Sep 10, 2005My new laptop periodically shows this information balloon in the task tray, wanting me to register Windows.
Do I need to do this? I don't remember registering Windows with my previous computers.

Copying Registration Files From Old System To A New One?
May 22, 2006My old XP crashed 2 days ago (All thx to WIndows Auto Update). I tried to use the Windows XP original CD but after repairing, it just stuck at the loading bar with an error message saying that "System32drivers tfs.sys is missing or corrupted".Using the recovery console, I copied the ntfs.sys from the CD to replace the new one, but it didn't solve the problem.
Tired & Frustrated, I decided to install a new one on D:. Now my new XP worked great, but I kinda need all the program that I installed on the old XP back. They're all there on my hard drive with my old XP system. So I guess if there's someway for me to copy all the registration files from my old XP system to my new one, I can run all my programs. I'm really appreciate if anyone can help me with this.
How To Find Registration Key In Original Install CD?
Feb 10, 2010I Should re-install my Windows XP Professional. I have One problem. I bring the windows installation CD in Italy this summer to install also WinXP English version onto my PC I have there. Basicaly I do allways and often backup of everything. I have a backup of the install CD files since I bought my new PC(2006). But No way to find a notepad backup or any backup of the windows regkey who came with my windows Installation CD.
There is anyway to find that key in the files of the installation CD?

Feb 2, 2007I post to be clear about my confusion regarding Windows.It's an original one,purchased through a miidleman and currently installed in this pc.However.The middleman did not give us the lisence code.He himself installed it. However,we are suspecting him to hack my computer for last couple of months and finally stopped the hacking.Can you give me some idea that how can I recover the license code from my computer tself?So that next time when I will format my machine I will enter the same code.See, this is not like I am demanding for a regestration code.And the foolishness from our side was not to contact Windows directly.We were quite illeterate about these things at that

Oct 15, 2008I ran the System Recovery by going into the Program Files and Compaq instead of using the CDs.I thought I would be prompted to insert the CD once the program started but I wasn't. It took about 20 min. to complete. That was a red flag to me because it was so quick. It restarted and brought me to the registration process. Once through that,I was at a screen that basically said I was done and in order to go to my desktop, I should click on the "Finish" button.it booted up again with the 1st CD in the drive, there was a black screen that prompted me to type in whether I wanted a Restore, Full Recovery or Quit.I couldn't type anything in because, my keyboard didn't work. I ejected the CD, shut it down cold again, re-booted it and my keyboard started working again but I ended up back at the registration screen where it froze initially.
