Internet Explorer 8 Stop Working
May 2, 2009Every time I shut down the internet I get a message stating internet has stopped working this is very annoying. Does anyone have any idea how to correct this?

Feb 5, 2010I recently ran memory diagonistic tool and also timing a boot time with .vbs file and after this my computer booting speed became fast, but now when I try to play online game explorer stopped working message is keep popping up and I had this problem when I first got my laptop. I researched and adds-on might cause this problem. But I'm not sure what casue this problem right now. Also I dowloaded microsoft word viewer casue I needed it wuickly. So after I downloaded the viewer I had 6 windows updates that are related to this program. Do u guys think this caused the problem? I checked some tips how to speed up my laptop's performance I saw "how to Enable or Disable the Receive Window Auto Tuning Level in Vista" and I saw that the auto tuning was highly restricted (see the attachment). Does this prevent the internet go slow? cause i'm having problems where I can't load some videos fast.

Nov 16, 2008My username downloads folder would immediately cause explorer to stop working and restart, so I was unable to do anything with my downloaded files. I don't believe I downloaded any harmful things but something was up with the files so I wanted to delete them anyway. My only option was to completely delete the downloads folder, and now I don't know how to get one back. I saw on a separate forum to type shell:downloads (enter) in the start search but this only brought up a window saying the search had no results. I hope to get a new username downloads folder that gets the files when I download from firefox, obviously simply creating a folder won't work

May 15, 2008Everytime I try to open up the control pane, Vista tells me that Windows Explorer has stopped working, then restarts it.
I'm using Business Ultimate 64bit. I've run sfc /scannow several times.

That's about it. Default BIOS setup.I tried running 'msconfig' and disabling all Non-Microsoft Services and all Startup items.
Interestingly enough, when I boot into Safe Mode I can access the Control Panel just fine. I don't know what that means.. I'm new to this, I'm a Mac user by default.
Explorer Stop Working When Browsing Pics
Jan 31, 2009Every time I try to upload a picture to, for example, facebook, or I try to attach a picture from my pictures file to an email, I start browsing, get to my pictures, and three seconds later, Internet Explorer stops working, telling me it has encountered a problem (it never tells me what) and then restarts. I have lost entire emails this way, plus I can never browse my pictures when I am online! It might happen to other documents (like Word) as well, I have never tried.

What happens is all the windows and tabs at the bottom of the screen stop working and kind of migrate to the bottom left all mashing together making everything practically useless. Apr 1, 2008After fighting to get rid of a Trojan horse virus, I am missing the internet browser. E-mail works OK. Clicking 'Internet' icon gets me the message 'Internet Explorer has stopped working:". I tried 'restore' but it is not working either. I get the message 'an unspecified error occurred during system restore'. I scanned with AVG and the files it scanned are clean. I have a 'restore' DVD made by the computer vendor but when I stick it in the CD drive nothing happens. The computer is a 1 year old ACER with VISTA home premium preinstalled. How do I proceed from here? I have no idea what to do.

"Outlook has stopped working"
"Acid 4.0 (Sony) has stopped working"

Is it not obvious by now that Vista has a problem, maybe a compatability problem, with everything from Internet Explorer and Microsoft Word to third party programs which cause programs, as I mentioned, even programs made by Microsoft, to "stop working"? Is there no an overall "stopped working" patch or something that Microsoft has released by now?...............

May 23, 2009I've described my problem in the attachment. I rarely use Internet Explorer so can't be sure that it died with the installation of the new motherboard drivers but it seems likely. Odd, though, that I can still use IE on Win7 (I'm 'dual boot' at the moment).
I've done a Vista System Restore but to no avail. how to revive IE to Vista and cure that strange bug on the Context Menu (when right clicking on Start Menu and Desktop icons)?

Internet Explorer Security Not Working
May 4, 2008My computer must be infected. New Internet pages starts up continuously with advertizing and in particular urging me to download and install ???AntiSpywareSuite???. Warning windows with the text ???Windows Internet Explorer??? at the top of frame, also pop ups asking me: Do you want to install AntiSpywareSuite to scan your PC for malware now? (Recommended) I already have Microsoft malware and spyware protection running along with the latest Symantec antivirus suite. I have also run Lavasoft???s Ad Aware and removed all cookies and removed the latest programs that I have installed, but nothing has helped. I am running Vista Business.

Jun 14, 2009My computer automatically downloaded Internet Explorer 8 last week. So far I am not impressed! I have found that it does not load some sites (eg. Facebook and sometimes Google), or takes an age for it to load them up. Sometimes when IE8 is loading up iteslf, it goes to a page saying 'Internet Connection Problem" or something in the top left corner. I wonder if there is a new download patch (is that what it is called?!) or something that can resolve this problem, or some way that I can revert to Internet Explorer 7?

I've tried all the suggestions I have found to date (including uninstalling OneNote, repairing registry issues etc etc) and I still can't get the damn thing to work. Oct 25, 2009I try to enter into this chatroom on a discussion forum I frequent I get that stupid message box that says "Internet Explorer has stopped working" it shows a litle progress bar under it and says "Windows is checking for a solution" but all it ever comes up with is another box that says "A propgram has caused this program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
I had no problem entering the chat room on my other computer a Dell Inspiron E1705 but that one is now dead and I am currently using a Dell XPSm1730 running Vista Home Premium. I tried deleting my browsing history and re-downloading/installing Java but it doesn't seem to do any good.

Mar 29, 2009I've been getting this error message whenever I try to delete a website or folder from my Favorites. I can click close program and my homepage comes back up. Check online for a solution does nothing. I looked at the details and realized I was running IE 7.0.6001.1800 so I downloaded IE 8, but the problem persists. Right now the only way I can make it happen is by trying to delete something in my Favorites folder, but it has just come up randomly a few times. I googled "Internet Explorer has stopped working" and got lots of pages where other users are having the same problem, suggesting various fixes, but none has worked for me so far. Hope I didn't make a mistake by downloading IE8!

Mar 21, 2009I wasn't quite sure if IE8 was the culprit, but it became apparent once I removed it. Internet Explorer 8 interferes with the functionality in Windows Explorer for Vista. Say for example: With IE8 installed, open up "Computer". Close it, then open it again. It should be instantaneous. But its not. A window will take over to 10 seconds to show its initial contents. Once its open though, its very fast because the instance is already running. But once it closes it will take another 10 seconds to open again. Internet Explorer 8 itself opens up very slowly even after the first opening. Can any Vista users verify this?
1. Install IE8
2. Go: Start > click Computer
3. Close that Window.
4. Repeat step 2.
Is it an instantaneous opening or does the window take more than 5 seconds to populate? Repeat those steps with opening Internet Explorer. Is it the same? If so, welcome to the club. Does Microsoft have any way to report this bug to developers?
