrator Accounts or profiles. I am planning to purchase a new Dell XPS 630 computer with Vista Business in the next month or two. I am trying to become familiar with Vista before I receive the computer. If I understand it correctly, when the first bootup is made with the new computer, a user account is created that has administrator privileges. According to the above referenced article, there is a build-in Administrator account. Also in this article, under the Applies To: Heading, it does mentions only Windows Vista Home Premium and Windows Vista Starter. However, I have seen some postings or internet articles mentioning the built-in Administrator account, not clarifying what versions of Vista that it applies to.
Question: When I receive my new Dell computer and complete the initial bootup, the new user account, and final install, will that be the only User Account on the computer with Administrator privileges?
Suddenly tonight my Windows Vista Ultimate OS stated that I had only fourteen days left of my evaluation period. This is crazy, because I bought this full version earlier this year, and I am 100% sure I activated it over the net. When slipping the computer the original disk, after a while I says that upgrade is disabled, and that I have to do a clean install. Are those guy at MS completely gone off the walls? Is there a way I can reactivate it?Does anyone know what might have happened?I can vaguely remember some downloading from a MS site to try out something, and after that the message came low and right on my screen stating "Windows Vista (TM) Evaluation version. Build 6001"I can't do a clean install now!I fought for months to get everything to work.Damned if I go through that again!Of course it is my fault. I should have read the small print (if there was any?!).But changing a legit version into a evaluation version without any proper repetitive warnings,is absurd!
I cant activate Vista ultimate 6.6000 build. when i am activating operating system it showing error 0xC004E003 and when i am trying changing product key it is also not working and trying phone but there no option for that
This is my first post as a new member so please forgive me if this is not an appropriate thread. My problem is that I have recently built a new rig with vista 64 HP as the O/S but cant seem to get it to stabilise with 4 Gigs of memory. The system is fine with 2 and 3 Gigs but becomes unstable with 4 Gigs when running process hungry applications such as COD 4. The game will freeze and if I drop out through task manager the screen is then full of graphical glitches.
I have changed the RAM several times and after the system has become unstable I have had it tested and it wasnt corrupted. First try was, OCZ 4 Gig Kit (2x2048). Second try was, Corsair 4 Gig Kit (2x2048). Not sure if one of the Motherboard RAM Module Channels may be at fault as I have had a lot more success with 1 Gig sticks.
I recently ordered 500 Vista desktops and 150 Vista laptops from a vendor preloaded with a RTM edition of Vista Business. When we started loading Office 2007 this week, the Windows Installer stopped four times with errors. Vista gave a message saying we should upgrade to the retail version of Vista (I wish I could send a screenshot). After checking the build level we saw it was build 6000. My team checked some MSDN blogs and saw build 6000 is not viewed as a genuine Vista build. What do I do?! If this is the case, I'm not going to be able to meet my SLA with my Enterprise users.
I finished building my first computer this morning, and installed vista home premium 64 OEM to finish it off. Specs are:
Asus P5N E SLI 8600GT Corsair 4gb 800mhz q6600 Quad Core
I've updated the bios to the latest version, and have put all drivers on but Vista keeps crashing. It freezes for no apparent reason. I've been using Vista HP (32) on my 2yr old laptop with no problems (I'm using it to type to you all now), and I'm lost as to what is wrong. I've had a very brief look around and it sounds like another user on here has had a similar problem, but as I've just built the whole system I'm wondering if there's anything I've missed which is causing it to crash/freeze/generally be unresponsive?
Windows Vista Service Pack 2 Build 16489. Microsoft has begun testing Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2) and intends to ship this release in the second quarter of 2009. Note that there are no new features in SP2; this is a more typical service pack that aggregates previously-released fixes. Here are some screenshots from the first external build of SP2, build 16489. Read more at the source.
i know that water cooling is less noisy, takes up less room and cools more efficiently. but how much do the temperatures drop on average from standard air coolers? i want to have a go at decent overclocking when i build my new rig (not what it drops down to, how much it cools down )=
Days after the leak of build 7022 (32-bit) to public torrent sites, WinFuture.de has posted a screenshot clearly showing a 64-bit Enterprise edition of build 7032. We already know of a build 7034, but this is significant because there have been no screenshots or any other tangible proof of any of the 703x builds. The screenshot shows the following build string: "'6.1.7032.0.winmain.090129-1812," meaning that the build was compiled on January 29, 2009 at 6:12PM. Since it is an interim build, it's not surprising that the screenshot shows the build expiring on July 2, 2009.
Other than the new build number, the screenshot (full-size image) does not show too much. A date is shown in the bottom left in a European format, but all this shows is that the screenshot was taken today. There appears to be a new icon in the taskbar, but it's not clear what it's for. IE8 is still at RC1, which is not surprising. The user has Hibernate set as the default for the power button in the start menu, but this doesn't necessarily mean Microsoft has changed it from Shut Down.
Anyone who has tried to install .NET Framework 1.1 in Vista build 5456 knows that it just throws an error during install. Aaron Stebner has posted instructions on how to work around this issue on his MSDN Blog. Click below to view his post.
This is what happened, i installed 5308 on a fresh clean hard disk that has no previous errors and by all accounts is in a good working order. I ran the install from the DVD drive during boot, then carried out a full new install on to the clean disk, The install process proceded with out error, however the installer finished copying data to the hard drive and started its reboot sequence. at this point my computer fails to boot. Im not talking about corrupt boot sectors im talking about serious issue thats stopping my compter from finishing its POST. i am unable to access the BIOS, i am unable to change the boot order using the built in boot selector program.
The POST sequence gets up to detecting the IDE drives, it then tells me the name and model number of the connected drives and tells me SMART is active and ok, at this point the system fails POST with no error messages. If i disconnect the drive in question the system will post correctly and will boot to my other SATA drives. I have tried new cables, i have tried changing drive between master and slave, and primary and secondery controlers.....
I just built a new machine. It is identical to a co-workers machine that has zero issues with the OS. I get "Windows Failed to Start." Doesn't work in safe mode, either. Repair doesn't work. Here's the log that it spits out:

I recently purchadsed a computer and have been using it for about three weeks. Yesterday i had a message that my Windows Vista was not genuine and needed to re-enter the product key. I did that from the sticker on the copmuter, but I still have a littel message in the bottom right of my desktop screen that says "Windows Vista BUild 6000 This copy of Windows is not genuine". What do i Do about that?
WHAT COMPUTER SYSTEM AM I USING?: Windows Vista Home Premium with 64-bit Operating System. WHEN DID THINGS GO WRONG?:around the 1st October 2009. WHAT IS NOT ORKING?:my latest 32-bit version of Mozilla Firefox when connected to the internet. my latest 32-bit version of Internet Explorer when connected to the internet. my latest 32-bit version of Opera when connected to the internet. my Skype. WHAT IS WORKING?:my latest 32-bit version of Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Opera when viewing a web page that is on my computer (html pages which I have made for example). my 64-bit version of Internet Explorer. my internet connection. here are pictures of what happens when these applications are not working:
My college aged daughter's laptop formerly worked fine but now has odd networking issues which prevent the system from browsing the internet. The system correctly obtains a DHCP address and is able to ping by name, can correctly run AIM and Microsoft Sidebar but still can not connect the IE7.0 Browser to the internet.
I have read a ton of links here within the Network and Sharing group but I haven't seen anything quite like this before. Even though the I know better, I still went through the exercise of testing for DNS issues as well as the often suggested MTU test but there weren't any issues. I have completely shut off the Microsoft Firewall to no avail. The system came with a free trial of Norton Internet Security but after it expired, I loaded a Symantec/Norton Antivirus (NAV 10.1) and did a complete virus scan which produced nothing. I also did a full spyware scan which also didn't locate any serious malware......
I am using a windows Vista 32 bit home premium notebook computer for which the wireless network detection has stopped working. I updated the driver for the built in wireless card with out any results. I also tried a plug in wireless card which windows detected and said was working properly and this did not work either. This leaves me to believe that something is wrong with the OS. I can get on the internet via dialup modem and also by the ethernet connection with a DSL modem. I have been to several hotspots that I know have wifi and no networks show up. All critical windows updates have been installed.
Lately when I've tried looking at different folders and files on my hard drives I keep getting "Windows Explorer has stopped working and will restart." It's driving me nuts, I can barely do anything. Also, same thing with Internet Explorer...I'm getting real sick of Vista's shoddiness..
By now it should be obvious that, under the Vista operating system, I have Home Premium, there is a severe overall, general "has stopped working" problem.
Thus far I've experienced: "Internet Explorer has stopped working" "Windows Explorer has stopped working" "Word has stopped working" "Sherlock Holmes Nemesis (Adventure Company) has stopped working" "Outlook has stopped working" "Acid 4.0 (Sony) has stopped working" "Acid 6.0 (Sony) has stopped working" "Sound Forge (Sony) has stopped working"
Is it not obvious by now that Vista has a problem, maybe a compatability problem, with everything from Internet Explorer and Microsoft Word to third party programs which cause programs, as I mentioned, even programs made by Microsoft, to "stop working"? Is there no an overall "stopped working" patch or something that Microsoft has released by now?...............
All of a sudden some of my programs stopped working, for example catalyst control center is supposed to start as soon as vista starts, but now it gives me an error like:
"CCC.exe has stopped working"
Same with some others...
Yes i ran AVG, i ran malware, and superantispyware, none of them finds anything.
I cant even load daemon tools now, it gives me some error: "Engine loading was failed", cant uninstall it, it gives me another error, and some of the programs like netlimiter if i start them from my objectdock dock they automaticly stop working, only when i start them from the normal .exe they dont crash.
I installed IE8 a couple of weeks ago, and it totally messed up my email. I went back to IE7. I tried it again today after getting a Windows Update labelled "Important". As it said that it was "Windows IE8 for Vista", I thought it was worth trying. Wrong! The bugs are not worked out It changed my home page to "Road Runner", despite the fact that my carrier is Verizon! I once again went back to IE7. I will not try IE8 again until I read somewhere on here that the bugs have been worked out!
dont give me any cds or hardcopies or anything, and me being stupid failed to make backup disks prior to this problem. well anyways the last few weeks my computer has been running less and less stable, it was at a point where i could barely run my computer i kept getting the windows explorer has stopped working problem. after a ton of research and tweaking i was able to fix that problem but now since then my computer has been failing to load shortcuts, constantly gets random <operation name> has stopped working messages, and my firefox experience has greatly diminished.
I am almost 100% this is a system files problem, so i tried to run the sfc and it gets to 3% validation then stops and says it cannot continue, it doesnt say why it just stops. Ive run ChkDisk several times, defragged, ran registry cleaners adware and virus scanners so many times my head is going to fall off. other things that have happened include, unable to uninstall programs, World of Warcraft became corrupted, cannot use the find function in firefox (Ctrl+F: it makes firefox stop responding) other than these things vista runs efficient and well its just these errors keep popping up.
I've had this problem quite a few times with Vista 64 now and some of my friends did as well. IE 32bit or any other browser will not work. windows live messenger, video games etc, nothing works except for IE 64bit. restoring to the last windows update always fixed it but now Im facing a new situation. I installed a new version of Vista Ultimate x64, this time with SP1 from the start and I had this problem from the very begining so I can't really use system restore.
tried reinstalling, googled for hours, searched this forums for a few more hours and I couldn't find anything for this specific problem. tried to Reset IE, reinstall IE, /renew and /release ipconfig as admin, nothing works.
