So I tried to download a demo for the a new game. And it downloaded abnormally quick and so I knew it wasn't the game.I think it may have been an application to actually download the demo, and when I click on it nothing happens and it will not let me delete the file.It says it is being used by another process. Is there a way to just get rid of this file,I don,t think it is a virus but I just cant delete the darn thing.
I read the advice to start in safe mode to delete files that gave the errror message cannot delet file - source file not found. They wouldn't delete in Safe Mode either. I am trying to delete mp3 from my c drive because I have an external disk where I have my music library. I can delete them one at a time without getting the error message but not a bunch of them. Some of them I have been able to delete in a bunch.
I have files in my recycle bin. My recycle bin shows nothing when I open the folder but there is 6 items in the folder. I have tried to delete them through C: ecycler but when I try that I get an error on the bottom of my screen that says The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.
I have a user with a home driectory that has created a folder with mutliple folders within it. I am not sure how far the direcroty goes, but I have counted to at least 26 directories deep. I cannot delete the parent folder in either explorer, or from the prompt. At the prompt I have tried RD foldername and it says, "Folder not empty". Tried del foldername*.* with no error and still cannot delete it.
I am running windows xp sp3. I tried to uninstall Frost Wire, via add or remove programs. I noticed that after it supposedly uninstalled from the a or r file the shortcut was still listed on my desktop. So I searched for F W and found a few references that popped up after my search. When I right clicked on them and tried to delete, that is when I received the above error message
Is the following file to be deleted 16 - DPF: {72C23FEC-3AF9-48FC-9597-241A8EBDFE0A} (InstallShield International Setup Player) - http://ftp.hp.com/pub/automatic/player/isetupML.cab
I am attempting to clean out my temp files on my Windows XP Home. The files and folders that I am addressing are: C:WINDOWSTEMP*.* *.OLD *.CHK *.BAK ~*.* _*.* and MSCREATE.DIRI have managed to clean all but one, which is _*.* When I run the search, I get the result of 144 files. I click on edit, select all, then file, delete. I receive the following error "cannot delete file: Cannot read the source file or disk" (please view screen shot). When I right click, I have no delete option, just "open containing folder, copy, and extract. (please view screen shot). I have run AdAware, Spybot, Ewido, and Avg Free. I also have CCleaner, Easy Clean which I have run. I have also used "Move On Boot" by putting the file path in the MOB window and try to have MOB delete the file. MOB says the file will be removed on the next boot.
after a search, when I click on a file and try to delete it, do I often get a msg. saying: Cannot delete file:Cannot read from the source file or disk If it found it for the search, why can't if read it from the source file or disk
Ive got a file on my desktop I cant Move, or Delete. Ive tried using Other Software, doesnt work,Says filename is Invalid. I cant rename the file, the context menu for the file is different than any other file, removing the Rename, Delete, and everything Useful... I cant open the File, btw was supposed to be a picture... Ive tried that technique you can use to rename a file, by clicking once on it selecting it, then clicking on the filename again, but beeps as if it was invalid. I have also tried safe mode, which also failed...
I cant deleted this file on my desktop. It is an empty file(0 bytes), I tried renaming it and tried deleting it in safe mode. still I get " Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk." I did a search for the file and nothing shows! not even the actual file that is on my desktop. So used "registry cleaner" to see if it will delete it...nope. I tried safe mode again and the same problem. I ran AVG, Norton, Escan, Hijack, all came clean. nothing wrong.
for win xp the remainder of the message is: it is being used by another person or program. close any programs that might be using the file and try again. i'm sure that no other program or person is using the file. is there someway to find who the mysterious program or person is? or is it just some parameter set to yes or on or 1 or true, etc?. is there any way to clear the 'in use' status so the file or folder can actually be cleared?,
i know i can reboot and i will surely be able to delete the file but im looking for an alternative. is there a program that can tell me the related programs/dll whatever that is currently using the file? i get this problem quit often and im tire of having to reboot just to delete that single file/folder without knowing
I've got a video file that just won't go away.In other words, when you right click a file there is usually an option called delete. On this particular file I get a shorter menu of options and non of them are Delete.I also tried to move it to a New Folder figuring I could put it into that and then delete the folder, and it won't go into the folder.
Several actually. Unimportant background info: I'm reinstalling Steam onto my F: drive since my C: drive is running out of space for it.I made the backup (all but the few files I'm having trouble deleting) & uninstalled Steam already.Important background info:So now I have just a few pesky files hanging around in my C:Program FilesSteamSteamApps(email)(multiple sources from here) folder. All of them have the same CRC thing going on. "Cannot delete (Filename): Data error (cyclic redundancy check)"So thinking I might be able to get around it by deleting the files from the command prompt I go start up the little psuedo-DOS window. I don't think it would have a problem deleting the directory or files could I find them, but there's a problem.
i downloaded a bf2142 patch from a offical site and extracted it as usual, it came out as a folder named Battlefield 2142 Update 485 to 941A.app so i downloaded the patch from another site and installed it as usual, worked perfectly, but i cannot delete the left over folder from the first download. here is a screenshot of the error. Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (i have a vista theme, hence the look of vista in the screenshot)i scanned it before extracting and after extracting and it is clean. i dont know what could be the problem
I download a file and its on my desktop now. But the download was cancelled. Now even after removing the file from the download folder, it still says "Cannot Delete File: It is being used..." How do I get rid
I recently cleaned out dated "TrueImage" backup files from my XHDD. Two of them contained a file "095578_data" that could not be deleted. Therefore, the one item backup file still exists, which I would like to eliminate, since it is not needed.
Norton keeps popping up with this file trying to access the 'net: xflplkdxjv.exe. I think it's spyware, but sometimes it has an AOL ISP address, sometimes not. I have deleted the file more than 15 times, permanently deleted from recycle
I once download a file to my desktop and could not delete it since. I didn't really care much, but now it's getting really annoying. I can move the file from folder to folder, but I cannot delete it. When I try to delete it (it's an exe), I get the following message:
Cannot delete battlefield2demo: It is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again. This file is NOT in use, and it is not in a background application either. I can close everything but explorer in the task manager, but still the same problem occurs.
I have a folder created on my desktop that I had used to store bittorrent files. Just the torrent files themselves, not the actual file. I have no need for this folder anymore, but I'm not allowed to delete it. Whenever I try I get an error deleting file message. Under the folders properties it says there are zero bytes in the folder, although there are two hidden files inside the folder. Both files basically dont exist. They're both 0KB. The file names are CAJP5ZM6. and CA6R4JV0. I've tried booting into safe mode, that didnt work. I've tried closing out explorer.exe and trying to delete through the msdos window, didnt work. I've tried the program MoveOnBoot. Didnt work. So basically I've tried everything I could pull up a search on. There has to be a way to get rid of this folder and files, but how do you delete what is essentially already deleted? I've also tried the program dellater. Basically the same as moveonboot. Neither worked. The folder and the 2 files themselves are for some reason read-only files. When I try to change that attribute of course I get that cannot find file error message. I'm stuck, theres no file left. ZERO KB. Just two hidden icons basically. Windows doesnt notice that they're just garbage.
The error I get is: "Are you sure you want to delete these 55 items?" (Yes) "Cannot delete (long filename): the filename you specified is invalid or too long. Specify a different filename." The problem is, the recycle bin appears empty when viewed, and I've tried making sure all hidden files and folders are shown.I've tried ForceDelete (on the weird file/folder/whatever in c: ecycler) and it did not work.I've also tried removing and replacing the registry entry for the recycle bin, it did not correct the problem. Is there a way perhaps to do this in DOS? What would the exact command/location be? I've tried "deltree C: ecycler" and "del C:
I've got Windows XP on my laptop. I recently created a file on my desktop with some Mp3's in it. I moved the Mp3's to my player and deleted the contents. Therefore, the folder remained empty. When I went to delete the folder, the recycle bin would not let me put it in there. I get a message saying: "Cannot delete (name of file): cannot find the specified file. Make sure you specify the correct path or file name".
I'm using Windows XP - the other day I scanned a film negative into Adobe Photoshop, tweaked it then saved it. Yesterday I was tidying up and binned the file because I no longer needed it. Then, doing routine PC 'maintenance' I went to empty my Recycle Bin and couldn't remove this particular file. I get the message: "Cannot delete Dc4: It is being used by another program or person. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again." The filename is actually Scans2. I know of no programs running that might be using this scan. I read some other help sites, downloaded a utility called Mboot but couldn't select the file to drag and drop into Mboot's space. I can't rename it, move it, restore it or delete it ! I give up - I know this isn't a major problem but I worry about viruses and the like - I have Norton Firewall and anti-virus etc. all up to date.
Yesterday, I uninstalled Avast Anti-Virus because my ISP had me install Verizon Internet Security Suite. Then I noticed a file in the Recycle Bin--RB5.tmp and it won't delete from there. What's up with that?
My daughter downloaded a game ( Carmen San diego) awhile back. She decided she didn't want it anymore. She went into add/remove programs and removed it. The shortcut is still on the desktop and when she tries to delete it she gets a messages that it cannot be deleted because it is either write protected or in use with another program.
I got a file in a folder that I can't delete. When I try to do that always got the message that the file is in use. I already restarted the pc but it keeps saying the same thing. The file is not a system file, it's a normal user file.
I'm running W2K Pro on a IBM laptop and I have a movie file I downloaded from Limewire, it was supposed to be a funny cartoon but after trying to open it I just got some noise and a blank WMP screen, so I was going to delete the file, but when I right click and chose delete it won't delete, the propertys also won't display and I get a box that says they are unavailable, I also can't move the file at all, I tried to delete in Safe Mode but that didn't work either, I ran Ad-Aware, Spybot and have the free version of AVG and none of them found any bad stuff installed, the computer works fine but I just want to get rid of this file,
i have a movie file in My Documents, and when i click it and try to delete it, a window comes up that says that it can't be deleted because its being used by another program. THEN, my computer begins running slow and i have to restart my pc. I tried the same procedure in Safe Mode, but the same thing happened. Any advice as to how i can delete this file?
