I have read many posts on memory space and addressing, but haven't found anything that answers my question....I have 8Gb fitted, but on checking it's useage, it appears that the max I have seen in use is less than 3Gb. The swapspace and paging file are being used - why ? when I have plenty of memory left unused ? Is there a way I can force Vista to use more physical memory (which is faster), rather than perform swapping.

View 4 Replies View RelatedThe PC has been losing memory at an alarming rate and now the remaining C disc space is at 257kb. We both regularly clear Temp Internet Files, and now only have programs installed that we use. There are only myself and my boy who use this PC, the other 3 kids have another to use, and between us we only have aroung 6 gigs worth of stuff on it, photo's and music mainly. We even took it back to the original factory settings earlier in the year due to this problem, but it started happening again almost straight away. I have AVG installed for anti-virus and Comodo firewall, after trawling the net I get the impression that this is not a virus-based problem but a setting anomaly?

Win XP Pro had this option also, but, it's default was like vista (pictures showing all users).
I have been able to get the ctrl+alt+del part but instead of the login box I still get pictures.
I have a 320 GB HD. When I checked it, I only have 25 gigs of free space. However I can only find about 180 gigs of files/data. Any ideas as to how I lost 100 gigs of available of space? Just a couple of weeks ago I checked and I had plently of space. No recent installs, only recent changes are the removal of Mcaffee monitoring software and running JkDfrag.
View 9 Replies View Relatedi reformatted my whole c drive and then clean installed vista ultimate onto it and at start i had 268Gb out of 274Gb. now its gone to 243Gb and i've only installed a couple of programs and when i highlight everything in the c drive it says its 7.38GB. I've Defragged it a lot of times and the space keeps on going down.

I had 4GB physical memoryon the PC. With Windows vista 32 bit, available memory is shown as 3.3GB. I asked and was told that only under 64 bit windows, will the available memory be 4GB. When I upgraded to windows 7, I chosed 64 bit, but the available memory shown in the system is still 3.3 GB. Why is this and is there a way to make the full 4GB available? It's possible that my video card is using RAM instead of its own RAM. If I install a video card with its own RAM, will the full 4GB be available?

I have noticed an svchost.eve process runs each time I reboot which seems to bloat constantly although when I close it down it only frees up about 800MB, what's happening to the rest of my 8GB??? When I launch Task Manager it says I'm only using 10% Memory but free RAM sits at 0?!?!

The machine is new, and I was trying out some apps and games, I was in Secondlife when I got an error messege saying I was out of memory and needed to free up memory. I shut down the app and restarted it. Runs but I watched Task manager and saw my free memory down to almost nothing after an hour or so. The cached seems very high.
I did alittle research and decided to set a second page file on my 1TB hard drive, (OS is on the other HHD's )( regulated by system for size ) I'm not really sure whats going on. Example of just task manager and this page openis attached. Again, any help would be great in getting the memory set up on here optimal.
I have 6gigs of DDR3 memory at 1600hz. Running on Vista 64bit and every now and again my memory performance just maxes out. The problem can occur around the time when I am installing something but I dont think its always this way. I have read forums where it could be the hardrives performing self diagnostics. I have all the latest patches for vista.

Windows is reporting 8 GB of Installed Physical Memory but is reporting only 4 GB of Total Physical Memory. I first noticed this when, after installing a game, the game system specs said 3092 MB of RAM.
I have checked the BIOS and it recognizes 8 GB. Memory Remapping is Enabled. Under Memory Remapping is "PCI MMIO Allocation: 4GB to 3328 MB" (?). MSConfig Boot Options shows Max Memory is not checked and no value in the box below. I tried enabling it and using 8192 as the value, but it made no difference. DxDiag shows 8 GB installed RAM. how I can get windows to make available all 8 GB of RAM? I have two Vista machines, one Ultimate x64 and one Business x64 both on the same LAN. The Ultimate machine has already installed SP1 (albeit unsuccessfully) but the Business machine (which is a Dell laptop) is still not seeing any update for SP1. do I have to do to get SP1 on this machine?

I've installed a few games and both games are giving 2 errors saying that "This application has failed to start because WINMM.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem". This pops up twice, and then the game starts and seems to work without any issues.

After some searching around the web it was suggested that I update DirectX. However, it appears that I am running the most recent version, DirectX 10. I am reluctant to update something that appears to be up to date.
It is true that d3dx9_40.dll is missing, but some of the suggestions I found on the web indicate that I should not merely download this dll. I am not a big gamer, just wanted to look at this game, and am reluctant to spend hours and hours reconfiguring my system, but I would like to know why I am getting this error and why DirectX 10 doesn't include d3dx9_40.dll.I apologize if this is addressed elsewhere, I looked and didn't find anything that directly addresses this question.
I have a Fujitsu Siemens laptop with 120GB hard drive. My problem is, there is only 78.2GB space left on it. I have hardly anything on it really so I am wondering where is has all gone. I have turned off the system restore and then turned it back on. I have run CCleaner, defragmented, done disk cleanup, so I dont know what to do next. I ran TreeSize and according to that there is 13,243.3MB taken up in the Windows folder and 10,099.7MB taken up in the Users folder, all the rest of the folder dont have that much in. Can anyone shed any light on this problem and tell me if I can safely delete any of these files to free up some disk space.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a different partition for the recovery. i was doing a windows re-install for another back-up I stuck some of my files in the recovery partition side of the hard drive. When you explored that partition, they would be there like on the normal hard drive.
Once i re-installed windows i went in to find the files and they are gone. But, they are still taking up the space on the hard drive. a few of the small files i tried to put in thre again and it said it was already there, but it's not. I don't need those files, i just want to delete them from that partition so i can free up the space. They are not hidden files either, i checked that. How could they be gone but still take up space?
I am running VISTA Ultimate. After my computer is restarted the INTERNET can't be found until I restart my LINKSYS router. I never have to restart the router when my XP computers are restarted. I am connected to the router by network cable rather than wireless. Of course when I restart my router then the VISTA computer eventually finds the INTERNET. I would rather not restart my router every time the VISTA computer is rebooted.

View 7 Replies View RelatedWhen i bought the laptop the there were 3 partitions, due to the two seperate hard drives, i used Drive C:/ for all of my programs and just school files. Drive D:/ is for music and movies, and E:/ are the standard HP recovery discs that come on the Hard drive. Yesterday when i turned on my computer i got a message telling me i had low disk space on drive D:/. But i don't have that much on it. The day before i still had 160gb free on that drive. It has just all a sudden become filled.
I have run symantec antivirus, windows defender, ad-aware, and ccleaner to try to fix the problem. I have also defragged the drive, and gone in and manually looked at all of the hidden and system protected files. I see no reason that the frive should be full, because all the most i have on that drive is 60gb.
