Header Checksum Does Not Match The Computed Checksum

Jul 31, 2005

I was attempting to reformat a Dell Inspiron 8000 with XP Home and have received the following message:

STOP: C0000221 {Bad Image Checksum}

The image olethk32.dll is possibly corrupt. The header checksum does not match the computed checksum.

This PC will not even boot from a Windows 98 boot disk.

BIOS Update Checksum Bad

Aug 25, 2009

Because of many crashes and a Windows messages telling me my BIOS was probably out of date I updated it through the Micro Star International.MSI Live Update Online. During the download process it gives you the option to backup your existing BIOS settings to a floppy. I don't have one so had to bypass. It seemed to worked but when the operation restarted I didn't know what I was supposed to do. In any case it rebooted but on that startup screen it said 'Checksum bad'. When XP loaded I got the 'the system has recovered from a serious error' message again. I thought that I must have done something wrong. I went throught the whole process again to update the BIOS process. XP loaded OK and everything seeme to work. Becasue of the previous problems I thought I had better check and restarted. I tried Pause/Break to freeze the startup screen bit by bit. But I couldn't grab the last line even with multiple attempts. No matter howm many times I tried I just couldn't read the last line,which I think said something about the Checksum' But couldn't make out whether it was bad or good. In previous viewings when it was 'bad' it was slower. Can anyone explain what is happening or how to capture the last line of text.

I have a Dell Dimension 2400 with a US Robotics 56K PCI fax modem, which I've used over a month with no problem. Yesterday I dialed-up a connection to isp.When I tried to update Microsoft Antispyware, it said "could not connect to internet" Spybot S&D said "bad checksum" Could not download e-mail, although it was said it was receiving. "Timed out" when tried to go to web site, messages like "google could not be found", "page cannot be displayed", etc. FoxFire home page blank. System restore to 7-26 seemed to remove problems, but some soon returned. Again system restore to 7-26.

Change Documents & Settings User Name To Match Changed Logon Name

Nov 28, 2006

two new computers a router and networked the home. I have the host computer and my children are each on wireless as clients. Both children can access internet, but only 1 can access printer. I actually figured out the problem that's huge as I'm a network idiot. My son's computer (can't use printer) is using my old computer with MY name on it. I am on the new computer with MY name on it. So when he tries to access the printer it doesn't know where to go. I have windows xp HOME and from what I see I can't change the name on his computer the folder immediately under documents & settings). I followed instructions to copy from one folder to another (ie, Mine to his) using a 3rd administrator account. I could copy any account but mine.
