Can not get my HP 7400 scanner to work after upgrading to Vista Ultimate 32 bit. Not the hardware - works fine under XP pro using same hardware configuration. Did a clean install, installed motherboard BIOS updates, scanner BIOS updates, Vista updates and the correct driver from HP. The scanner installed and Device Manager says device is working properly. When I try to scan, scanner initializes, starts to scan then locks up. Then can no longer be seen. ASUS M2N-E motherboard with AMD dual core. Other than that Vista works OK with the rest of my system

I just got a new computer with 64-bit Vista Home Premium, and am having some issues with devices. When I connected my Lexmark X6100 printer, Vista recognized it and even took me to the website to download drivers, which I then installed. when I bring up Printers in Control Panel, the Lexmark is not listed. The X6100 also includes a scanner which again Vista found, but it directed me to the same download as for the printer (not surprising). There is an entry for the Lexmark X6100 in my Start Menu, but the only option there is to uninstall the software.
My old computer ran XP Pro and the Lexmark worked perfectly there. There was even an icon in the system tray that appeared at startup. A second issue has arisen with my webcam, a Logitech Quickcam Pro 5000, which Vista also recognized, and there was a prompt which looked as though it was from the Logitech driver asking for a disk which I did not provide, because I didn't think it was necessary. The cam also worked well under XP without any additional software installation.
Vista's Device Manager reports that both devices are working properly, but I am unable to access either of them. I also installed a program called PDF Factory which I used as my default printer on my old computer, and it's working just fine - and it shows up in my Printer panel.
I have a Dell XPS M1330 laptop with Dell TrueMobile 355 Bluetooth. Recently my computer has had problems with detecting any Bluetooth device I've tried to connect. I was wondering if anyone knew what I should do. The only thing I've tried is uninstalling and reinstalling all the drivers

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've encountered a problem in recent days concerning either my graphics card or monitor, which one? Im not sure. It all started a yesterday while playing a game of Counter Strike : Source , I had alt-tabbed ingame and decided to alt-tab back into the game and as i proceeded to do this my computer locked up ... couldn't move mouse or anything. So I proceeded to restart my computer. This is where everything went wrong. My monitor was not showing any image, only a black screen with the Analog/Digital box flashing. So I tried a few things to see what would resolve this problem ... Removed all cords, plugged them in agian ect. Unplugged graphics card then plugged back in agian. Restarted PC numerous times. Reinstalling drivers I'm using a DVI to VGA cable connecting my graphics card to my monitor,
I've also tried plugging another monitor into my graphics card, with no result.Onboard graphics work fine. I don't have another graphics card to test it on ... In my computers devices it says the video driver is not installed correctly or something along those lines? Does anybody have a step by step guide on installing drivers?.....
Few days back, I was installing/uninstalling some programs. I don't know what went wrong, suddenly I found the links in "Computer" are not working. When I open "My Computer" ("Computer" in Vista), all the links like "Device Manager", "Remote Settings" etc are not working. It says for "Device Manager" - "Windows cannot find '%SystemRoot%\system32devmgmt.msc". However, if I run the same command from a DOS window, it exists. This is same for all the other links. My sound icon in the task bar also marked a permanent red cross. If I open Volume Mixer, it says - No audio device found. But I can still hear sound. I don't know what to do.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been getting the IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL BSOD for the last couple weeks. Lately it's down to a couple times per hour. horrible.error Description: Windows detected a new device attached to your computer, but could not find the driver software it needs to make the device usable. Each device manufacturer typically includes driver software of a CD that comes with the device, or as a download from its website. The hardware ID of your device is ACPIATK0110. the "ACPIATK0110" device seems to be my ASUS motherboard (ASUS M2A-VM AM2 AMD 690G Micro ATX AMD Motherboard). It was a home-built computer, so I still have the disc (But it was built properly, I've had it 2 years and this is the first problem). Anywho, I ran the disc to update the drivers... it said the drivers were installed... maybe 45 minutes later, it crashed. I went to the ASUS web site to get the most up-to-date drivers... crashed again within an hour.
So, considering that this happens after an hour or so of use (not during start up), on a system that's been running fine for quite some time... can it be anything other than my motherboard just being fried? I thought about throwing out a reformat just in case... but of course I can find my legit windows XP disc... but no sign of the CD key that makes it worth anything. (The person who built the computer put Vista on it, and I can't get ahold of him for the CD key he used... he wisely didn't give it to me, because I'd have lost it anyway).
I was able to watch movies and such the other day, and now today it's not working. it shows up this message: i'm not too good with computers.

View 6 Replies View RelatedThe Microsoft 6to4 adapter showed in the device manager that it was not working properly. If you look at yours it may show the same. I think I disabled it trying to update it. This was before I found this short sweet article from Microsoft. Does anyone know if I will experience problems in the future when this new technology gets more prevalent? If so, how do I get it back. I followed the instructions that a vista pro gave me to fix this problem and it shows in the reliability monitor that it was installed...but it is not showing int he device manager. Would it be installed but not show on the device manager?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI added a second monitor to the GeForce 7100 GS using a DVI-VGA adapter and for the life of me cannot get it to display anything, the monitor is just in sleep mode. I've got the latest driver, Windows is up to date, checked the cables, tried another adapter, tried everything but, still nothing. The second monitor shows up in the device manager and in the Nvidia control panel. It's enabled and set to extend desktops. It seems the system knows it's there because I can move the mouse over, but cannot see anything. The power light on the second monitor just flashes. I've swapped monitors over, to make sure there's not a problem with the display and it's fine. When I do that, the main monitor is then plugged in to the DVI adapter and then that one goes to sleep. Just seems whichever monitor is plugged in to the DVI-VGA adapter just doesn't want to work........

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm running Home Premium 64 on a Sony Vaio Laptop (CS170F). I'm having a curious problem: Yesterday I plugged into the machine the dongle of my wireless logitech mouse, and for some reason the machine said "Your unknown device is ready to use" (my OS is in spanish, the messages may not be accurately translated). Since then, an annoying message pops every few seconds warning about an "unrecognized USB device", that "didn't work as expected". The best part is this, if I click on the tray icon, sometimes the informative dialog window is emply, an other times shows all the USB ports in the system plus one extra with a "unknown UBS device", even without any device plugged into the system. I've tryed removing the unknown device from the device manager, but it shows up again.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI went to turn it on this morning, I just had a black screen showing the following words;
Press F2 to run
Press F11 to boot menu
Auto detecting PRI Master Atapai CDROM.
It then went to reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key. I went into the BIOS to change the boot order and inserted my Vista home premium 32bit. I then got windows is loading in files. After a short while I got the black start up screen with Microsoft Corporation but after a few seconds it just froze. Moments later it went to a blue screen with white writing part of which said the following; A PROBLEM HAS BEEN DETECTED AND WINDOWS HAS BEEN SHUT DOWN TO PREVENT DAMAGE TI YOUR COMPUTER.
I know this isn't a Graphics Card related thing, but it is the closest I can get.
At the moment I have a Hyundai ImageQuest Q17, and I think it's way to small, that's why I will be doing a student job in the Summer Vacation, what screen do you guys recommend? Here are a few things it should have.
- Good brand, a brand you can trust.
- Widescreen
- 19' or up
- NO reflecting screen
- DVI
- Compatible with Vista
What do you guys recommend?
Recently I have bought a gaming PC, and after a few hours of such
gaming, my monitor goes to sleep, the PC is still running and I can
still be playing my game. just without a monitor!
The only way to get the monitor to work is to restart the PC.
Any ideas what the problem could be? At first I suspected an
overheating Graphics card, but could it be other things? could it be a
RAM problem? what could cause this? Has anyone else had this problem?
I would like to make it very clear that it is not a problem with Vista,
or its power settings, as the computer remains runnings. It is also very
unlikely to be the monitor as I bought it new yesterday.
Been having a monitor issue lately ever since I installed SP2 for Vista 64bit. Sometimes when I turn the PC on the monitor goes into immeadiate sleepode (the power button blinks). I don;t even see the BIOS boot screen....nothing...just black.
I sometimes can hear windows loading but nothing is on the screen. At other times I don't hear Windows loading at all.
I'm thinking it's a BIOS problem or maybe even a MB problem.
I would appreciate some help on this. I've never had this problem before SP2
Weirdness continues....managed to get some sort of display happening only to be told my windows system files are corrupted and that I need to do a repair...which I am doing now after several attempts to get the BIOS to boot from the DVD drive
Well I bit the bullet and restarted the PC...dissapointed to say that it's didn;t work.
It seems like the BIOS isn;t loding any basic video nor is windows.
Sometimes it just doesn;t even seem to be booting into BIOS at all.
I just bought a new Samsung LCD monitor with native resolution of 1920x1080 pixels that provides nice sharp display on my older XP desktop, but a pretty mediocre one as an external monitor on my newer HP notebook. Both systems use nVidia graphics cards, though not identical models. The XP uses GeForce4 MX 4000 card and the Vista notebook came
with GeForce Go 6150 (UMA) chip. I wonder if Vista may have something to do with the poorer display or the different nVidia chip alone. I assumed the Go 6150 was a more capable chip and if anything, I expected even a better performance from it. In both cases the display res is set to 1920x1080 at 60 Hz, but the text display from the notebook looks pretty lousy.
I have a Viewsonic 28" LCD monitor (model vx2835wm) which is pretty good, but not the greatest quality to say the least. It is 1080p supported too.
However, I need something of better quality. My question is the monitor *must* have 1900x1080 resolution specifically to be 1080p supported correct, even if it offers higher resolution options?
Example:
Dell 27" UltraSharp Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor
Higher resolutions, 1920x1200 too, but not 1920x1080 specifically. Would this be a bad idea for Blu-Ray movies (my Sony laptop has a built in Blu Ray player)?
Suddenly my display has a big shadow going to the right on everything. I tried the obvious... turning on and off the monitor and turning off the computer, but still there.
