IE7 User Agent Tool

Dec 19, 2006

Microsoft has a great tool that will change our IE7 User Agent to make it appear that you are visiting a website with IE6.  This tool is designed to help users that need to visit a website that may be incompatible with the IE7 user agent.....

Internet Explorer 7 User Agent Tweaking Tool

Oct 18, 2006

To enable you to workaround any remaining sites that block access to Internet Explorer 7, we developed the User Agent String Utility.  The utility comes in the form of a small executable that opens an IE7 instance that sends the IE6 user agent string.  It also provides a mechanism for you to report problem web sites to Microsoft so that we can follow up with the affected site owners.  Please download the tool and give it a try....

Any Version Of Agent Mail.ru.?

Mar 26, 2008

1. Installing Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (944533) stops IE7 (in Windows Vista x64 Ultimate) from showing web pages. Uninstalling the Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (944533) resumes IE7 showing web pages.

2. Any version of Agent mail.ru. I checked everything the Agent mail.ru support suggested. The support does not know what to suggest any more.

Sep 5, 2009

Does anyone out there have any information on how to get rid of the spyware Trojan.Win32.Agent.azsy that we downloaded onto our Vista laptop? Most websites either force you to pay for a solution or tell you to remove files--files which don't exist in the first place.

Cannot Delete "Backdoor: Win32 Agent" File

Apr 12, 2008

Windows Defender has found a "Backdoor:Win32 Agent" but when I ask to have it removed I receive error '0x80501001', couldn't complete the action successfully. I have located the file on my external hard drive and have tried to delete it manually (using right click from the mouse). Apparently the file is successfully deleted but when I go back into the folder it has re-appeared.

User Admin Previous User Missing

Mar 26, 2008

[This is my second post on the same subject. The first thread died] I had this Vista Home Basic machine working okay, but the power went out and then another person who was high used the machine. They named a new user as administrator. I don't know what else they did.

Now I have a new user as administrator and the previous users are gone. I still see evidence of them in the file tree but the old programs are gone and the documents are buried in C > Users > Admin (that was a name of a previous user that I had named when I first got the machine) I've gradually installed some of my old programs and I'm currently
just rebuilding everything, but it would be a lot easier if I could revert to the old user system. The Control Panel > add or remove user accounts is useless. I only have two icons there So is there anyway to return to the original condition? How can I recover the missing users?

Administration: User Name In Task Manager Under User Shows Up As "BOBLAFAYETTE Est"

Feb 6, 2009

Received my computer back yesterday from HP with reinstalled clean version of Vista Home Premium. It came back with a user name of 'test'. I attempted to change the name to my name "Bob Lafayette" and the user name in task manager under user shows up as "BOBLAFAYETTE est". In System Information the user name shows as BOBLAFAYETTE est

In user profiles the administrator shows as Bob Lafayette. The computer name shows as "BobLafayette." Computer description shows as "Bob's Computer." How can I amend the user name in task manager to reflect solely "BobLafayette"? Without the "test"?

64 Bit: Upgrade Tool?

Jun 4, 2009

Right now i'm running vista ultimate with a Q6600 and 4 gigs of ram. but i do graphics professionally and video a LOT so the memory is maxed out already. I'd like to prepare for the future with the 64 bit. i'm considering upgrading from a 32 bit to a 64 when Win7 is released later this year. with what i've researched already, i think my system should be able to handle it ok, but i was wondering if there were any kind of software tools that would check a system and advise what will NOT handle it. along the lines of the vista upgrade tool that was available.

X64 Just Tool Tip On Computer.

Jan 5, 2009

i just got windows Vista Home Premium X64 a couple days ago and so far i have just a couple problems that i can't figure out. Well first of all i can't get the switching between windows thing to work correctly. My Girlfriend has Vista Home Premium also but she has 32 bit. But on hers the switching between windows is the live tabs of each window. And also when you hover the mouse over a minimized window on the taskbar its shows a live icon window of that window, but on mine it's just a tool tip. Another thing is i cannot change my colors of my taskbar and active windows. On my girlfriends PC when you go to the control panel and go to customize then colors it shows some different colors and it changes the taskbar as well as the windos but on mine its way different when you go to change the colors. And one last little question I have read about the Aero thing.. not sure exactly what it is.. i think its a theme right? well i don't have it under my themes list.

Tool Bar Does Not Show Up

Aug 10, 2009

Issues With Vista Windows Mail And IE Explorer, About a week ago when I clicked on internet explorer (v.7) to get on the internet, it would time out and not even bring up the white page. After troubleshooting everything without results, I downloaded Firefox and began using that temporarily. I had tried to download IE v 8 with no luck.. Now when I try to send an email, windows mail will not allow me to put the cursor down where the message is to be written.

I also discovered that if I ran IE “Run as Administrator” it will work, but will not allow me to use the cursor to input text, like in a google search etc. I was going to go into options on internet explorer and reset to default settings, but the tool bar does not show up?? I tried to download IE v 7 and got a message that it was incompatible with my OS! Got the same message when I tried to download IE v8 again. I don’t know if all these issues are related or not.

Update Readiness Tool

May 29, 2009

I thought this might help people who are having problems updating Vista. This article describes the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista-based computers and for Windows Server 2008-based computers. Microsoft released the System Update Readiness Tool to resolve certain conditions that could cause installing updates and other software not to work. You do not have to manually run this tool. This tool is offered automatically through Windows Update to computers that have a condition that the tool could resolve.

After you download the System Update Readiness Tool, it runs a onetime scan for inconsistencies that might prevent future servicing operations. This scan typically takes less than 15 minutes to run. However, the tool might take significantly longer on some computers. The Windows Update progress bar is not updated during the scan, and progress seems to stop at 60% complete for some time. This behavior is expected. The scan is still running and you should not cancel the update.

Tool To Clean Up MSCONFIG.exe

Sep 22, 2008

I hope this isn't a repeat of an earlier thread. I did a search but couldn't find anything on it. If it's a duplicate, then move/edit as appropriate. Most of us are familiar with programs that install themselves in the MSconfig.exe file to run everytime Windows starts. Most of us go in and uncheck all that crap except for the essential stuff. That's great, but you often end up with an MSconfig looking like this

For those that want to clean up all that unchecked crap, one can either go into the registry and clean manually. But I found this little program which can do it too. It's simple. It's small. And it's free. Pic above says v1.2 but here is the link to the latest version v1.5 MSConfig Cleanup - optimize your Windows startup Great site you have here.

Windows Mail Tool Bar Within IE7

Mar 23, 2008

Is there any way to place Windows Mail on a tool bar when using IE7? I normally use IE and mail at the same time, and it would be nice if there were a link within IE (similar to the way I used to open Outlook Express in IE6 under XP -- it wasn't really on the tool bar, but it appeared as an icon at the top of the screen). FYI: I am using the Yahoo tool bar.
