Cannot Use Windows Mail Due To Lost Password
Mar 19, 2009
I have a general problem with Windows Vista , the following being an example I would like to solve. When opening Windows Mail, or when I try to send mail, Windows Security has asked me for no apparent reason to ?Please verify that both the username and password are correct for your mail server.? I gave it the information hit OK and the original request reappeared and kept reappearing even though I tried every combination of both I could remember with Caps Lock disabled. Either I have a fault or, in my senility, I have forgotten either or both. Either way Windows Mail does not offer me a solution. This is a serious problem as, although I can receive mail, I cannot send.

My daughters forgotten her password on her laptop, i have tried all the usual methods to get in to it but to no avail, in both normal and safe mode, we don't have the XP disc as she bought the laptop from a friend, i have even thought about downloading ophcrack but it seems a bit long winded and a little confusing.

This past Friday, my 12 yr old daughter decided to create a user account for her (without asking) so my 10 yr old son doesn't mess with her "Sims" game. Now MY user account (administrator) password doesn't work and the password she claims she put on her new user account doesn't either, and I did not have a password recovery cd, So I'm locked out out of C: NTK (308 Gb) partition.
THIS IS WHAT I'VE DONE SO FAR!!
I inserted my OEM vista home basic dvd to go thru "recover my computer" and do a system restore but came to find out that my dvd-rom drive is not spinning the disk (took it apart and cleaned the lense with alcohol etc) drive does not make
that buzzing/spinning sound as before when cd/dvd was inserted.
I booted up with D:RECOVERY (10GB) made a bootable USB drive with vista ISO
(a while back I made an ISO image of my OEM vista to make copies in case original got lost or scratched) changed BIOS to boot from "removeable" and I was able to
access "recover my computer" but when I click on system restore, it asks for password, so there goes that idea.
Also tried CMD on the "recover my computer" user interface and typed: (C:> net users) and it only shows "Nano1" which is the admin account for the RECOVERY partition ( stupidly forgot that by using my D:RECOVERY to boot up, it becomes C
so I tried (D: net users) and again it only shows "nano1" also tried (D:Windows system32>net users Administrator active:yes) and it says operation completed sucessfully, after reboot on C:NTK drive there is no admin account available
then tried(D:Windows system32>net users Nano2 /add *) and still nothing.
Downloaded the "offline NT password and registry" followed instructions to make a USB flash drive(formated drive to FAT32) restart computer boot it from usb it starts loading (all the white letters etc) then it just freezes, wont let me do
anything, tried it several times and it always freezes at same spot, so tried the download again, reformat the USB drive and it did the exact same thing, so I decided to make a bootable ISO image of the "offline NT password and registry" had to reformat USB drive back to NTFS and add it the ISO booted from USB and viola! same crap happens ....

My sister-in-law who lives in Australia finally decided to use a PC to keep in touch over the internet. She bought a Laptop using Vista and set it up with one user account around 2 months ago. She is not computer literate and barely knows how to switch it on. It has taken her up till now to switch it on for the second time as she just got broadband installed at her home. The problem we now have is that she has forgotten the password she created and cannot logon to the system. I am not familiar with Windows Vista and was unable to advise her how to logon using the default Administrator account. It seems Vista is much different from XP in this respect. Can anyone advise me if I can access the default admin account on the logon screen or if there is another way to reset the password without talking her through a system restore. She didn't create password reset disks.

A friend of mine has a Vista Home Premium system. He shut down the other night and now he can't log in to windows after boot. Since he has only one password and he never changes it, I'm guessing he knows it. Something has gone awry with his password on his system. He has no other accounts, and the built-in Admin is not enabled, so I'm thinking that his only option is a linux boot and reset password
trick.

I am using ver. 6.0.6000.16386 (vista_rtm.061101-2205).
I have just had a test done and noticed that on my webmail from my provider there are 7 messages in the inbox. But when I download to Windows Mail, only 4 of the 7 actually come in!?
Is there a known bug or something (e.g. problem with the junkfilter?) There is no set rule from this sender and I have suspected since this several weeks now, so I would have noticed if a rule had misplaced them. Is there a logfile or something to look back on or a freeware tool I could download for diagnostics?
This is my last resort, otherwise I'll have to download thunderbird and neglect this unreliable Windows Mail programm.

I bought a new HP desktop running Vista, and used a cable to transfer files, contacts, etc. from my old XP machine. Vista's Windows Mail worked fine for a couple of weeks, then suddenly, for no reason, XP's Outlook Express appeared, and Windows Mail disappeared. Every email, including those that I had deleted in XP going back to January '09 showed up; and now when I send an email, it doesn't show up in the "sent" box. I suspect Windows Mail is running in the background, and my sent emails are being saved there. Where is my Windows Mail, and how to I get it to become my default email again? My desktop icon still says "Windows Mail," but when I open it Outlook Express shows up.

I'm using Windows Mail that is "connected" to my Verizon account. Months ago I created subfolders to archive older emails. I diligently moved them into this folder. I also created another subfolder under the archived folder as well. I've had what I can only call "mysterious" issues where e-mails appear and them moments later, they are gone from my inbox. I thought I had the issue (simplistically) solved by diligently moving new items into the archive folder immediately.
Now (12/26/09) those subfolders are gone. They are not under any other folder in Windoes Mail. What is very odd (and there's quite a lot) is that I did find a lot of them now back in my Inbox but not all. The archived folders I created were under the Inbox folder as a subfolder. I don't think this has anything to do with views.

I've got a problem whereby when I try to access mail using Windows Mail, the programme pops up a window (entitled Windows Security) which asks for my user name and password... but it doesn't accept these when I enter them. Windows Mail had been working OK up until this started to happen yesterday. I have tried clicking tools, then accounts then properties and then re-entering the correct password and user name (ie the password and user name that I use to access the Internet... which, incidentally, still works OK for
Internet access)... but it still doesn't accept them. Everytime I try to send or receive email and enter the password and user name in the Windows Security window ... the window appears again and asks for them again.

I just set up Windows Mail for my wife to use on our new computer. I need the email to be pretty secure. We want it to require a password to see any emails, old or new, is that possible? The way it is now it asks for a password but if you hit cancel it still displays all the old email. This wont work because she has confidential client info on here.

I tried to respond to an extremely old thread, and couldn't because of that. So I am reposting here as others may have the same concern.dannygallo;756753 Wrote: I agree with Danny. One shouldn't have to create a separate user account for Windows just to keep prying eyes from checking out email. That would be analogous to giving each person who lives in the same household a separate room with a lock and key with his/her own phone in it. It's generally accepted courtesy not to eavesdrop on others' conversations.
However, when spouses wish to share their user account and profile, but simply wish to keep their email exchanges a bit more confidential (yes, even from each other), this is no longer possible. It seems very unloving to mandate that two people in a relationship must completely isolate their home computer work spaces with usernames and private passwords, simply because they want to keep their email a bit private. So once again, I agree with Danny. Microsoft has a longstanding history of adding useless bells and whistles to programs, so I commend them for making Windows Mail more simple to use, but in this case, it would have been wonderful had they given the user an option to password protect program usage and entry WITHIN the same user profile

I have never had to use a password to get or send messages. Today I logged on after not being on for a week and now windows security is asking for a logon name and password. What the heck happened? I have been slowly downloading the updates and yes I am behind in downloading them. I am on dialup so it takes a while to download them. Is this some type of new security? I don't want to lose the emails I have by setting up a new account.
